- Found 3 more clips of EDDIE FEIGNER's KING & HIS COURT softball team. (I posted 2 previous clips earlier this year).
8-3-1987 at Schautz Stadium, Dunmore
7-2-1988 unknown location
7-22-1992 also at Schautz Stadium.
I met him in 2004 at my family’s bar in metro Detroit. He was in a wheel chair and wasn’t doing very well. I recognized him almost instantly! He and his wife were super nice autographed his book for me and took the time to speak with me for over an hour. As they were leaving his wife came over and hugged me and said I made his day because nobody really recognizes him anymore. R.I.P King!
Thx for the feedback, Ken. Got a lot of great comments on this post. My TV station seemed to cover his appearances here in the Scranton, PA area a lot.
@@tonyingargiola1635 the second field is baumgartner baseball field in tunkhannock pa....i was there when that was recorded awesome to see it after all these years,,
@@christopherisenberg7932 Thx for info & feedback. I knew most of the clips are from Shautz Stadium here in Dunmore, PA. I didn't know the others, it wasn't written on the tape log. Thx again.
Ken
Thanks.. what a great comment. Quality time with the King ..
Was lucky enough to see them perform in Enid, Oklahoma a couple of times. They were nothing short of total class act. Exceptional athletes without the ego that some have when they reach that level.
I was the promoter for his 10,000th game at Hall of Fame Stadium in OKC. He put on a hell of a show and was inducted into the ASA Hall of Fame that night. I have seen them many times and Eddie always made it a point to come visit with me. I even had dinner with him and his wife the night after they survived the the massive Moore tornado. There will never be another barnstormer like him.
Did he live here ?
I was fortunate to have played against Mr Feigner in the mid 80's and I'm very proud to be one of his many strikeout victims. He struck me out looking with his famous behind the back fastball down the middle of the plate!! Lol
MY DAD TOOK ME TO SEE THEM IN THE LATE 80S , DAD PASSED AWAY OVER A YEAR AGO HOW SWWET THAT MEMORY IS TO ME NOW I MISS YOU, DADDY
Thx for the feedback, Marc. When I was digging through our archives, I pulled these videos since it was a big topic in the Dunmore, PA FaceBook group. Glad more people are enjoying these.
Marc, This sounds like a great memory, my friend.
My dad, Bob C beat the King and his court with a team from VA-43 at Oceana Naval Station around 1967. I watched. My dad was the pitcher and Eddie was very complimentary of my dad's stuff, great fastball, good curve and a wicked knuckler. I had the bruises to prove it.
Growing up, my Dad told me about his encounter with “The King”. My Dad played AA baseball when he was younger and when he faced him he said all he heard was the ball hitting the catchers glove 3 times in a row.
That's a really nice memory for your Dad. They came to our town in the 60's and all the best players from neighboring towns played. Eddie threw a perfect game.
My Dad pitched against him in Cenrtal, NY, and they became good friends. My Dad beat him once and was always proud of that accomplishment. In his prime, Eddie was a phenomenal softball pitcher and always put on a great show wherever he went. I'm so glad this video has been made available.
I was lucky enough to see them in New York back in the 70s. It was clear that they were incredible athletes despite all the goofing around. It was a memorable performance.
I had the privilege of playing against the King and his court several years ago when they came to Cherokee, NC. I had a great time just getting to be on the same field with those guys. Thanks for the memories Eddie!
I bet that was fun
It sure was. That was probably the best highlight of my fastpitch softball days.
@@michaelyoungdeer8539 could you see them playing the United States women's Olympic team with Jeanine Fitch and Crystl Bustos that would be so much fun to watch I bet Crystl would hit a home run off of him and then Eddie would strike her out after that.
That would definitely be a good show!
Not a single phone in sight, just living in the moment.
Hehe.
Wow this is so deep
Saw in person many times at sportsman park in schenectady ny. My father started the softball league there and Eddie came every year in the 70s
I saw them as a kid, unreal ability. Behind the back from 2nd base was awesome.
This brings back some great memories of seeing the King and his Court at the Haig Bowl baseball field in St Catharines, Ontario in the early to mid-60’s. A full stadium and I was amazed at what I saw…and have never seen anything like it before or since. A totally class act who stayed behind, signed autographs and spoke to every person who crowded around. RIP King. 🙏🙏
Eddie was a legendary figure in Central Mass. Saw him in a softball game played while water skiing!
My Dad played against the King and his Court back in 1968. Birkenfeld Air Force Station, Germany. Great fun. Those guys were amazing.
I had the great pleasure of playing against the king and his court, on two seperate times, and both were double headers in 1973 and 1974. When I was doing prison time in Missouri, at the church farm minimum security outlet. We even won the first game of the first series. They were all a great bunch of guy's, I will never forget. Even at my age now of 72.
Great story Pit Bull! Thx for sharing. I can't believe how much response I'm getting from this video when they played here in the Scranton PA area !!! They certainly left great memories in every community they were in.
Thanks. But hey.Eddie and his court were truly amazing! The things he could do with a softball.....I was one lucky man to meet him and his group, that all fit into a van. A true part of american history, Jesse.
They came to town and played our legion team which was ranked 3 in country.i played ss and there as good as adv.lot of fun
I saw the Eddie Feigner's four man team in mid 50's in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Eddie pitched from second base.
I watched the team of Eddie many times. It was just a great get-together with supremely talented athletes. And Eddie could struck out guys blindfolded while pitching at second base. I miss it dearly.
I remember my grandfather taking me to see these guys in Michigan. Good memories.
Same here, but it was my dad in MI. Great memories
Got to watch them play in Parry Sound it was the best team and games ever seen
I saw him in the early 80s and was blown away. Pitcher, catcher 1st baseman and an outfielder. That was it vs the Baltimore County Firefighters. The King and his Court shut them out. lol
This was awesome to see. I got to see them once in my home town. Tokk on my hometown mens team.gawd what a show they put on.and the old man pitching the way he did.he was totally awesome to see.and his cornball antics of his teammates was great also.they were awesome showmen.awesomen awesome show and comedy act.and he was on hell of a patcher. Blind folded and could still throw a damn strike
Great bunch of guys. I had the opportunity to play on their team when they came to Maui, Hawaii
I saw this man strike out the side in an exhibition against then American Legion players - from SECOND BASE........JEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZ
When I was growing up they were legendary. So, my dad took me to see them. He pitched from 2nd base and still got guys out. His opponents were an all-star team of players from the surrounding slow-pitch leagues. There were no easy outs. The King just mowed 'em down. By the time of this footage he was way past his prime. Still fun, though.
I had the pleasure of playing against EF and his Court in the late 60's in Indianapolis, he struck me out blindfolded. I was our catcher so after the game he asked me if I wanted to catch a couple of his pitches, of course I did! He threw me a fast ball that if it hadn't gone straight into my mitt would have crushed my face! He told me he was going to throw me a curve, said it would break a lot but to keep my mitt still, it will come back to you, and it did, must have had about 3 feet of break to it! That was a fun experience.
Saw them in eagle river Wisconsin with my brother they were great
I was lucky enough to see them in Powhatan County VA in the early/mid 1990's. They put on a great show!
I had the extreme honor of meeting him and hitting in his last hr derby at the Field of Dreams..he was in a wheelchair but signed autographs and spoke to everyone..Class all the way!
I saw him back east on Long Island in the 60s, then later in 70s. He was a fun trickster, with pitching blindfold from second base.
Sorry to report ... we beat these guys in Roosevelt Roads Puerto Rico. My pitcher was a phenomenal hurler. I believe it was 77 or 78. It was the most fun I had ever had as a fast pitch softball catcher. I apologize in advance that I cannot recall my pitcher's name. We both ended up in the ranks of the "Broken Blue"
i remember all the small towns and bigger ones i guess in 70's 80.' every bar had a team and before cable tv, cell phones.... slow pitch 3 nights a week, weekend tournaments, 4 th july and so on. i believe all gone now done died out.
They came to play my dad's (Wayne Owens) softball team in Massachusetts. They are amazing players and sportsmen. I enjoyed watching them immensely.
Saw them in 1971 community field Burlington iowa .fantastic
We played them at Carolina Pines in Raleigh around this time. Fun was had by all....they won.
The globe trotters of softball !!!
That's a great analogy !! Thx for watching and the kind feedback.
I saw these guys around 1960-61. It was astonishing..!
WOW! I'm glad I came across this video. It brings back memories. I saw Eddie Feigner pitch in the early 60's in Lowell, MA. He made such an impression on me that I gave a speech about him in my Junior High School Speech Class and started practicing how to pitch like Eddie. I would practice all the time and even set up a place on my front porch where I could pitch into pillows. Of course, I never came close to his greatness, but I did end up pitching for some local teams and even for a team in the Army some years later. Eddie Feigner was the Best! And very inspirational!
The Harlem Globetrotters of Softball...
Is in the bracket for 50th greatest athlete,s and he deserve to be there !!!!!
Eddie Feigner was a legend, I once owned a Macgregor glove that was an Eddie Feigner model, Great video.
Saw him in 1958 in mount Vernon ny he was at his prime him and 3 other guy played a game against 9 men.
That game was probably played at Mt. Vernon Memorial Stadium. The entire plot of land will eventually be devoted to a new athletic complex. Sadly, it was decided that the original grandstand was not to be part of the redesign and was demolished. If you ask me, that was a very unwise decision.
I saw them in Tallmadge Oh. back in the 70's. Unbelievable!
The second game was at the Tunkhannock PA Teener League Field.
That big guy was a masher. He hit one farther than I thought possible. Imagine being the guy whose job it is to mash a homer for the fans every game - and being good enough to deliver. Even if the opponent purposely “tee’s one up” for him it’s still impressive.
Wow looks like so much fun, Man the 80's were such a great time.
Saw The King back in the 80's, up here in Simcoe, Ontario.
He walked one of our team mates unpurpose. He said go ahead & take a lead off. My buddy had about a 6 inch lead off & got picked off.
Back before everyone sat at home with their eyes locked on their phone. Went out looking for good entertainment.
Saw him in Windsor I think late 60's, once playing Civic League all-stars and once playing a good Senior A team. One of them was an evening game they did after playing a double header in Michigan earlier that day. I remember him with two balls in one hand, throwing them at the same time and going to two different players.
I saw him pitch in St. Paul in 1958 AMAZING
My dad used to talk about these guys all the time. We never got to go see them though. Idk if they never came to our town or if they quit/retired before we could. But being a kid in the 80s I def heard about them alot. Wish we'd have gone.
Played against The King in 1967 at Camp Lejeune with 8th Engineers. They were awesome.
I played fast pitch softball back in the 60s in Los Angeles and we had a pitcher that you could not hit. All we needed was pitcher, catcher, shortstop, 2nd base and 1st base. No outfielder required because the ball never went out of the infield. His rise ball would start at your knees and finish at your eyes. Curve would start at your hips and end up outside. Amazing pitcher.
Physically impossible
@@bendavison7750 WRONG, you should have seen him pitch serious.
Great stuff. My Pop took me to see him
Fucking legends all the way around! Wish I could buy these guys a beer
I saw Eddie and company at Dowdy Field in Hollywood Florida in the mid 60s.
They were so good
King of the hill did sn episode of this.one of my favorite episodes
Eddie and his court were mentioned on the Dodger broadcast tonight. 9/23/2020
Watched them in albany Georgia around 90? The Albany Polecats were there at the time….didnt take ‘em long to leave 😮
Seen these guys in the 80s in Hurontown,MI still remember 4 guys whooped a full team
Lol were they 5 years old?
They used to come to our school (Private High School in Southern California) and our college team was pretty good but the King and his court tore us apart with only 4 players!!! In fact we changed our defense outfield players because of his success and we won several CIF Championships because of the change!
What was that defensive switch look like?
Got to watch the king in south korea in 1988, that center fielder was amazing.
Got to see them in the 80s.
The man in his prime was unhitatable
Enjoyed them as a kid in Quincy Illinois.
I PLAYED IN A ALL STAR TEAM AGANIST HIM I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT
How did y'all do against him
Seen them play in Michigan.
I miss the good ole days.
Best pitcher ever and this includes MLB.....
heck yeah.. saw them play in California in the late 80's or early 90's wishing selfies were a thing back cause a pict with the legend would have been great.. still hold the memories until I can no longer remember past events...
My brother got a hit off Eddie. He was the best!
with those light tracers It felt like the old mushroom days again.
great video ....... pretty amazing how dead those balls sound when they hit them ........... kapok centers maybe ......... cork center or dudley balls ....yikes ....they were like giant golf balls ..........hen u hit em................... the king and his court were amazing ....
I came here from the ace and his Jules EP from king of the hill
I PLAYED AGAINST THEM IN 1972 AT FT. DIX NEW JERSEY
Man, you should show him when he was serious, no tricks. Virtually unhittable from 60 ft 6". Incredible ball movement and speed.
Fast pitch semi-pro and pro softball was big in the NW from the 40's to the 80's. My family and friends were in this heavily, I watched this guy KILL the Totems, Salmons, Olys, Pay 'n Pak- all the national champ teams my dad, uncle, and my dad's cousin played for.
When these pro teams would get the guy than ran his mouth and piss him off he'd set them straight- left hand or right hand batter, he'd throw hard with movement and they'd bail on three straight strikes.
But I don't recall him EVER hitting a batter, he'd just make them bail. And smile a bit.
I remember the beer ad for T.V.
I saw them in Des Moines in the 70's and the King was great, but the play I will always remember was when a batter hit a pitch and the ball bounced once and came to rest at the 400 ft marker on the outfield fence. The shortstop took off running, picked up the ball and threw a perfect strike to the catcher who tagged the runner out trying to score. The shortstop trotted back and the King motioned for him to go back to the wall and got him a ball which he then threw back toward home plate. However the ball was over the backstop and in fact over the press box at the top of the stadium. He threw the ball out of the ball park, which is a triple-A ball park for the Chicago Cubs. Never saw a person with an arm like that.
Could you imagine a match up the United States Olympic softball team versus them think how of a great game it would be with Jeannie Fitch pitching and Crystl Bustos batting
Saw them in Saint John, NB on August 16, 1977: the same day Elvis Presley died.
I'm here because of the Steve Dahl Podcast :)
Thx for watching Dan. As previously stated, I post stuff on my facebook AND then put them here on my youtube so people like my brother not on facebook can see my videos. I posted this clip since Eddie was in my hometown near Scranton, PA many times. and it was a huge conversation on the local facebook group. And I dug out these videos here at the TV station I work for, and got a lot of positive feedback. Thx again.PS: I don't know of this Steve Dahl podcast, but thanks again for watching this video that is rotting in our basement along with the rest of the history of NorthEastern PA !!
They came through Covington Tennessee, can’t remember the year but probably the early 80’s. And I actually tried to bat. Trust me he’s faster that he looked in video. I struck out :(
He's probably throwing in the low 60's. That's from 45 ft away which equates to like 100mph from 62ft.
eddie said george elmer from philly ( fishtown ) was the best pitcher he seen this side of the mississippi
Kid at 2:07. Bored out of his mind....how could he not be?
These guys are real. They are from my home town.
Didn’t they make a King of the Hill episode about these guys?
This guy put on
I saw Eddie and his group several times in the early 80's playing a local group of police and fire fighters. Here's the thing: There were quite a few men's fast pitch softball leagues back then and many guys who could throw as hard and with as easily as much movement as Eddie. Eddie and his boys would usually play against guys who never faced fast pitch softball pitching from 45 feet (a little league field essentially). The ball comes at you very fast typically rising as it crosses the plate. They would go up there with their high school uppercut swings and strike themselves out. The major league hitters he faced could have easily adjusted to it if given some time and practice. With that being said, Eddie was good at what he did and a carnival-like showman.
And his feet never leave the ground real fastpitch
They say in Eddie's prime he was unhittable.
Heard lota old timers tell stories about them.
My Dad umpired a few of his games in the 70s
The greatest ambassador ever for the game of fast pitch softball. However he never won a game in an ASA national tournament nor was he good enough to. Take him for what he was: A great showman, a very good fast pitch pitcher, and a tremendous asset for fast pitch softball. I saw him come to the town I lived in when I was around 20. Unfortunately for Eddie he was lined up to play against a team that had recently won a National ASA tournament and the World ASA tournament. The King and his Court were behind 21 to 0 after 3 innings and packed their bags and left. At any given time he was never one of the top 25 fast pitch pitchers in the world. He doesn't compare in talent to a Ty Stofflet, Peter Meredith, Herb Dudley, Peter Finn, or Owen "The Fog" Walford. Those pitchers were busy winning national and world titles while Feigner was wowing small town audiences with his bagful of tricks. Don't get me wrong--not saying one bad thing about the man who was so good for the game--but he was not what people make him out to be.
Not saying one bad thing but you rip the man to shreds with your comments. You fail to mention what decade you saw him in either only said you were 20 at the time. If you saw him in the 80s he was in his 60s or older by then. The man struck out 6 MLB players in a row the first 4 and last one being Hall of Famers. Show some respect.
Stofflet was born in 41, Meredith 60 , Finn 61, Walford 49, Dudley is the only one his age being born in 19. Eddie was born in 25. So all your other comparisons are meaningless seeing as he was in his late 20s early 30s when most of them were born or in diapers.
@@revisionriot I am not ripping him to shreds. I stated he was the greatest ambassador ever for the game of fast pitch softball. That is a tremendous compliment. There were just better fast pitch pitchers out there that were more interested in winning ASA National Championships. Feigner never won a game in an ASA National Open Men's Championship. Sorry but it is a fact.
In what decade?
@@jimstick690 Its hard to win in a league when you don't play in that league.
I remember my Dad telling me That Gene Nynhise and some boys bk in the day. Beat the king and his court..
carol and sal could have played with them carol catcher sal pitching
😳
Pre-internet entertainment...
This team looks like the Harlem Globe trotters off softball
They were.
