    This kid is going to remember all of these tips that he's learning from the ol' man in this project and hopefully will serve him later on down the road. Its great to see knowledge and wisdom being passed down from older generations to the new.

      I just got passed down a 77 and im 22 years old...i love working on bikes, but the more i watch this, the more I feel like Im in over my head 😅 and tho im younger ive been tinkering on cars and bikes for several years. This motor is just so wild. Either way ill never get rid of it since it was passed down but im sure this will be a difficult build. Been sitting outside near lake elsinore for 14 years. Only 8k original miles tho-bike is complete. I wonder how much shit im gonna have to go through to get it purring again.

    this guy is really cool for helping these kids out, these motors are litterally going to be better than the day they rolled of the assembly line. Easily the best ironhead mechanic ive ever seen on here and i just spent a year rebuilding a 1960 XLH chopper. Kids fucking sandles gotta go though

Thankfully, as does your friend, I also have a yoda-like figure who stands above me with an air of a slightly annoyed, slightly amused schoolteacher. More ironhead videos please!

    Tatro, I appreciate the work you do. I am currently tearing a 75' down and wanted to know if you would share your process of tanking the bottom end? You mentioned solvent and everything looks great after coming out. Will hot tanking destroy the gasket where bottom end halves meet? Just trying to get an idea of my options as my crank and rod bearings are nice and tight but quite a bit of sludge built up from sitting so long.

    • @TatroMachine
      @TatroMachine  5 років тому +4

      no gasket, just sealer on the case halfs. take it apart all the way and reseal it. no leaks or a leaky pig, your choice.

    I have a question. I have a 2010 Heritage 96 with stock compensator. It needs to be replaced due to bad design by HD. Imagine that. The engine has a nice set of cams and runs pretty strong. Would you upgrade to Screaming Eagle as HD sells or go with a Baker? Some say Baker is the way to go. You think it is better than SE?

      Thank you for responding, the problem I’m having is when I got bike the charging system wasn’t charging so I chased is back to the stator and clutch basket! The magnets were completely dust packed in around and behind stator so I got new stator and clutch basket with new magnets! I hate that design! I tried to get the new style basket with magnets incased in the basket! But they were back ordered! Anyway when I slide the new basket on shaft it don’t slide on far enough to get my spacer washer on shaft! I can only get locking clip on! There’s a small build out below that shaft On the front plate of transmission gears and my magnets are rubbing that!! I can see wear marks from the old basket on that build out! It’s like 5/8 inch round and sticks out like a half inch? Does that hold one of the shafts inside that the gears ride on? Anyway any advise is greatly appreciated! And if you tell me how to fix it I will wire you $100 on my word! I hope you don’t think I’m an idiot lol… I can’t find anyone here in Maine that knows a thing about ironhead motors! The dealers don’t lol! I tried to buy a pressure plate tool at LA Harley in Lewiston, maine. and the guy says I don’t think we even have one in the shop!!! I’m like really you don’t do clutch work here lol… anyway I’m Neil and appreciate your time! I hope you understood any of that????

      it is best to contact me by email for more detailed help on your project. aftermarket parts don't fit correctly lots of times and dealing with it is just part of the job. i would need pictures to see what you think you are hitting against.
      start by checking how every part fits together with each other and than move on to the assembly.

      You need to get the special tool.to.put the clutch back.to.gether the 2 fingers go behind the clutch basket then you turn thr main bolt in to hold presure in the
      Center of the clutch without this tool you won't be able to reassemble it clutch with.out it i have tried .imposable your hands have to be free to start starting the nuts

    Tattoo I have a 1972 Electra Glide with a stock Shovel head in it it’s got 39,000 miles on the odometer. It’s bent both exhaust valve rods at different times both times when it was idling and the it backfired and quit tuning an old school shop told me the top end needs rebuilt it ran like a top until the valves bent what would you look at to fix this problem. I appreciate your help on in Disabilty so I’m not rich.

    • @TatroMachine

      who cares, just take it apart and see what is wrong.
