    Thanks for this, been struggling to find a video that shows how many little parts there is between the casings as I've got a box of parts that was a 75 XLCH with no idea what little washers and bearings are missing 🤣

    Nice work. Most Ironheads need done what you have shown. I know my '74 XLH does.

    Did you shave down the upper or bottom retainers or did both? Asking because i didn't know about this and i got a hole through the one of my rockers boxes.

    Nice job! What seals did you use for your valve stems? I am rebuilding my ironhead and would like to do the same. But have not been able to find seals.

      I actually wouldn't suggest doing it, I can't remember where I got them but I know they did fit properly and had plenty of clearance from the springs yet somehow they got completely torn up, I noticed when changing some gaskets a year later, I removed them and don't run them anymore

      @@hardrowcustoms6705do you think it wash the retainer or the springs?

    Nice. I have a 74 xlch that I rebuilt though the machine and case work were done by an local shop. Runs great however I would like to put stem seals on it. How much did you have to machine the retainers down? Or maybe a final measurement on the retainer itself. I ask that because I am running Manley Ti retainers and they may be a different size than stock. Thank you.

    • @hardrowcustoms6705
      @hardrowcustoms6705  4 роки тому +1

      I machined the the shoulder off completely, basically turned it into a washer

      @@hardrowcustoms6705 Thanks. I'll have to check the clearance, I'm running Andrews R5's with .445 lift. Not too much over stock but enough to check.

    Great video ! I have two 1976 ironheads I have to rebuild. How did the powder coating of the heads and jugs hold up? Any particular brand that is used for that high heat area? Thanks

    • @hardrowcustoms6705
      @hardrowcustoms6705  2 роки тому +1

      I'm not sure of the brand, it was something the company i work for uses on specific parts, i dont think its any more heat resistant than the baking temps for powder paint, I could be wrong but it held up really great on all parts of the motor

    I wished you lived nearby and could rebuild my old 73 iron head. .. been sitting up 10 yrs.. last time rode it sounded like tin pans rattling and huge cloud of white smoke.. barely got home on it. ..... heads sounded horrible for the 1 or 2 years rode it.... sounded like hammers ping pang pong when picking up speed......piston would close the gap on rear Harley plug.. so I used split v's worked fine...only has 10k miles... how much would you charge old fellow like me to get her up to par like this video? powder coating or just original rough black paint on halves only none on covers? enjoyed your work and special care to make it 200% right!!!

    Did you use fuel or water to check for leaks on the lapped valves?

    • @hardrowcustoms6705
      @hardrowcustoms6705  4 роки тому +1

      Both, in the video its water but I also checked later with gasoline

    I have a ‘75 XLH 1000cc I need rebuilt too! What does that cost? Probably too much if I have to ask....

    • @hardrowcustoms6705

      It all depends how far you want to go, it also cost alot more to have it done than to do it yourself

      There's 7 peices to it,
      3/4-16 Threaded rod 4-1/4"L
      3/4-16 threaded sleeve 2"L 1"OD
      Another threaded sleeve 1"L ...
      1-1/2 OD two flats cut on oposite sides threaded towards the center for the two handles (basicaly a thru threaded T-handle) 1/4-20 for the two handle threads
      And two spacer/sleeves one is 2-1/2"L the other is 1-1/2"L both have an 1 inch +.01 clearance ID and 1.5 OD, a bit difficult to type it all
