Pretty cool project but when you use a dip pen you don't actually dip the WHOLE nib into the ink you only dip the tip into it, and then you also wipe it on the edge of the bottle. This will keep your pen from release huge ink blots on your paper. Additionally, you don't hold a dip pen the same as a pen or pencil. You need to have your paper up at a slant about 25 degrees will work... that's why monks used to work on desks that were almost upright. It ads in the ink flowing.

You should also heat the nib with a lighter before first use to burn away the chemical treatment used on it during manufacturing. This will provide you with good ink flow

I work booths at renaissance fairs and this would be so amazing to use to fill out receipts instead of a ball point pen. Now I need to make 1 that has a stylist for signing on a phone or tablet. THANK YOU!!!
Great project! I did something similar for a birthday party- I just got the dollar store mini pen pack and little ones put glue on and stuck them into a hollowed out feather... yours is much fancier!
To make parchment you can also just soak regular paper in coffee. Just make a batch of dark cofee an dip the paper in, then let it dry, or dry it with a hairdryer. Amazing DIY 😉
Ok, first of all: I loooove love love your videos! You are so incredibly creative and awesome! While watching this video I thought some labels for color changing ink would be awesome. Maybe with some differently colored ink smudges on. Would be a nice idea for your printables videos I think. :)

Very Nice! However, I've watched the movies, and the quills never had all that decoration on them. When I was a little girl, we used to write with dip pens, and we had ink wells. Not too different from the quill pens, except quill pens just had to be cut on an angle to be able to write with them. No nibs required. Happy crafting to, sir! ~Janet in Canada

What I did was hot glue two feathers together to make a really long one and I stuck the ink and ballpoint end of a regular pen. I correct my student's exams with that. Could you make Rita Skeeter's quill??

Try pulling the nib out and inserting a new nib in it's place.

There are ways of cutting the feather to create a proper nib that holds ink, its not too difficult. But this is a very pretty way to do it!
I have actually made one like that - but I wanted to do something different and wanted the DIY to have a little more to it.
I have also tried to do something like this. But the feathers I got were kinda soft or something. Didn't work.
