This was a very special experience for me and now I'm excited to start cooking more! Now, keep it cute in the comments, this is my first time making rice period 😂. But I had so much fun and I'm excited to do more! Let me know below what I should make next!

so proud of you!!!! you did great. I would love to hear more from you about your dynamic growing up and learning to cook- my parents are both immigrants so its like i started walking then BOOM had my tail in the kitchen. Im interested to learn about that aspect of your life if you feel like sharing of course. Be blessed!
I actually talked about this on Instagram last year and we had such an AMAZING conversation about the topic. I grew up having really negative thoughts around cooking. it was never really my thing and a lot of African women make fun of you or try to embarrass you for simply not being interested. Often it’s implied you’re less of a person for not doing it and that to me says a lot more about how they view their self worth than it does anything else. I eventually grew up realizing that my womanhood, or even personhood for that matter, does not come from knowing how to chop vegetables or make spaghetti and that I am allowed to be skilled at other things too! To this day I still reject cooking, not because I can’t (I can) but it’s simply not an undertaking I am willing to fit into my already chaotic day to day lifestyle and quite honestly it works for my fiancé and me. I will try everything once, but now at 35, I am still very happy to spend most of my time cooking sometimes for content, but NOT necessity 🤗🤎
@@LavishlyJackie I love that! Thank you for sharing. It took a while after getting married to get out of this “maid-wife” mindset I feel like a lot of African women are groomed to be.. my husband was like girl you are not my waitress!!!
I want to teach my daughters to cook and I hope they enjoy the process of creating something and then sharing it with people you love but I definitely don’t wanna place pressure on them as if they are the house girl and they are less of a woman if they don’t like to do it. But we’ve also been clear that we hope the same for our sons-they need to know how to cook and serve their family too. I’ve never seen my dad serve my mom a plate or anything, and my husband serves me all the time and I didn’t realize until writing this how strange that was for me to allow him to do that bc in my mind it should only be me. But really we should be serving each other in food and all other capacities of life.
very very well said 🥂
Your videos never disappoint! I absolutely love this❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@LavishlyJackie @Lavishly Jackie I'm an only daughter of a strong Africam father who had the wife-maid mentality. Due to that, I have a love-hate relationship with the kitchen. I am so blessed and honored to be married to a Nigerian who doesn't have that mentality and understand that cooking is not my forte. I can cook, just the basics but I'm not the type to go all out for an elaborate recipe. He cooks most of the 'delicacies' and never gives a fuss when there is not cooked food at home. Through him being so patient and understanding, I am growing to tolerate being in the kitchen. The love is not fully there yet, as I am a work in progress. Mother hood is also a motivation for me to make wholesome and healthy meals for my son, which as you said not out of necessity, but out Love. Love this content Jackie. God bless u
I love how Auntie Bola answered all your questions with love and grace, and wasn’t condescending, expecting you to know certain things. Such a genuine soul♥️♥️
that’s how it’s supposed to be! 🤎
I love Auntie’s like this. Teaching kindly by showing without putting you down. 🇳🇬🇺🇸
me too! I’ve never been insulted into learning something. Especially since I already don’t like cooking, once someone starts being demeaning or condescending about it I instantly lose interest. I really do not have to do it, so we might as well both enjoy it!
@@LavishlyJackie I understand 100%. I think this is something that has to change in the Nigerian community. I literally run away from women born in Nigeria because of the expectations they have for 1st generation Americans.
pay them no mind 🤗 people who really love and respect you won’t talk down to you or belittle. those who would, do not even matter 💕
@@adebeautybox don't go there Sis. The expectations are sky high
I loved this espeically on this channel because a lot of people don't class African food as luxurious or lavish and I grew up on the food from my African heritage and as much take out I can eat, the one thing that I will always go back to is Mauritian food, the food from my people. I loved this! I would love to see you cooking more Nigerian food!
I LOVE that you are just letting her talk and not trying to “translate” or repeat what she’s saying to be more “clear.”
As a Black American Thank you for sharing this! I’ve been wanting to try this for years and some of the products I’ve seen in other videos aren’t accessible to me. But everything here is within reach. I’m so excited to make it comfortable for my home!
I love to hear this 🤗 thank you for watching. I hope you enjoy my aunts recipe🤎
Okay Im an African American and made jollof rice this week. I see where I went wrong. It turned out good but there’s always room for improvement. Thank you Auntie
As a Nigerian girl, I know there’s always pressure for you know how to cook all of traditional foods. Your Aunty was so nice and patient. Loved seeing this content and please keep it coming as a series with auntie bola 🇳🇬 ❤
Jackie: I like the chemicals, it's like extra seasoning
Auntie Bola:🙂
Loved this!
OMG Jackieeee make this a series!!! You and Aunty Bola or even other guests/family members teaching you to make Nigerian foods !! This was so fun to watch
Agreed
Yes please! This was awesome!
I love aunty Bola. All Nigeria mummy's complained about all the chemicals in the fruit. When she mentioned that, I felt right at home 😂❤️😘
Your Aunt Bola is Gorgeous, her age is timeless and the patience and grace that she shares with you is so amazing. The both of you have such a positive energy together. Thank you for sharing ❤
This looks so good. Your auntie is so generous for sharing her recipe.
thank you 🥰
Smiling at Jackie being amazed Auntie Bola uses her hands.Jackie hands are the best tools in the kitchen.
YEP!
But how do you go a whole 30 year life and don't cook...?
Love you in the kitchen with Aunt Bola. We don't drag our Sisters, but never using a blender was HILARIOUS. Love ya
to be fair it’s really quite easy to avoid if you don’t cook or eat a ton of blended foods! thank you for watching 🥰
I love this! So much tradition and culture is passed down through learning how to cook. It creates memories and you hear family stories. Love that Jackie had this moment with Auntie Bola. Also, I feel like all West Africans have at least ONE aunty Bola or Shola (I have one of each 😂). That’s actually a requirement 😂❤
Sierra Leonean here. I have an Aunty Shola. ☺️
“If it’s not good, just don’t tell anybody” 😂 Aunty Bola coming through with the ☕️
"I'm scared of scratching my pot"....IKTR girl! Jackie is MY mood hunni!!
I love when you add your family in your videos and as an OG fan seeing you actually cook is crazy but in a good way 😂😂
I love that the base of the jollof is similar to how we make Epis(Haitian green seasoning) it’s the same but with green pepper, scotch bonnet(I be using 2 cause we love spice okay) and fresh cilantro/water cress, scallion and Maggi cubes.
I love this Auntie Bola and Auntie Jackie❤️
When you both were both the describing the taste, I was like GOU! Li pa gen gou😂😂😂… That’s the word we use for like the good taste or if it’s missing a taste lol
You’re saving our pockets Jackie! Lol I went to college in Philly, so my Nigerian and Ghanian friends introduced me to their cuisine. I fell in love. I’m in VA now, so African restaurants are very few and expensive even when the economy is good. $40 for stew fish, jollof, plantains and a drink. But oh so worth it! Now I can make myself a big pot of jollof like I’ve always dreamed. 😍😩 Thank you!
There are great UA-cam channels that can show you how to make stew or whatever else. $40 is robbery for that! My husband is Nigerian and a lot of their dishes have the same base.
There’s a bomb Ghanaian restaurant in Norfolk! It’s called yendidi, I went to Hampton and I’m Ghanaian and it taste just like my mom’s cooking
D.C. metro is juuuusttt starting to finally have more African restaurants that are NOT Ethiopian/Eritean (I love that cuisine too but ijs) like Nigerian, Ghanaian, Senegalese, Ivorian etc etc etc and i'm so happy about it. lol ***i'm ADOS tho***
@@LisaEsselAddoI also went to Hampton and absolutely will be checking this spot out during HOCO!!
I don't know why my people are so greedy. $40 for one meal..i don't understand it.😮
Dennis didn't want to like it the jollof war is real!😂
OMG Aunty Jackie's Aunty!??? I love to see it! I'm actually so glad that you're sharing this and thank you, because you're opening up and sharing this experience is really kind of you. I've wanted to learn to make this so I'm watching closely.
hey boo, love having you here as always 🥰🤎
Your aunt is so sweet ❤️ I loved seeing you guys cook together!
‘You gone cut that with your bare hands?’😂😂😂 I love the confidence that Aunty had with that big ole knife. It’s a right of passage back home😂❤
she SENT me with the "i like the chemicals, it's like extra seasoning"🤣
such a wholesome video!!❤❤
This was absolutely beautiful!!!! Thanks for sharing Aunty Bola with us and importantly CULTURE. Bless up 🙏🏾❤️
Auntie is legit! She said if we don't have enough, we can add water. ❤❤❤
Aunty Bola is so gentle. We want more Aunty Bola ❤
I can’t beat his mommas recipe but I will try to win his heart with Auntie Bolas 😂❤
Trying this recipe! I'm Haitian, and this recipe proves my west African ancestry more conclusively than any DNA test could.
As much as the Ghanaian v Naija jollof war will continue, I will never insult another woman's jollof no matter how Ghanaian I am. You did well. Good job. Jollof has been my favorite since I could chew! lol
I love the way Nigerians say pehpeh 🫑🌶
Loved this video! Please do more showing different African dishes. I’ve never made joloff rice but after seeing this I will attempt to make it. The rice looked delicious! Also, your aunt is adorable.
You really have to go to the Aunties of any culture for the good cooking! I’ve had homemade and restaurant Jollof, and I’m team somebody Aunty needs to make it 😂.
My fav Nigerian recipe is Egusi. I’ve had Moi Moi and though I don’t like black-eyed peas, I really enjoyed it-Moi Moi reminds me of Aunty-made Mexican tamales which I also like. Thanks for sharing with us, hopefully we can see more someday ❤
9:00 the real OGs never measure! I can’t get my mom to explain a recipe to me 🤦🏾♀️
It's like a superpower! How do they never measure but make consistently delicious foods??
Here in South Georgia and South Carolina we have a similar dish, red rice. Some different ingredients used but very similar with the tomato base. It makes me wonder the history of how our red rice came about and if it may stem from jollof. Thank you for sharing!
jackie i love how excited you were to learn this! i hated cooking growing up so i never learned how but it could be so fun when you’re not made to feel like it’s a chore. the cool thing about jollof is how customizable it is to your personal taste and preferences. hope to see u make it again too❤❤
Exactly, it’s fun when you don’t have to! 🤣
Your aunt is a delight! She's so beautiful too, with such a great spirit! ❤
Shout out to Auntie for sharing her recipe!!! This is a must try for me. I consistently ask my friend's mom to make this rice for me, I know she's tired of my request (she keeps the recipe to herself). Yayy Jackie, for expanding!!!! Shout out also to the camera woman and the great questions!!!
The Jollof rice looks soo good, love how aunty showed all the steps, going to be making this. Looks delicious
I just made it watching this and it’s so good. Thank you Aunt Bola and Jackie! This is the most flavor I ever had when I made jallof rice.I never thought to add chicken broth. 🙌🏾🎉
Chiiiileee I just learned to make Jollof rice watching this video. Thank you Jackie and Auntie Bola.
This looked so good! Making my mouth water! 🔥🤤 Also Auntie Bola is everything! She so sweet and funny! ❤️
Jackie's skin looks so radiant and healthy - especially bc she's having fun :)
I love auntie Bola, immediately 🥰
I love this Jackie!! I learned how to make my Dad’s AUTHENTIC Ghanaian Jollof recipe this year that was passed down from his grandmother yearrrrss ago as a child. I felt so proud & it came out AMAZING!
This is sooo incredibly cute. I'm glad you were able to do this with your Auntie, she seems like she enjoyed teaching you 💞
we had so much fun! she enjoyed sharing her recipe with you all 🦋
Great job Jackie! The jollof rice looks great 👍🏾 As a Nigerian girl that makes Nigerian food with my mom, I’m happy to see this on your lavish channel. Making African food in general is a lifestyle for sure. I would love to see more content like this ❤
our food is fine dining too 🤗 CHEERS 🥂🤎
Yes indeed!
I have all the ingredients at home! I didn’t think it would be so easy to make ☺️
Have you tried it? How did it turn out?
I'm an Auntie Bola stan
🥹 I'm relieved your auntie is there for you; so lucky! I tried alone, and it was a mess. 😂😂😂 Great job 🎉❤
I absolutely would never try this alone! omgg
I really enjoyed this, Jackie you was clearly out of your element😅. Thanks Auntie Bola❤
Auntie Bola was lovely and I think I would try to make this recipe. I enjoy this type of content please consider making more.
thank you for watching 🥰
I made this tonight with my curry chicken. The kids said her jollof was amazing. Thank you for sharing💚💚💚💚✨️
Please bring auntie back for more recipies!!!!
I’ve always wanted to learn how to make jollof. Needless to say, I will be hanging on to every word auntie Bola is saying. Thank you for sharing, Jackie!
Omg your aunt is an angel this made me miss Bahamas thank you for this video .. family is everything
Hi Jackie, the reason to wash ANY rice is to remove the starch, not because you want sticky rice, Glad you are getting taught by the elders. The best recipes come from them! Your Aunt's energy is so peaceful.
I loved watching this! It introduced me to a different cultures cooking. The recipe looked very easy and reminded me of Mexican rice. I’m definitely going to try it out!
Auntie Bola definitely look like that aunt who cooks the best in the family I wrote down every step I’m gonna try I’m Jamaican we love spicy food
I loved every moment of this. My mom taught me how to make a soup of hers recently over the phone, and it was such an enriching experience. This video gave me similar vibes.
Wait how did I not know that there was a lavishly Jackie UA-cam!!!
This is a great recipe for beginners imo. Especially if you don't have an afro store of choice, the ingredients here are easily accessible. My Nigerian mum has a different recipe but this looks soo good 🤤
I'm of Jamaican heritage and I've always wanted to learn how to make this rice, my uni mate was meant to teach me but glad this has come up
Loved this! Lol I’m going to try this, just started successfully cooking rice last year 😂😂. But yes loved having your aunt in the kitchen and you two sharing that time and showing us. Thank you
Emphasis on “successfully” lol I love it!
Jackie I don't know if you know who she is or if you've ever heard or read anything about her. If she were still alive she would be so very, very proud of you, your life, your lifestyle, all that you are being and bringing to this world as a Nigerian as a Black women in such a time as this. Her name is the one and only B. Smith. She'd loved the fact that you do your thing with, Style. That was her tag line. Do it with, Style. Take care.
See how colourful and red it came out, looks so so yummy. Good to be here, enjoy your home decor and arrangement on Instagram then your channel popped up. It's the cameraman and your husband's reaction for me😆👌
Please make a video with your auntie showing you how to make moin moin!! 💕
The definition of lavish is owning a Smeg blender and never using it. I’m tryna GET. LIKE. JACKIE!
I love this Jackie, I am Jamaican and always wanted to make this, will definitely try. Love your Auntie, love your pot and spoons. Love you girl. Thanks for sharing ❤
When Jackie asked a question about peeling the onion, I remember when my younger bro cooked Indomie without peeling the back of the onion. My mom always used the turning stick on him that day😅
your auntie is an incredible instructor! Thank you for sharing!!! definitely would love to try this recipe!
I loved this so much! I have an Aunty Bola too and this made me miss her dearly 🤗
I really loved this Jackie! And thank you so much for sharing your family with us I know you keep them near and dear!!
“Oooh you do everything with your hands, you so crafty” I am cracking up 😂😂😂
That food looks amazing I'd love to see you and your family cook more African dishes.
family is more behind the scenes and I plan on keeping it that way lol but it was fun having her on here! maybe I’ll bring her back again but as a spur of the moment thing
Jackie, I never thought I would see you cooking. But I am here for it. But please don't scratch those beautiful pots. I am going to try this recipe. Please, let us in on the details on cute outfit. Thank you, Auntie, Bola for teaching us all.
my grandmother is from trinidad she doesn't like to cook with salt either that was so nice to see idk almost nostalgic in a way💖 love you jackie!
I rewinded this no less than 8700 times and I did my best with auntie bola recipe…it’s good! I’m sure it still doesn’t hold a candle to Aunties tho
I’m happy to see this from you. Thank you! Hope to see you try more new things like this ❤
Yuuummm its kinda similar to how us Puerto Ricans make yellow rice. We put tomato paste, garlic, and onion and clientro all blended up with the chicken seasoning and oil to cook off first. 😋 uggghhh the best smell.
Moin-moin with egg and sardine bangs! Even with corned beef is delicious 🤤 yummy 😋
Okay but I loved this.
I haven't had Nigerian food yet but I have plans to visit lots of spots with friends. This is gonna be a be a must have.
if you like spice then you would love it 🤎🤎
I LOVE THIS! and your auntie seems so sweet 🥰
In Nigeria, we eye ball our ingredients. So I feel Aunty Bola when she said she just pours. Our ancestors have not left our side, It doesn't fail. Mostly. 😅🤣 Much love from Nigeria, you did good.🇳🇬❤
and when you love making a dish I’m sure with time it basically becomes muscle memory 🤗
@@LavishlyJackie Sure 💯
