I’m in the process of painting the interior of the house. We’ve had warmer tones when it was the norm now looks dated. So leaning towards lighter colors. Good point on the fixtures such as floor color. Great tips on west, south facing rooms. Thanks for posting.
Glad it was helpful for you!
I love white, just moved and going to paint my bedroom all white.
White is very popular right now, and goes with everything!
My newly painted white walls look dingy so I’m going to re-paint. Thanks for the video and the advice. Surely wish I’d come across it sooner.
Glad it was helpful!
I did go to a color specialist. She did not tell me to take into consideration n/s e/w exposure firstly. See did not tell me the undertones were yellow and green. I was trying to find an alternative to Swiss coffee with more of a beige undertone in off white. I learned an expensive lesson as labor isn’t cheap. Also, I will paint a wall first in my darkest areas. Samples aren’t enough and just don’t give you a true picture of the whole of the color. Btw, my house is n/s exposure with tinted windows and shade screens. Something else I hadn’t considered until I came across your video. Oh well, time to recover!
Thank you so so much for this! I’m in a builder’s grade home and these cream off white walls make it so hard to decorate my space. It seems like it throws everything off. So here I am looking for a white. I’m going to try to diy and paint my 12 foot walls 😅this video was so helpful! To Lowes I go! I’ll update you and let you know how it goes.
I'm learning so much from your videos. Great content. Thank you!!!
what color is the green behind you? Its gorgeous. Thanks.
white dove is the super best for me!!!!!
White Dove is pretty awesome!
The wall color right behind you is what I’m looking for.
My wall color is SW Modern Gray :-)
@@welshdesignstudio thank you!
Sherwin Williams Extra White 7006 is the best option
Great video very concise thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Painted my open space high ceiling south facing home White Dove - looks like a cheap white gray contractor color. Detest it!
I'm suprised so many designers & people on line seem to like white Dove!
What about inside a a camper ? Specially speaking in regards to a pop up camper where you can enclose it or open it up to let a lot of natural light in.
What are your thoughts on using a white dove on a north-facing two-story living room/white oak floors/open floor plan? Any other alternates?
I find alabaster to be more yellowish in person than in the video. Chantilly just love, also love pure white
Yes, Alabaster can look quite creamy or yellow, depending on the lighting.
East facing house? My kitchen has no windows and was wanting to paint the whole interior same color. Cabinets and countertops are white so don't want it to be too blended.
With an east-facing home and low light, you may find that whites look a little muddy on your walls. The best way to counteract that is to try whites that are brighter and warmer (more yellow/beige in them). BM Cloud White is a good one to start with, and then you might have to pivot based on how it looks.
USEFUL VIDEO
Glad to hear that
Yeah. Someone else asked thesame question. Color behind you. Looks like a lime green
It does look a bit more green in the video than in person! :-)
Great video! I’m having trouble finding a white wall color with my trim. I have over 4,000 square feet painted door & trim in Pure White by Sherwin Williams. What white colors would pair best for my walls. I don’t mind the brand, I just don’t want to repaint my doors and trim. Thank you 🙏🏻
SW Pure White can be a nice white for walls, as well! However, if you want subtle contrast try SW Pearly White or SW Moderne White. And, if you want to go a bit darker with your white, give SW Shoji White or SW Natural Choice a try.
I'm curious what the color of the door and trim is in the thumbnail photo?
The walls are Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace, and the trim is Benjamin Moore Seapearl
What is the brand of the paint? Very helping content. Thank you maam.
Hi Melissa, this is exactly what I needed for my semi-custom house for next year... Unfortunately I have no choice on selecting paint color but they are going with the white that has cooler tone (which I don't think I like). My home is facing west, and has black & white kitchen cabinets. The floor has a darker tone to it... I think I like more of warm and creamy colors, so most of my furniture pieces are white or has the creamy lookin color. Should I repaint the walls with white dove? 😂
I have west facing windows and warm floor color. My house looks very traditional but I want to modernize it and brighten it up. Should I go with a warm white or a cooler white. I don’t want it to look yellow
You'll want to go with a warm white to work with the warmer tones in your flooring, but you can choose one that is a little more neutral. Something like BM Chantilly Lace is very bright, clean and crisp looking, or SW Pure White, which is warm, but has some gray in it to keep it more neutral looking.
Id be interested in getting more information about you helping match the best paint color to a house. Im thinking about painting my house while and would love to see what you have to offer. Thank you

Hi I have a question, I am repeating the interior of my house and I am planning to use SW Alabaster for walls and SW Pure white on cabinets. Is that a good choice? I also want to a suggestion about the Ceiling paint, which paint you suggest?
In the first picture it shows Chantilly lace wall but what is the color of the trim on the door please
The trim is BM Seapearl.
We are going to paint our house soon. I am looking a white colour which doesn’t have any undertone on it. Only White and white. Which colour should we go with? Plz suggest me the best one. Thank you.
A good white with no detectable undertone to it is Benjamin Moore's Chantilly Lace.
I look at some pictures of homes and the colors look creamy. What I mean by that is that they seem creamy in texture and it makes you feel like tasting it. Not literally, mind you.
I like the white Dove and I my house, being traditional, has quite of bit of trim. What trim goes well with White Dove. Thank you
You can use White Dove as your trim color throughout the house, but if you want the trim to be brighter and stand out against White Dove, try BM Chantilly Lace
Wonder what color the trim and door is in the first picture BM chantilly
Which white is best for a home with Saltillo tile floors wanting a California vibe
A warm white is best. BM Simply White or SW Alabaster would both look great. You could also try BM White Dove.
anyone playing with blank canvas (behr) on their walls....if so any lighter trim ideas? bedroom
Bm simply is good? Because I like it
Hi Melissa, I could really use your help I’m needing to paint my kitchen cabinets I want a white that will look good with white appliances. I have a darker warm/ cool floors. I was thinking Swiss coffee for my wall color in my kitchen and dining room and living room it’s an open space. Could you suggest something for the cabinets and trim and ceilings. Thank you so much!!
You might give BM Chantilly Lace and BM Simply White a try. Both of those whites are bright, and tend to work well with white appliances. They will also look great with Swiss Coffee on the walls.
Please what kind of white will best fit a maple walnut floor?
Go with a warm white that has more of a greige base to it. White Dove is a good one to try, and then adjust to a warmer white (like Alabaster or Swiss Coffee) if you feel like you want more creaminess in the space, or a more neutral white (like Chantilly Lace) if White Dove looks too creamy to you.
Why does everyone recommend sw or bm 🙄 my favorite is painters white by behr... my huds is a professional painter and his company doesn't use sw or bm
It’s so funny how much opinions differ when it comes to paint. My husband is a painter too and he will only use sherwin or Ben Moore.
I’m with you. Behr has been superior to both SW and BM in my experience.
I think a lot of people recommend Sherwin Wiliams or Ben Moore, because their colors are more complex. They provide a different depth of color than behr
Do you recommend one color for the whole house or different colors for the rooms. Right now my house has all the bright colors and I just want to move to super neutral colors whites mainly
Usually I recommend limiting to one or two colors for the main/open areas of the home. Bedrooms and other spaces can have their own unique color.
Would you say chantilly lace looks good with revere pewter? I’ve done a picture framed wall look in my living room and I want to paint that wall something different and “white” is what I’d like but since the other 3 walls are revere pewter … wanted your opinion. I do get a lot of sun later in day as it’s a west facing room.
I’ve been looking at BM White Dove but since hearing this I’m not sure. I really don’t know if I need warm or cool…. I just want it to look good with Revere Pewter. I want to hear what you’d recommend. Thanks 😊
Chantilly Lace is very neutral, so it will work with almost any other color, and is a good one to pair with Revere Pewter. White Dove is also fantastic with Revere Pewter. Best thing to do is get samples of each and see what you think of them in person, with your unique lighting conditions.
@@welshdesignstudio I did do the samples on my walls of the 2 colors and I really really like Chantilly Lace. Thanks for all your wonderful tips. And yes, I agree chantilly is neutral and goes with everything. 🤗
Hi, can you suggest a color for a bedroom with very limited natural lighting. I'm torn between a neutral warm color or a white? Much appreciated
Your instinct to choose a light neutral or a white is a good one. You might try a light greige like BM Classic Gray, BM Edgecomb Gray, or SW Modern Gray, and then adjust lighter/darker as desired. They all pass for "almost white", but give a hint of color.
Would really appreciate your advice. My kitchen doesn't get a lot of natural light and so we painted a large sample, Benjamin Moore Simply White, but it is looking too yellow. We would like to stay with a warm white for the cabinets, but with less yellow in it. Any suggestions would be very helpful. My kitchen is torn apart, hope you can comment soon. Our cabinet maker can't seem to get the stain right, so we have decided to have them painted instead.
Try BM Chantilly Lace!
@@welshdesignstudio thank you my bedroom needs an upgrade but very little light comes in
What color would you use with dove white as wall color?
The great thing about BM White Dove is that it goes with just about everything. Check out my post on White Dove for some great coordinating colors: welshdesignstudio.com/benjamin-moore-white-dove/
Hi! What is the color behind you in the video? It looks somewhat gray olive green
SW Modern Gray
Hi. We have a more traditional looking kitchen. Maple cabinets and granite counter top with maple/walnut hardwood floors. We are thinking of going SW pure white for walls ceilings and trims. Any thought ? Worried the tones would clash.
We have white (SW Alabaster) painted woodwork in our home. When painting white walls should I try to match the woodwork or just adhere to the bigger picture rules of using whites and no worry about trim color?
Painting your walls SW Alabaster in a flat sheen will look great, or you can choose another wall color. Because Alabaster is fairly creamy, you'll want to be more selective with your wall colors. Here's a post I created that talks about Alabaster, and some great colors to pair with it: welshdesignstudio.com/sherwin-williams-alabaster/
What color is on the wall behind you? It’s pretty.
My wall color is SW Modern Gray :-)
Peace Be Upon You dear sis. I wish to paint my study table and cabinet pure white, which one should I go for ? Would appreciate it if you can reply before the 5th
Sorry this is late, but a good pure, bright white is BM Chantilly Lace.
What suggestions does anyone have for a white trim color that goes with the white color on the walls that were suggested here to give the trim a pop without throwing off the white on the walls?
BM Chantilly Lace is a great trim color that tends to be brighter than the whites shown in the video, so it can give a nice pure white pop against the white on the walls.
@@welshdesignstudio Thank you!
what about the sheen ? how to choose the right sheen?
Great question! Flat sheen is typically used for interior walls. For bathrooms and kitchens, and kid spaces, an eggshell or low-lustre sheen is usually best. Tends to be slightly more durable/washable and longer lasting. For trim/cabinets/doors, satin sheen is my recommendation, though semi-gloss is another good choice, if you like a little more shine.
Loved your video, thank you😊
Could you share the paint color behind you😁 seems to me like a moss green. Thank you❤️
The color on my walls is SW Modern Gray
Trying to get away from the Gray trend. However, I own rental houses and I’m trying to stand out from all the rentals on the market with Agreeable Gray which I have been using since 2016, but still find a white that can be suitable for rentals. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Agreeable Gray is quite popular! :-) For a rental, you might try a softer off-white that won't be too hard to keep clean, and have universal appeal. Something like BM Classic Gray, which is light with nice warmth to it. BM Olympic Mountains has become fairly popular for more of an off white that isn't too creamy, and BM Pale Oak is another designer favorite.
@@welshdesignstudio Perfect. I’ll look into these. Thanks! Keep the vids coming 👍
What about for east facing rooms?
Hello, I need to select a color for my kitchen remodel. Would BM Swiss Coffee go with my wall color which is SW Accessible Beige? I am looking for ivory/creamy with gray undertone. My island is white oak light stained and my countertop is quartzite Calacatta Macaubus which has gray and beige tone. Thanks.
Yes, those two can work well together. I would also recommend trying a sample of SW Alabaster with Accessible Beige.
What about a south facing living room
South facing rooms can handle a wide variety of colors. They get ample light throughout the day, with the light turning slightly warmer in the late afternoon. So, any of the whites here will work well. Just be sure to test first.
Don’t most houses have rooms that get north and west light and shouldn’t all ceilings be painted the same color so don’t you need to pick a white that will look good in both? Which one(s) look good in both?
Ideally, yes! You’d like to use the same white color for trim and ceilings throughout your home. I have another video on the best white paint colors for trim (and ceilings) you might find helpful. ua-cam.com/video/unqLsu18UKA/v-deo.html
@@welshdesignstudio thanks! I’ll watch. Going to be painting next month.
What about cooler white colours
A great cooler white you could try is Benjamin Moore's Paper White
What's your opinion on SW 7006 Extra White? Is it a modern looking white? Thank you.
Sometimes SW Extra White can look a little stark on the walls. It might work ok in a west facing room. Just be sure to test it first
Awesome. Thank you. What about choosing a while for textured (knock down) walls?
great video! could I kindly ask what white or off-white color would you recommend for 2 of my rooms?
1. a north west facing bedroom (one window) that will be converted into a white built in closet for filming content?
2. A south west facing bedroom, one window
both rooms have Shaw, desert light carpet (neutral color)
its been very difficult to find a video for north west and south west rooms. Thanks in advanced for your help!
I would start with a sample of BM White Dove and see how it looks in the two rooms, then adjust (if needed) from there.
What color is the wall behind you? Soft green wall.. thank you
That's Sherwin-Williams Modern Gray
@@welshdesignstudio thank you!
You called a lot of these whites warm, which are cool? im in a west facing studio apartment with dark floors and white melamine kitchen cabinets that only has one window, so not a lot of light. I want to buy caramel/tan leather sofa Help!
Would you happen to know the code color for the cloud white? Home depot doesn't seem to carry the brand but they have2 different color codes for it so I'm a bit confused.
We are planning to paint our home a white above our paneling. Also on our upper cabinets. Then in a bedroom. They get the north and south facing. We were thinking Alabaster. Husband wants Sherman Williams. What white trim would you suggest?
You can use Alabaster as a trim color, but if you want to use a white that won't be quite as creamy throughout your home, try pairing Alabaster with SW Extra White or SW High Reflective White. These are both brighter than Alabaster, and will help Alabaster stand out on its own.
Thanks so much for this. My husband wants to paint the interior of the house white bc it feels so dark in here .. and I’m so clueless about white. Last time I tried it was WAY too bright. I hated it. So do you paint the walls and the baseboards and crown molding the same color ??? If you want an all white look? This video was so helpful. I’m clueless but we are broke and trying to DIY
I have a video about choosing trim colors that might help. There are certain whites that will work great as both a wall and trim color, and others that won't. ua-cam.com/video/unqLsu18UKA/v-deo.html
What interior whole house color do you recommend if the house have dark brown wooden flooring and white kitchen cabinets?
same question!
What are your thoughts on Chantilly White for walls and Designer White for Trim? What would you use as a white if you used White Dove on Walls?
Chantilly Lace is a bright, crisp white, and Decorator's White is a slightly darker, cooler white. You could just use Chantilly Lace as both your wall and trim color, unless you want the trim to be slightly darker(?) For White Dove walls, you can use White Dove for the trim, or go lighter with BM Simply White or BM Chantilly Lace.
We just painted our room one wall is a dark teal and I got white dove from Benjamin Moore to paint the rest of the wall but why does it look really white? I don’t want it to blend in with my white trim please help what do you think?
It depends on your lighting and your existing trim color. If you get a lot of natural light in the room, White Dove will look like a brighter white. If you want a white that won't blend in with your trim, you might want to try something like BM Classic Gray
Bm simply white
Which white should I use for the basement? I’m turning it into a living room and I don’t want it to look yellow.
If your basement doesn't get a ton of light, you could try something bright and neutral (no yellow), like BM Chantilly Lace.
What grey is that behind u?
Sherwin-Williams Modern Gray
Thank you. I just purchased agreeable grey for throughout the interior. These videos are not in vain,, you’re helping ppl!!!! Thanks for sharing.
With Edwards Oak lvP and chantilly for the trim!!! Hopefully it’s beautiful because my kitchen uppers and bottom cabinets are very dark brown
I. Can’t decide between Swiss coffee and SW alabaster the color would be for my entire first floor My house faces north and is a dark house Studio McGee recommends Swiss coffee at 75 percent . What do you think. Help
I think alabaster has more yellow tone in it
The best way to choose is to get samples of both and try them in your house. Both have a creamy quality to them, which will work great for your north facing home. If either looks too dark, you can always ask the paint store to lighten a color by a percentage, and it might be perfect.
Thanks for this video really has helped me. When painting ceiling and trim would you recommend using same painting?
It depends a little on which white color you're using, but in general, yes! Just use a flat sheen for your ceiling and a semi-gloss or satin sheen for your trim.
@@welshdesignstudio thank you !
@@welshdesignstudio you have very beautiful eyes
I’m sorry but swiss coffee is pure beige
As beige as a beige can be
It can look different in different lighting, but you're right that in some cases it looks quite yellow/beige.
What is the color of the wall behind you?
Sherwin Williams Modern Gray
What's the color behind you in the opening statement.
SW Modern Gray
I have a choice of Sherwin Williams Pure White or Extra White and am unable to get in and sample. The cabinets are a very bright white and I feel like Extra White might match better but a designer and the SW consultant said go with Pure White yet I am afraid it will look too yellow/warm and clash with the bright white cabinets. Yet I know Extra White can have a blue or grey undertone and look cold. Any ideas anyone? Oh, I also found a beautiful subway tile (Paloma Cotton Matte) that looks great with SW Pure White so maybe it's ok if the cabinets are brighter.
Agree that Pure White would be a good choice! It only has a hint of warmth to it and blends really well with other bright, neutral whites.
Would you paint ceilings and walls with a same white color?
It depends on the white, but often the answer is yes
@@welshdesignstudio I think I'm going to go with Aria white. Thank you for your response
Hospitalish Cemeterish white...
We don’t use white when we design hospitals.
What colour are the trims and the door in the chantily lace picture?
