not exactly how the og bfg worked, but decino has a great set of videos covering that. it should work like the modern bfg though; big ball that zaps a bunch of enemies at the same time, cooking a bunch of shit to death. wouldn't be opposed to DE using the original version though, imagine 128 enemies in steel path suddenly disintegrating _after the shot explodes_
I think we need an episode two here with the Opticor Vandal. You also mentioned the Vandal, and personally I think, that the Vandal could have a different build due to higher charge rate.
I understand the struggle here, because when the Vandal came out, I was also in the camp of 'well increasing the fire rate and reducing the damage completely ruins the appeal'. Like, the Opticor is meant to be the ultra-slow windup to stupid big numbers. I kinda wish they'd stop playing scared about it, and just let a weapon like this have a THICK-ass beam. When we're on iteration, like, *ten* of Arca Plasmor-like guns, culminating in the Incarnon Lex Prime being a 'one-shot god and 70% chance to proc slash too' kind of gun, I feel like you could take the Opticor and make that beam the size of the Fluctus, or the explosion the size of the Ogris, and it wouldn't ruin the meta. Considering we just got the Onos and that thing's beam is so deeply... 'not enough', I feel like DE is still scared of that. Know what I mean?
I recommend wyrm prime with the bond mods that give final 1.5x CRIT and 60% fire rate to buff the two things that you felt were missing in your build. another thing that could help is actually double stacking CRIT with critical delay and the galvanized mod I'd replace vigilante armaments. Just off the top of my head that's what I'd try
firstly, the vandal version improves a lot of the QOL issues opticor has, but I also found that running it with galvanized aptitude with standard slash setup works really well; especially with pet doing priming for aptitude, it makes it a lot more viable
This is why if you want to use the Opticor you use the Opticor Vandal, it basically turns the BFG into a semi auto laser canon with decent fire rate and bonkers damage + some aoe
Ah, my beloved Spartan Laser. I've tuned mine for normal Starchart as that's what I mostly run, and it's just amazing. Love this thing. Also, I love that the end was basically "I'm not too satisfied with the results, but that doesn't mean it's a bad weapon" Too many creators decide that if they can't make it work, then it doesn't work.
God the Opticor NEEDS an upgrade. The vandal is NOT an upgrade and if you like the feel of the OG opticor the vandal doesn’t even feel like a side grade. They should’ve made a Tenet Opticor.
I don't exactly remember what update, but it was post-Plains of Eidolon launch, people figured out that the "beam" of the opticor was just a linearized cone, coding wise. So with this, they tried Negative Accuracy. This would cause the "pipe-cone" to start clipping through itself until you had a 180 degree cone of damage with -200%+ Accuracy, and since the beam was Hitscan, it would auto-hit heads in that cone. Was a wild couple of weeks of people using +300% Fire Rate -200% accuracy rivens to make a auto-clicker mapwiping BFG.
Does this still work this way? don't have a rive (yet) but i am wanting to try and build the opticor vandel. Will also have to make a mental note that minus accuracy is a possible buff on that corrupted mod for [select] hitscan
My beautiful Opticor, power crept so hard over the years. What was once the single strongest hitting weapon in the game is now on the low end of damage, even the Vandal version is rough to use. We def need an Opticor incarnon or tenet version. Also, I always felt that the Opticor is more similar to the Gauss Cannon than the BFG, with the Arca Plasmor being the true BFG.
When they said they were making Incarnons for weapons that have fallen behind, THIS is what I thought they meant. Opticor is by no means a bad weapon. It's just a relic of the past. The 2nd gen Incarnons we got are good, but I just thought they'd do more.
One of the issues I've had with the Opticor weapons is the charge/fire rate. One solution was instead of adding more fire rate mods on the weapon, is to bring in a companion with the [Reinforced Bond] mod, which grants 60% Fire rate to weapons. That way, it frees up a mod slot on your weapon, which you can use to add another damage or status mod
Its a sad day when you look at the Opticor.....THE WARFRAME BFG......and can only say, "meh" Its like watching someone tear down the sky and all you do is shrug XD
Now this is absolute classic, i remember wrecking the starchart with this badboi and the vandal variant. Opticor need buff, or at least an incarnon badly so it can become the BFG once more!

This gun deserves an incarnon that creates Heavy Barrel Arcade Game/Wave Motion Gun vibes with something like wisps 4 but a bigger beam and not garbage scaling.
Ohhh gosh, how I loved this weapon xD I paid around 2k plat for a riven with +Critchance+CritDmg+FireRate+Recoil. It was totally worth it, I had a lot of fun with it.
When I want to use the good ol' BFG, I grab Kullervo. I have my companion prime enemies with status effects, build for pure damage + Crit on the Opticor itself, no firerate. When I see a big group of enemies, I cast Collective Curse, fire a shot at someone's head once they're primed, and most of the crowd just explodes. It feels really good, but Kullervo is really carrying it there. For the Opticor Vandal, I do build some fire rate, but I also add punch through. It works really well in narrow hallways with the punch through added.
Glad to be in a opticor video before kuva and incarnons the vandal it used to be my favourite primary it was pretty broken with og viral hunter and heat also yw for the gift and try a suda drone with inaros before the bug gets patched xd

The Opticor Vandal has been my go to gun ever since I first grinded it. I got it when I was still a newbie to the game after grinding thermia fractures. Needless to say... After using weapons like the Boltor and the Braton, the Opticor Vandal made one hell of a first impression. I still use it to this day. I have an Ability Strength/Duration Rhino with Nourish and a Crit/Fire rate build with a Fire rate/Multishot/CD riven. It ends up feeling like a semi-automatic lazer gun. It's very fun. Still one/two shots enemies even in steel path, and stacks slash/viral procs deceptively well thanks to all the multishot and fire rate bonuses.
One thing I learned after a long time of using hunter munition on many weapons.. Don't just slap it in anywhere and expect it to feel good. Either build around it fully with your whole loadout (primary weapon, primer and frame all make a full combination) to make sure you proc it fast and reliably as possible, and make the most out of it... or then completely half-ass it by running a normal 7 mod build for viral and crit, and just add hunter munition as a last mod instead of something like hammer shot or vigilante armaments. And as far as opticor goes, I'd heavily suggest running with Arcane Acceleration for extra 90% fire rate. I hated the original opticor so much because it was so damn slow. I do like vandal version, not that I use it tho..
I have 5 forma in this weapon and I've loved it forever, but I only ever use the Vandal version nowadays. The fire rate is the most important thing. Hunter Munitions, multishot, and galvanized aptitude to scale the direct hits multiplicatively makes it feel a lot better.
Personaly I had my falling out with the Opticor (Vandal) years ago, but with the companion rework, fixing crit modi and fire rate with bond mods or setting up gunCO with Diriga/Hounds salvaged this weapon archetype for me, yet I still think the Quellor being my prefered choice of the pre fire charge weapons, just having a status assault rifle primary fire for flexibility, having the kuva/tenet luxery (innate cold on both modes) of only needing 1 extra status mod for viral and the forced impact proc on the charge shot for internal bleeding lets it work with more builds or on most enemy types in general, only detriment is the limited range on the charge beam but that can be extended with projectile velocity mods.
Note on vigilante supplies MC. If you put 3 of the mods on a sentinel weapon with supplies on the weapon you %20 to enhance crit even if you aren't running a companion that uses gun sentinel weapona.
The Incarnon should shoot a richocheting solid laser After the shot the Lazer will stay in the environment as a physical object, making contact with enemies and damaging them. I imagine this as one of those "laser walls" from spy movies Finally it will explode along the line
I remember receiving this gun when I was only MR5 idk how it worked but I did. Was unloved with it since, still have it till this day and it has 15 forma to it because of the changes with each update
Hunter munitions is fine on this.....and since the explosions do magnetic, it works fine on corpus....which aren't as weak to viral+slash combo. Radiation+toxic with the Primary Blight arcane...I can even fit hunter munitions....the slash and toxic with all the extra crit damage....this is great against every enemy in the game and I've even used it on the big robo-spider
with the built in magnetic damage in the explosion combined with very "methodical" fire rate, ive had decent utility with the Primary Obstruct Arcane. Disarms enemies within 15 after a mag proc albeit with a cooldown. While you do lose the damage potential of other arcanes, I think its worth a try if you have something more akin to hot weapon swap playstyle.
Maybe I'm just crazy, but I genuinely think the only thing that holds Opticor/Opticor Vandal back is the magnetic aoe; I swear every time I use it half my headshots do no damage because the aoe took priority instead of the massive laser part. Also the fact that it got self-stagger when the aoe changes went live also is mildly annoying.

Redline boosts the fire rate, and the Redline version of Hot+Cold Thermal Sunder will strip all of the armor from a foe. Hm... Maybe I should try it? I remember using it in Vay Hek raids back in 2015/2016 i painted it to look like the Halo 3 M6 Spartan Laser, even with my crap build it was able to hit kill the enemies lol
The opticor is one of my alltime favorite weapons together with the Ferrox and sadly the Opticor just hasnt been able to move with the times. Back in the day it just oneshot everything and now it needs so much ontop to do much in steel path, star chart still oneshots but still sad
Diriga arc coil, bond mods DeadheadGalv aptitude, galv chamber, galv scope, moar crit, corrosive fire rate etc No Hunter Munitions, just big pp dmg. Its okay for base SP, but not for any higher level content. One shots fodder and two shots eximus.
To me it could keep the slow charge, but amping the damage and giving it full body punch through exploding for smallER (the distribution it has now is kinda low) damage with each enemy the beam touches...or even putting the explosion only when hitting a surface BUT prolonging the duration of the beam;d on't even need to be a held trigger, just firing the laser for some seconds allowing the player to move the stream to hit more enemies or the enemies to walk into it. Or both changes above combined?
I still wanted to have more tenet weapons. Like the exergis, opticor or lenz would have lend themselves perfect additions to the tenet catalog. I still feel like DE cheaped out on the Tenet weapons.
Been looking, its actually fodder. I cant think of a single build where there it doesnt require immense outside buffing My only “unique” build is camp nidus with parasitic vitality and teeming virulence, tek adarza, gas and electric
qorvex (punchthrough and a grouping tool), arcane acceleration, reinforced bond, viral + electric or more crit + gas and bam, ragdoll grouping tools + electric are nasty stinky

Question about corrosive, if you put the shard that increases the stacks, but you don't have a source of corrosive, but your companion does, does that increase it too, or just if you apply them?
Mix some corrosive w\status chance + radiation + cold and add primary frostbite with some raw DMG and crit and some weapons will wreck everything up, like the bubonico that with a similar build smashes through anything even steel path and specially if your Warframe freezes enemies
Last time I use Opticor was in circuit I didn't get it fully build with viral slash but still bring it to level 4k SP, hunter munition work quite well on it while it go brrrrrrrrra with infinity ammo😂😂😂😂.
imo the Opticor should get much more damage in exchange for a smaller explosion radius. Like, it looks like it's meant to be a tank buster weapon. Single target, slow fire rate, super high damage..... but as it stands now it doesn't have the super high dmg :(
Your last build is kind wonky. Like your didnt even use a dedicated crit mod at the end so there was no point strike or critical delay so that would make your damage all over the place. My suggestion similar build but ensure u have a crit mod, vigilante set bonus and instead of Inarous run it with Gauss or Whisp for the fire rate buff and then u will absolutely love it
They should make it so if the beam pierces more than one target it explodes multiple times. Would that probably make it completely broken with enough clumped up targets? Yes. Do I care? No.
This weapons really deserves an incarnon, one that actually gives it a projectile that explodes in a massive radius like the real BFG

Also, put all 4 vigilante mods on the sentinels weapon to get a 20% chance to enhance crits without even needing vigilante mods on the primary weapon

its issue is the fact its not strong enough to run full ctir or status, its just a raw damage weapon that needs something.

My opticor vandal with the typical build vile vital hammer chamber aptitude viral, on zephyr is nuts and on mags bubble it shines with grouping

The opticor is one of my alltime favorite weapons together with the Ferrox and sadly the Opticor just hasnt been able to move with the times. Back in the day it just oneshot everything and now it needs so much ontop to do much in steel path, star chart still oneshots but still sad

prime shred, basic punch through is only 1m, so u boost both ability to kill groups and fire rate
To me it could keep the slow charge, but amping the damage and giving it full body punch through exploding for smallER (the distribution it has now is kinda low) damage with each enemy the beam touches...or even putting the explosion only when hitting a surface BUT prolonging the duration of the beam;d on't even need to be a held trigger, just firing the laser for some seconds allowing the player to move the stream to hit more enemies or the enemies to walk into it. Or both changes above combined?
The vandal is my go to. Somehow it always seems to hit harder. Of course I haven't used either and quite some time....
I still wanted to have more tenet weapons. Like the exergis, opticor or lenz would have lend themselves perfect additions to the tenet catalog. I still feel like DE cheaped out on the Tenet weapons.
Been looking, its actually fodder. I cant think of a single build where there it doesnt require immense outside buffing

qorvex (punchthrough and a grouping tool), arcane acceleration, reinforced bond, viral + electric or more crit + gas and bam,
ragdoll grouping tools + electric are nasty stinky

Question about corrosive, if you put the shard that increases the stacks, but you don't have a source of corrosive, but your companion does, does that increase it too, or just if you apply them?
Opticor is still a meta-based weapon just a very old one lol, and I have yet to get the Vandal but I be lazy with thermal fractures xD
You should try primary frostbite, it's amazing how much crit it gives per shot and per cold stack
Mix some corrosive w\status chance + radiation + cold and add primary frostbite with some raw DMG and crit and some weapons will wreck everything up, like the bubonico that with a similar build smashes through anything even steel path and specially if your Warframe freezes enemies
I have a decent build for it. But it uses an Incarnon with more crit chance and fire rate. Still a wee bit slow but pretty consistent.
Last time I use Opticor was in circuit I didn't get it fully build with viral slash but still bring it to level 4k SP, hunter munition work quite well on it while it go brrrrrrrrra with infinity ammo😂😂😂😂.

imo the Opticor should get much more damage in exchange for a smaller explosion radius. Like, it looks like it's meant to be a tank buster weapon. Single target, slow fire rate, super high damage..... but as it stands now it doesn't have the super high dmg :(

Yeah, nowadays if you want an Opticor you just get the Opticor Vandal, the original one is a bit too slow
Your last build is kind wonky. Like your didnt even use a dedicated crit mod at the end so there was no point strike or critical delay so that would make your damage all over the place. My suggestion similar build but ensure u have a crit mod, vigilante set bonus and instead of Inarous run it with Gauss or Whisp for the fire rate buff and then u will absolutely love it
I put a lot of charge rate on it so it fires extremely quickly, damage is a bit lacking
Have you tried Opticor Vandal? I has a faster fire rate, and a bigger AOE

They should make it so if the beam pierces more than one target it explodes multiple times. Would that probably make it completely broken with enough clumped up targets? Yes. Do I care? No.
You need to run arcane acceleration with this weapon
Replace the charge time with a delay between shots and it'll probably feel better. Alas.
U should use arcane acceleration and avenger on a frame that doesnt need arcanes
