Join my wife and myself on our adventure of building our little homestead farm in the Cascade Mountains of the Pacific Northwest.
Watch as we establish a garden, orchard, build our home, install solar panels and windmill, apiary, raise rabbits, ducks, chickens, geese and goats. Learn with us as we explore pasture management and forest management, and join me as I build a tree house in the timber upon my mountain. We are attempting a different form of prepping. You've gone and done everything I thought was impossible. I'm working minimum wage and my rent is half my monthly pay. I live in one of the cheapest cities in the UK and live in one of the cheapest accommodations in that city. I'm a 52-year-old divorced woman, no kids, and feeling like there's no way out no matter how hard I work or try....until now. Sir, I can't thank you enough for this video. I don't know when I'll be able to do what you've done....but at least I know it's possible. Where it's possible, there's still hope. Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU!

You can do this! Even if you go out and find what land others don't want. Even land that does not perk or land that's got water standing. You can divert waters usually. Go ask farmers with hundreds of acres of they may have 1- 3 acres that they would sell you. Tell them you'd be interested in even the worst land that they find useless. I've not only traded my skills in carpentry and other trades, but traded even help to their farm or business. Three times with success without banks or lending institutions! Twice without a dime paid. And once for work performed plus they even owed me money! I've acquired other property in other ways also. Just put yourself out there. Go ask people. All they can say is no! But just keep pursuing your quest!

SOMEONE instilled some good values and smart thinking in you. You should be proud of your accomplishments - too many people these days would rather collect unemployment or welfare rather than work (my own family members included, I'm not casting stones here) than do hard work. You did hard physical labor while you were young and strong - a very smart move! Now you can relax and you are still young enough to enjoy life without the limits of old age. Travel, learn a new skill or two, teach a neighbor kid how to do something you love - pass on your philosophy. We don't have to spend to be "wealthy" - debt free? You are definitely wealthy!

Nice tip. Our geography my be different from yours, so I built accordingly. Also the Home would have been just fine with a plywood skirting. BUT, I personally chose a more stable one in the event of the MAJOR CASCADIA SLIP which is being expected by the Oregon Emergency Management Team. All the work was done according to Code and surpassed that of our County for Stability in the event of an earthquake. Remember, Codes are specific to region and geology which changes from area to area.

Did you know that people advertise land on eBay? Typically, they auction off the down payment and they can be as little as $100 or less. Then they carry the paper. The downside to that option is most often it is bare land with no utilities -- but, sometimes, the electric power is not that far away. And it is possible to haul water for a while and use a composting toilet (or even a DIY bucket/sawdust/compost yourself method).
The most important thing is to relocate to a place where there aren't a million regulations preventing you from doing what you need to do to build what you want. In places like Texas and Oklahoma and no doubt other states, there are counties where you can do what you want mostly without a bunch of permits, inspections, etc.

I just stumbled onto your site. I have bought properties in other states for a while off the back tax list just over counter Paid the cost plus deed and own most all of it today. That was 20 years ago. I have never set foot on any of it. I just find it fun to do it. I still look around for good deals and I am not wealthy but research will lead to a lot. I don't go to the back tax sales I just wait and go directly to courthouse info and proceed from there. Always check for leins, state, federal, bank and mechanics leins (not all states will excuse the leins). I bought a property for under 30.00 in the west and was contacted by someone who wanted it and I sold that one. Did well too. I find it fun and I like research. Loved your video and am so glad you all are doing well. Look forward to your next video. Take Care

Rob Creel: One of my pet peeves is when people ask WHY ME? I've had some extremely challenging life events, but my attitude is that if I'm going to suffer through something, I am absolutely going to use it to make me a better person. Life is painful at times, but these events are an opportunity for spiritual or emotional growth. ❤

Also Rob Creel.. thats exactly what he is trying to explain for those who struggle in life and with understanding. In a more detailed explanation , man over history is evolved into a mindset of , "oh, i couldnt do that", "what if i did, and the worse came of it", "why do am i having to constantly go through this "....
All negative restrictions that you are actually putting on your self, because every time you say something that contradicts the positive thing you want to have or make up an excuse as to why it wont happen ....then thats exactly what will continue to be as a result......
So the mindset one should have is not "why me" or any of the other things like that in the negative since. Instead of thinking "what if i did do this, & failed causing more suffering and stress"...
It should think, "what if i did do this & suceeded , and the extent of the amount of true happiness that would come from it as a result "

I was looking at hud homes for sale, this one said it was listed for 3 years so I called the phone numbers and immediately the listing was removed which wasn't cool! Then I kept calling around and basically I was jerked out of the property by these realtors. The land was split and sold away from the house, and the house itself was leased for a year to some painting company who trashed out the property. Then before the lease was up? It was sold. So now I've contacted and talked to Rusty Wallace about it, he's said call the office (*he has a real estate office there too) while he's currently busy opening up auto dealerships himself in Knoxville, TN. I still hope to find a super good deal, just haven't found it yet.

There’s a creek at the back of the property and nobody else around. Go through the state website. You’ll see miles of lots that were never developed. The lots that are abandoned revert to the state and you can make an offer. The taxes usually drop off for new owners, some don’t so do your research. I’m sure there are similar sites in every state. We're living in one of those lease-to-own buildings (we call it our Cabin), fixing it up as we're able. We don't know anyone in the area, have no family other than each other, and no one to assist us, but we're plugging along. It's great fun to make plans and work them into reality. I feel like a little girl again, playing 'make believe' and playing in the dirt. Best of all, we own it free and clear, paying only the very small property taxes. We keep expenses very low and it helps immensely that I pressure/waterbath can our food. I'm rambling now, but I mainly want to congratulate you and your family for having the courage and fortitude to live The American Dream. We're living ours too. God bless you and keep you always.

Thank you sir for posting this video. Pure genius way to own your property, "free and clear" plus yearly taxes. I have researched this topic for years looking at various options on how to go about it.
You saved a small fortune by purchasing the land with existing hookups. From what I have researched, many people purchase land ( usually the cheapest and easiest part) with the hopes of placing a tiny house, yurt, trailer, RV, Treehouse ect... Once they apply for the proper paperwork to install the septic or electric that's when reality sets in. They start calling contractors for estimates on the septic or well and find out that they now need up to a 100k for septic and a well. This can be heartbeaking news especially when you have saved up and worked hard to find the land and the shelter.
That's the easy part finding land building shelter, the hard part is getting things up to code. Specially in the western costal estates you might find places in Oregon that are friendly towards alternative living structures yurts tiny houses ect.. They are real strict about protecting water sources so you will need to have the proper stamps when it comes to your septic hookups. And that's where it gets expensive since the contractors know this and can charge an arm and a leg. There's workarounds if you can do most of the work yourself but chances are this step alone will cost more that the land.
Anyway to get back on poin. Thanks for the video like I said you have opened a new path for me to research and great motivation. You are a great person for posting this as the information is scarse regarding this topic. At least for people not involved in the building industry.

We are not rich by any means but we are looking to part ways with the traditional methods of buying something that is just too much of an investment for a realistic families needs. It has been tough not having the capital to secure a property. I am a veteran and my family and I have not been able to buy a home yet. It’s been 11 yrs and we are still trying. Great video. I hope and pray we can find a home/ property to call our own. God Bless 😊

I hope I can steer you in the right direction here Mello, First, check out all of the video links in the description. They offer tips and updates on where one can search. There are many different options available. Also, are you able and willing to relocate. Don't be afraid to adventure out and search for something that is suitable for your needs and wants. It may no be available in your local area, but there are gems out there awaiting to be found. My little brother just got blessed with a house for FREE. That's right. It all has to do with your relationships with folks and putting forth the effort. Best of luck. Let me know what you find.

Beautiful property! While I own now, about 20 years ago I was living in a cramped apartment. I glanced out the window one day next door (a duplex) and saw people moving out. The next day, I went to the county clerk's office to find out who owned the place and wrote them a letter. I figured I would save them the cost of a For Rent ad. It worked and we lived there 12 years before purchasing where we are now. The county clerk's office is such an overlooked resource!

Thanks for sharing your story on how you found this piece of land and made a purchase of it. I especially like how you reached out to all over the world to sell the toy tanks, etc. it’s great that you and your family were able to finally have a place to call home. Plus it helped you had strong body even though you had a heart attack and surgery. It quite a amazing adventure you and your family have been on.

@@pinemeadowshobbyfarmafruga8319 God bless you and thank you. I'm praying hard for God to give me direction and wisdom as to where to go. At the same time trying to Bloom where I am planted until He moves me. I used to ave a sweet little farm with goats and chickens and beautiful gardens. I lost my job from undiagnosed and untreated Lupus. I am fairly stable now and in disability. I have a savings account and now I just need a cheap tiny place with a little land. Lol.

Once you let go of having to live in a certain area or neighborhood or live a certain way aka traditional live for a mortgage life there are many options. You are winning because you adapted and did what it took to create a home.

There's a guy who sells shipping containers fully built with even the appliances heat and a.c. Included they're $36,000 for one. You have to get the foundation made for it to sit on & have all the water electric septic tank work done etc.

When we get closer to the time for us to buy our property, I will be sure to make sure my husband sees this video. He is a VERY "inside the box" sort of thinker. I think we will need to be looking "outside the box" to get what we will need. ;)
