    Raf seems like a solid collaborator. Not easy to find workers who are invested in the problem solving, working hard, and have so many skills to bring to the table. I hope as your business grows you have a long and fruitful partnership!

    This video has really helped me today. I've had a shit day, I had to phone an ambulance for my mother, she's having to stay in hospital overnight due to breathing difficulties. I'm also a full time carer for my disabled girl and I've just had an absolutely manic day. I haven't stopped since early this morning and I finally got to sit down around 2200 and I popped this video on and it just took my mind off everything for half an hour.
    Thank you.

      Take care of yourself. There are organization that help caretakers take a nap, shower, go grocery shopping, dentist appointments, etc. Burnout and ruined health can happen. Please look into this and I sincerely hope that your situation gets much better.

      The only problem is that Chris is great with his work but really slack with safety, if he wants to keep doing such a great job with all his senses and arms legs working 100% he needs to be much more savvy with his and his mate’s safety.

    Kris, a suggestion. It looks like the gauge in question is a liquid filled gauge and sometimes they build up a pressure inside and do not indicate the correct pressure. Pop the edge of the rubber plug and equalize the pressure to the surrounding pressure. I think you will see/hear air hiss out or get a little squire of light oil. I had the same problem earlier this year and thought the gauge was bad but read correctly after that little adjustment.

    • @spicymchaggis2601
      @spicymchaggis2601 2 роки тому +17

      Spot on. A gauge mounted vertically doesn’t need the rubber plug spiked, but a gauge laying flat or horizontal needs to be spiked to equalise

      The oil is only there for dampening the needle where the pressure is bouncing a bit. The oil should always be at atmosphere pressure.

      @@caterthun4853 Which is why you have to bleed them. They also need to have it done when in the normal temp range for the location as that also will affect them.

    • @steveofire56765
      @steveofire56765 2 роки тому +2

      Yeah, that too. Shipment by air or exposure to extreme Temps will mess with a glycerin filled if not vented. The nice ones have a twist valve to vent

    Re: pipe joiners, a trick that I learned while working adjacent to the water department of the council was to remove the internal shoulder of the joiner using a lathe. Allows you to slide the whole joiner on to one of the pipes, get the ends lined up and then slide it back to be centred over the gap. Good for pipe wrestling in a ditch.

Also what a high quality build and design on the water line and turbine house complete with stone patio and style appropriate door. CLASSY!Shame it’s out in the woods where it can’t get more admiration, lol. Can’t wait for the final turbine installation and sea trial.

    Alright Kris loved the video, love the hydro series and the rest. I work as a control and instrumentation engineer, I'm not a metrologist or telling you what to do, but if you're running a business in hydro it won't cost you much and set your mind at ease if you spend the cash and get your pressure meters etc calibrated once a year. You can give that as part of a certificate of conformity to your customers as well which is a win win and will make you look more 'professional'.
    There's an open source book you may be interested in that includes measurement called lessons in industrial instrumentation. It gives a good overview of measurement of different parameters like pressure and pitfalls to avoid I've found it useful throughout my career and would suggest it's worth a flick through.
    As other comments have mentioned you can figure out static/head pressures quite easily but with joins and Venturis etc you can be off. That book gives some good rules of thumb, your intuition is already strong though which is good.
    Keep the vids coming mate!

    When drilling rock for anchors, I would advise putting some cheap silicone sealant in the hole first to prevent the water ingress and splitting the rock during frost . It would be no harm to use some jointing lube on the plastic joints to make it easier to assemble the joints and reduce the risk of pinching the rubber glands . Best of luck with the business and the Landrover.

    for future reference if gauge is mounted on top of tube, it is less likely small particles can block any openings along with ait vent to remove any air! and I know compressed air should give same pressure but it doesn't help.. good work like it..

    We fit pipe from one point to another, rarely meeting in the middle without a special union or a 90º. It's way easier. If we have a plastic pipe that needs to be bent slightly or even a 90º we have electric hot blankets for plastic, hydraulic benders for steel that size. The gradual bends you're using are nice, along with using those large boulders for anchoring, sweeeet. I really like your intake device. Super nice job guys.

    As always Kris a most excellent video, you did exactly what I would have done and checked the gauge against a know system. Looking forward to seeing what the actual pressure is once you have a better more accurate and calibrated gauge and then really looking forward in seeing how you go about building the turbine. I would wait until you have at least 3 - 4 paid for installations under your belt and see what other improvement you come up with, before you rebuild your turbine enclosure and turbine on your own property. I have to ask is the top of the vent pipe covered so the leaves debris and bird poop cant hey into the system? I also assume its at a level down from the source where it will never overflow?

    Ratchet straps are good for pulling big pipe into locations and joint. Dynabolts it water may not last the distance, stainless steel is an option but either could also bust the rock. Chem-Set's make great alternate.

    Hi Kris i'm a big fan of your work and enjoy all your videos. I just came to think while watching you should create an elevated wooden pathway above the water pipe that way the pipe is protected from uv and you will have a nice and practical scenery

    You will not become rich, but you will be successful. This is the problem with the world. If there was more like you the world would be a better place

    Great video Kris. I wish your videos were at least 3 hours long, they are so Interesting and educational. I no longer watch the 💩 on TV, it’s only UA-cam for me. By the way, instead of using nuts and bolts to secure the water inlet screens, why don’t you just use a slightly thicker piece of stainless for the screen dividers and then tap them? You can use the thinner stainless for everything else to keep the price down but those strips would make it easier, no welding.
