      @G E T R E K T 905 well the first in hp was turned to ash, second obliviated and never left St mungos, third nearly ate snape and three children(died 4 years later) fourth was a death eater who got caught, fifth was dragged off into the forest by centaurs and after a couple years sent to Azkaban, sixth died and lastly the carrows presumably got locked up after the battle.

      @G E T R E K T 905 Lupin was forced to resign. The curse would presumably force each teacher into a situation where they have no choice but to vacate the position. So unless they get massively lucky (a better position elsewhere, getting married, etc), something that could force them out would have to be pretty devastating. And I doubt a curse would give someone a happy ending. So, outside of that, the next best case scenario is that the person resigns due to misconduct or shame. Any other outcome is likely to involve imprisonment, debilitation or death.

      @G E T R E K T 905 It's more than just the parents being angry. The bigotry against werewolves is extreme in the wizarding world. He could not have stayed in that post. If he had tried to stay, the escalation against him would have been rapid and undefendable. He was "forced" by circumstances, not (yet) by a particular person.

    Great video! I was wondering, why did Harry, an extremely good Seeker, never consider becoming a professional quidditch player? Never in the books, nor films has he even once entertained the thought of taking quidditch even more seriously. I think it's really odd. Moody asked Harry what he's good at, to which he clearly replied "the only thing I'm good at is quidditch" . He wasn't just an above average flier either - he got compliments from pretty much every single person to see him fly, including the one and only Viktor Krum. So why has he never thought of becoming a real quidditch player? Oliver Wood, who perhaps wasn't even as gifted as Harry, signed for a professional team after graduating from Hogwarts. Is it perhaps harder to sign for a team than it seems? Do you need to be trained from a young age to even stand a chance against pro quidditch players? How much do quidditch players even make? What does the life of a quidditch player look like? I really wonder what the quidditch scene is like

    • @PhilBagels
      @PhilBagels 4 роки тому +11

      If Dumbledore knew the whole time, that makes him quite stupid and irresponsible. Just as it would if he knew Lockhart was utterly incompetent the whole time. However, the pool of wizards available and willing to teach DADA was very limited, so he didn't have much of a choice. But still, hiring the dark lord himself, or someone from whom the students could learn nothing useful would still have been a very bad decision. Better to teach the class himself, or let Snape teach it, or not have a DADA teacher at all and save the money. Maybe spend it on some good DADA textbooks so the students could at least get some useful independent study. Maybe get the best 6th & 7th year DADA students to teach the 1st & 2nd year students. Any of these possibilities would have been better than hiring Voldy himself into the school, or Lockhart.
      The only conclusion one can draw is that either Dumbledore didn't actually know when he hired him, or Dumbledore is just an idiot.

      I don't think Dubledore is an idiot, therefore the only logical conclusion is that he didn't know Quirrell was posessed by Voldy, and he didn't know he wanted to steal the stone.

He was also very good at thinking on his feet and could often adapt his plans even if circumstances changed or new information came to light, usually without telling anyone his plans or the change, so it would seem like the adaptation was part of the original scheme.

    I don't think Dumbledore had many options for the Defense against DA job. Just a few months after the first book he gives the job to Lockhart. Yeah, this is what I've been saying for a long time. There just aren't that many wizards to choose from who are willing and available to teach DADA at Hogwarts. So Dumbledore has to take what he can get. If he knew that Quirrell was Voldy all along, and knew that Lockhart was a fraud all along, that makes Dumbledore extremely stupid and irresponsible. Likewise if he knew Moody was Crouch Jr. all along. (Obviously, the Ministry forced Umbridge on him, so that's not his fault.)
      It would seem to me very unethical for Dumbledore to use legilimency on every teacher he hires without their knowledge and consent.

      As for him knowing Voldy is possessing Quirrell - it's not stupid. He let Voldy think he successfully infiltrated Hogwarts, so by extension he knew Voldy would likely stay at Hogwarts for a pretty long time - allowing him to plan out a trap. And of course, since Voldy is arrogant, he'd drop his guard once he believed, that he managed to deceive the one wizard he feared - letting Dumbledore gather evidence.
      As for irresponsibility - well, from a principal's POV, I guess so. But Dumbledore isn't really a standard good guy. He looks at the bigger picture, if saving the wizarding world means the death of a few student, he'll let them die, rather than try to save everyone, when it's clearly impossible or at least improbable.

      As for the Aurors bit - again, Voldemort is stated to be one of the best users of mind magic IN THE WORLD, as well as one of the most powerful wizards in general. One Auror did find him in his forest hiding spot, guess what happened? He mind-raped her to the point, where he couldn't possess her afterwards, then killed her. He did that without a body or wand, just as a spirit. You saying, that Aurors are incompetent cuz they can't find Voldie is like saying an experienced martial artist is untalented, because they can't beat an undefeated MMA world champion. Also why the hell would Aurors even show up at Hogwarts? Or investigate one of thousands quirky wizards, like Quirell? The Ministry by that point pronounced Voldie dead and there was literally no proof, that'd warrant Quirrel's investigation.
      And yes, detection spells exist, guess what? Anti-detection spells exist too. Protective charms and shit. And why you even talking about the turban? Most people in the story wouldn't even know what a horcrux is, beyond maybe having read, that it's vile magic, much less know the way horcruxed wizards possess others, or what signs to watch out for. It's rare for anyone to succeed in creation of one and there's only one in-universe book that even details the process, it's a major taboo subject even compared to other dark arts.

The sorcerers stone only works on the living the extend life not ressurect it, voldy was already dead. And Dumbledoor didn't have the slightest inclination about horcruxes untill book 6... So...how in the hell does anyone in the first three books even fathom that voldemort is alive again when there is LITERALLY NOTHING in the potter verse that is known to anyone who matters, that could facilitate either his resurrection or his being anything more then a harmless ghost at most?! In short....Dumbledoor one of the most powerful wizards on earth should not have suspected quirrel was voldemort because all the rules of the potter verse according to dumbledoor state its absolutely impossible UNTIL he learns of the horcruxes from slughorn.

I know the students guessed that Quirrell had a fear of vampires, and had stuffed his turban full of garlic to stave them off, but I actually think that Voldemort smelled like garlic as an in-joke on Rowling's ex, who was Spanish, and Mediterranean cooking uses a lot of garlic. I know that she made fun of another old acquaintance she disliked when she created Gilderoy Lockhart, so, being a female, she took a poke at her ex and made Voldemort smell like garlic. But that's just a pet theory of mine. I may be totally wrong. (I know my Spanish father-in-law and my husband are fond of garlic. Not as fond as I am, being part Italian, but still...)
    Mmmmmm....garlic.....garlic on pizza....tapas....No, no, forget the garlic. I might have to apply at Hogwarts as a DADA teacher, since I need a job and I am good at hexes.

    Voldemort is known to have garlic breath

    I believe that Dumbledore knew SOMETHING was up with Quirrel since his Albania trip, and that he was likely working with Voldemort now, but didn't know that Quirrel was literally possessed by him. I think Dumbledore placed a bit too much stock in his reputation as being the one man Voldemort feared to suspect that a weakened Tom Riddle would dare return to the castle. If he noticed Quirrels new skill at Occlumency, I suspect there are numerous enchanted objects that could provide similar protection against mental intrusion and it would not be out of character for a somewhat paranoid Defense teacher to have one or more such items on his person at all times after all. I also think that Dumbledore's one weakness was that he always saw the best in people and endeavored to give everyone as many chances as he possibly could, whether or not they necessarily deserved them.

    I was just thinking about this last night before I went to sleep. I thought, "if Quirrel had Voldemort on the back of his head, how did Dumbledore not know for an entire year?".
    Also, we don't get nearly enough information on Quirrel as we do the rest of the DATDA professors in the series.

      Ok, Well When you look in the mirror of Erised and you want the stone but not use it, you'll get it and that's how harry got it.

    • @channelgyarados
      @channelgyarados 4 роки тому

      ok i’m not saying your wrong that is what the mirror of erised is capable of but try to explain why hagrid got it in gringotts and wasn’t seen again in that moment. Rewatch these moments and you’ll understand where i’m getting at. Gringotts and erised when it was in his pocket the wole time! I hope harry potter theory has a theory of that! like did the sorcerer’s stone magically showed up in his pocket when hagrid kept it or did someone put it in his pocket? and the mirror of erised showed it was there when it was there.

    • @channelgyarados
      @channelgyarados 4 роки тому

      RTX damnphoenix i get where your getting at, but it’s not about wanting the stone you have to desire it seen by professor quirrel he desired it for harry he desired his parents. Do you remember what ron and dumbledore said to harry, rewatch that moment and you’ll understand the difference between desiring and wanting.

    Percy did mention in the 1st movie when Harry asked who the man next to Quirrel was that Snape was after Quirrell's job for years tho. So just saying that it was NOT Quirrill's 1st year as the dark arts teacher. It seemed worth mentioning.
