I’ve watched a bunch of your videos and gotta say extremely well done across the board. Fair comments for and against, insightful observations and a production style that I like. Great work!
we were there last month after 3 or 4 years ..... alas , no way it was that flavorful as you described...... 1 noodle from me ... perhaps i went on the wrong day. we didnt like the chili ..hard to convince us to return based on the recent adventure..... we enjoyed that chicken rice stall in the same coffee shop though.
you think this is 3 noodles worth in the current ver.? you will be shocked if u ate the 5 yrs ago ver. before 2018. back then Terrance still put his secret sauce (fish sauce) that gives this very distinct flavour no other hk mee in sg have. i dare say it can make the dish 7 noddle worth. yes it was THAT GOOD back then. aft 2019 he start to not put it anymore for whatever reason and the standard has been dropping ever since. not as consistent alr. the noddle texture also sometimes off one, the ingredients also nt as fresh nw.... regular patrons of years will know wd im talking bout..
No, at $4.50 it is not too little. It is cheap. The inflation nowadays force hawlers to cut corners. This hawker is rare. Almost every other hawker stall exclude one or more of these essential ingredients - stock, lime, egg, taugeh, pork rinds (chu yu cha), noodles, thick beehoon, prawns, squid (sotong), pork belly slices, chives (ku cai), sambal chilli. For $4.50, this hawker included ALL of these.
I agree. but, I would have liked to see is a $6/8/10 menu where the portions are gonna be reasonable. I think there's no point giving a $4.50 option when it's so small, no matter how good it is, any first-timer is going to be left unsatisfied. but yeah, like I said in the video, I don't have a business background so I'm not sure which menu earns them more money. just a personal preference.
Agree that the portion is too damn small thus I stopped patronizing.. very much rather walk to chomp chomp for Ah hock hokkien mee for the 古早味 hokkien mee!!!
My opinion is most likely unpopular and I may even get flamed. But to be brutally honest, it’s not just this particular video, but for all UA-cam videos that feature Xiao Di, I’m not sure if the respective video creator’s taste buds are just different. But of all the commonly featured local Hokkien Mee, Xiao Di is literally my bottom 3. I just find that it’s severely overrated. And no, it’s not a one off thing, I actually visited it 3 times, and they are equally bad. The stock flavour is minimal at best, with close to no wok hei at all. But oh well…
Yo Alderic it would be my utmost pleasure if you could try out Red Stove Fried Prawn Mee (#01-20), at 69 Geylang Bahru, ecstatic to hear your take on it. ☺
it seems to me that hokkien mee is really hard to balance. Too weak of flavor and it is lacking in power. Too strong and it is jelak. Other dish like chicken rice seems easier to balance between fragrance and jelakness
sorry to hear that man. but I cannot help it when hawkers close early or not open at all even though it says they're open on google. I face the problem myself when I go down for shoots.
Worst hokkien mee i had ever tried in my entire life! It's just like a plate of wet vomit with weird taste! This kind of standard charge until $4.50 per plate somemore. I would rather eat instant noodles at home.
Thanks
thank you!

thank you! I appreciate the comment.
first timer mistake of ordering small portion, imo xiao di has the most flavourful hokkien mee in sg
I think you should buy 1 to eat and 1 to go portion
or buy all to go portions since the flavour is intensified after getting to go portions
Try Hainan Hokkien Mee (golden mile hawker centre, imo best in the dry category), Simon Rd HKM (Toa Payoh Lor 8 market), You Fu HKM (golden mile)

the chicken rice from the same coffee shop is cheap but definitely not good. probably one of the worst chicken rice i ever had in my life
interesting. I can understand if people don't like it but it's flavor is definitely on the strong side. maybe you caught them on a bad day.
the standard 4-5yrs ago cant even compare to today's... terrance tired alr lah time to retire
dat chicken rice is DA bomb tho!!same consistency since forever. the longest queue in the whole coffee shop. it used to be xiao di but nt anymore
same here, the people I went with were not hard to please too and didnt get the hype.
Alderic, the word u are looking for is infused? 😊
I think the term for "gravy tight" you were referring to is called emulsifying.
Alderic, at this point in time, you have given me a ton of awesome places in SG I need to visit to satisfy my hunger. Thank you!
glad I could help!

Yes, i like Xiao Di hokkien mee. Long q during lunch time. Come Daily has the similar taste. Prawnaholics is also same.
surely best anot?
Great video as usual, liked! Will be sure to try this stall out 😊

Just found you channel and enjoying your videos greatly, keep it up!
thank you!
already got me hungry, will be noting this one down to try for sure! i trust alderic's 3* rating :D
Pls try “Come Daily” Hokkien Mee if you haven’t!! @ 127 Lor 1 Toa Payoh!!
I don't think he will go to the obvious one haha
Bro did anyone tell you look like the skinnier version of the sumo guy playing Enno/Oze in Sanctuary?
finally you tried something that i deemed as the goat of hokkien mee
HPB is happy the portion isn't too big 🤣
Jialat, now have to queue 1hr after your review video 😂
haha no worries, I don't have that kind of impact.
First bite in I know it’s gonna be three stars🔥
Can try Chuan Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee
Agree that the portion is too damn small thus I stopped patronizing.. very much rather walk to chomp chomp for Ah hock hokkien mee for the 古早味 hokkien mee!!!
This hokkien mee is easily top 3. Portions are small but just order a second if one is not enough.
try simon road hokkien mee(specify dry hokkien mee) and hainan hokkien mee( golden mile hawker centre)
I believe you want to say the flavor is locked into the noodles? I now have many places to go for food :D
in a way yes. I meant to say that the starch is gelatinized well and that locks the otherwise watery gravy onto the noodles.
@@Alderic. i think you're looking for 'cling' or 'coat'
When is your birthday
Bro, gravy not tight 😂 the consistency is thiccc
Best biriyani in Singapore next please
Roast Pork series plss~
xiao di is nice but the small portion is not that filling even for a small eater like me
brother come whampoa la walaoooo

Pass.... because it's too TASTY...I can't eat food that's too good😅😂😢😅
Xiao Ti and his helper were so super-arrogant and terribly rude!!! His food is full of Ajinomoto!
Yo Alderic it would be my utmost pleasure if you could try out Red Stove Fried Prawn Mee (#01-20), at 69 Geylang Bahru, ecstatic to hear your take on it. ☺
Not good ah, I tried my first time there last month. Google reviews also not good.
@@xxslysinxx yea just wanted to hear his take on it, I like Alderic's commentative stance, he is superb in his description. 👍🏻
@@samzhi3234 Yeah, but this is a series on "The Best Hokkien Mee in Singapore" not "The Most Mid Hokkien Mee in Singapore"
Red Stove is over-rated
maybe the biz model for 4.50 (small portions) is to make customers buy 2 plates of hokkien mee instead
Many old people don't eat much and always ask for less.
how do you afford this food ur bank balance built like kenny
👍💜👍💜👍
it seems to me that hokkien mee is really hard to balance. Too weak of flavor and it is lacking in power. Too strong and it is jelak.

FLFC

da bao better for this stall
it is decent for sure, but the best? No way.
Portion wise … Expensive …
So damn smol I could eat 3 plates
It’s not a small size….it’s a review size….😂
review size is a great way to put it.
go fight xi guay ong's hkm
this two guy too arrogant.
free also don't want to eat.
will never eat there.
in Singapore alots better than their.
Your English sounds a little odd. Maybe you need to work on it.
can you try Eng Ho hokkien mee at ang mo kio, ex-NOC ryan said its one of the best on his new channel!
It’s quite long q at times
Went there at 2.45pm today, a Friday, but they had begun closing for the day. I wish reviewers would not give misleading facts. Wasted my time.
