Cambodia has come a long way since its civil war was officially ended in 1998. I left the country in 1979 but most of my family members did not survive the horrific genocide there. My first returned trip was in 2000 tried to search for my surviving relatives. Most of the main highways and infrastructure were still in ruins. It took us about 12 hours from Phnom Penh to Siemreap as the road was damaged and most of the bridges were destroyed. Fortunately, I was able to locate my sole surviving sister who currently still lives in Phnom Penh. Only memories live on and it seems just like yesterday. Enjoy your trip and have a great time in Siemreap. Peace ✌️
Thank you for sharing your story. It is heartbreaking to hear what you and your family went through, but also inspiring that you found your sister after so many years. Cambodia’s history shows how strong its people are. Wishing you and your family peace and happiness. ❤️
