They have to (and I’m sure they are) simultaneously working on a new engine that has this kind of quality of life . They have to at one point sunset the old engine that’s at this point very restrictive, it will probably come together with a level squish and a new Story arc start (a new starting point for players). When? My Copium is 8.0 but let’s be real is probably gonna be by 10.0 or after.
And wasting all the time and effort to do the "updates" we got with Dawntrail? Nah, DT was the perfect moment to start anew like 2.0 and they didn't. SE could make a ton of money by making official mod tools for hair, weapon, facial features, armor, and animations. Run it like an app shop at a decent price. SE gets a small cut, modders get majority, and a possible pathway into the company if certain mods get popular enough. SE wins with money, Modders get paid, customers get a lot more choices for customizing their characters more. Expand to themes, settings, emotes, ect. This way PC, PS, and Xbox folks get options. Honestly kind of amazed they haven’t done something like this already.
The mobile has the benefit of not working with FFXIV's archaic Crystal Tools + early Luminous engine Frankenstein. Also mobile has the hindsight of 10 years of what could have been done better and they likely were getting input from the FFXIV team on what they would have done if they had the knowledge they do now.
FF14 team need to shut down the game for at least half a year to fix all the game's problems and update it to modern standards. I can believe we are 11 years in and we still got one of the most basic character creations in MMO with the same options and templates since the game launched.
So, kinda crazy cope here, but there's a couple things Yoship has said in interviews not too far apart from each other. He's stated that he wants to make one new MMO from the ground up before he dies. But he's also stated that FFXIV is his lifes work, and he's going to work on it until he dies. The ONLY way he could do both, is if he made a new FFXIV from the ground up. Realistically, he's had the team work on two FFXIV's at the same time in the past before under worse circumstances with less manpower and resources. Additionally, they don't have a strict deadline and it could take longer over time.
they either have to fix the game or make a video explaining why it's impossible/too hard to fix it. no one's gonna take them serious if a mobile version has better features
They already did numerous times and the excuse was "technological debt." This concept isn't new or unknown and in fact expected. It makes sense any tech project will incur technological debt to get the project out in time. Tech and gaming companies do it all the time, Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft are examples of companies that have utilized technological debt to get the ball rolling on their projects/products and the hope is to fix the problems later. FFXIV started with a lot of it in 2.0 because it was a rush salvage job when Japan didn't have the knowhow of how to build modern MMOs at the time. A lot of basic things expected in a MMO were pretty new to most Japanese developers on the team and Yoshi P brought some of those new ideas to the game due to his experience with playing all sorts of MMOs. The thing is that most companies, once the project is out, dedicate people into untangling bad code, undo bad practices, and update and streamline. However, the team at FFXIV didn't really start tackling the technological debt until around late ShB (which was impacted by the pandemic) and EW, hence the slowed down content cadence. Beforehand, the team were making workaround their constrained engine (using now two defunt in-house engines), which also creates problems when untangling or trying to fix the foundational issues. But by that point the large technological debt they started with ballooned into a massive one and is almost insurmountable. There are still some devs on the team chipping away at it as seen with small fixes in EW and DT patch notes but it is like trying to finish a payment on a student loan that has a high interest rate. Additionally, the team size has expanded but it is still relatively small for such a large and successful MMO which compounds the problem of technological debt.
I feel like at this point, YoshiP should hand FF14 off to someone on the team he trusts and start work on a new MMO. Then we'd know if FF14 is holding YoshiP back, or if he's holding the game back.
'yes please' to a new ff mmo. ff xi started in 2002, ffxiv started 8 years later in 2010 so i'd say we're due for a new mmo now that we've reached 14 years of xiv. 'maybe' to yoship spearheading development. took him 3 expansions to greenlight fixing living dead and 5 expansions to fix blacklists? i'd want someone who gets us stuff we're asking for quite quickly if not right away, and gives us as much content as they can every patch cycle that doesn't fade away into obscurity as time goes on. i'd especially want someone who doesn't give us stuff like role play quests where you're forced to play as an NPC character with neutered skillsets. also there's the whole bit where the majority of content is locked behind story progression making it harder for friends to catch up and play with you... man the more i think about it, the more heavily i'm leaning in favor of someone else developing the next ff mmo. whatever strict and stubborn vision yoship has for mmos should stay in ffxiv.
It is hilarious how short-sighted SE is when it comes to cosmetic mods. They could make bank if they did something like "custom-animation" mods for your character to make them stand out more. Heck let's even ante that up. Custom Animation Mods you can unlock through Cash Shop. Achievements. Find in content. Bam you just created a new avenue of character expression.
Im really curious as to how they'll handle msq. I cant imagine doing msq on my phone with all those lines of dialogue and endless cutscenes. lol Mobile gaming is supposed to be in and out.
Lmao I stopped after endwalker story cause they clear was just gonna have yoshi p keep lying about the game after years. But the mobile game is infinitely better than the original 😂😂😂😂it’s laughable. Keep spending that money in the cash shop
Yeah, I really wish that Mobile would change up the story after Shadowbringers, or more accurately, KEEP the original story and not rugpull and retcon everything since Yoshi P's mad it wasn't his story getting all the praise
seems i might actuallly drop my sub for actual FFXIV PC after playing it off and on since 1.0 and 2.0 and then permanently staying after SHB till now. i have an otg usb hub anyways i use for my phone to play other games and i can even hook it up to my PC monitor and play it as if its steamdeck or switch... shame that mobile version is feeling alot better than the real actual version
considering ff14 it's pratically then only thing making money for SE since the rest of their releases were garbage or failed to make a good profit they can't put the game down for months
...the rest of there releases made money... they just didn't MEET SE CRAZY ASS EXPECTATIONS... They sold 3 to 4 million of both rebirth and 16 unless both games cost more than 200mill to make ( which I doubt since rebirth is a lot of access from remake andn16 used the same team as 14....they saved a ton of money) now they lost on shit line Babylon fall and avengers. But they just mad it didn't sell 10 to 20 million copies
@aaronclay4665 Modern AAA games can cost absurd amounts of money, not to mention the cost of marketing on top of that. FF16 and Revirth failed hard compared to FF15, a game that came out over a decade ago and sold twice as much as both FF16 and Rebirth combined. Having them be console exclusives was a massive fuckup that quite literally robbed SE of millions upon millions of dollars through their own stupidity and incompetence. If you haven't noticed, the game industry is completely fucked which is why the only companies that survive will be ones with live service games. That live service game for SE is FF14 and they are sinking it through incompetence and bad management.
If this game has ANY kind of success on mobile then it will become the 'actual game' and retail FFXIV will be sunsetted... Strangely I'm not really hearing much concern about this being the replacement for the current FFXIV. People are acting like it's just some little side project! This is the future guys..! Oh well. Also, does Xenos EVER stop eating in his videos?!? 🤯🤣
that walking/running during combat animation is clean, props to the guys that did it

Yeah! I think it's time for a change. He may have saved FF14. But stagnation is starting to set in after all them years.
does xeno have any videos where he isn't eating?
I don't think so
He always does ract when he eats, so he is always eating
It is hilarious how short-sighted SE is when it comes to cosmetic mods. They could make bank if they did something like "custom-animation" mods for your character to make them stand out more. Heck let's even ante that up.
Custom Animation Mods you can unlock through
Cash Shop.
Achievements.
Find in content.
Bam you just created a new avenue of character expression.
nobody ask for this shit..
Given how the slow updates and lack of content for 14 has been.. now the direction of this... WHHHHY
Because the mobile market is huge. And it's a whole different team working on it. So it's not taking away from the main game.
I'd be cool with the shutting down the game for three months to overhaul things that need to get fixed and improved. A whole patch cycle.
Im really curious as to how they'll handle msq. I cant imagine doing msq on my phone with all those lines of dialogue and endless cutscenes. lol Mobile gaming is supposed to be in and out.
Also isc if ppl can use mods for glamorous, but, they should and have to fix cuz of.the ppl who don't want to mod and the console
Shutdown the game for weeks? months? It would take YEARS, and we know what will happen with that much of content drought
UPLOAD IT, NOT ILLIGAL, YOU CAN HACK IT TOO! WHERE ARE ANY HACKER NOW, IT'S NOT SIN ,YOU FOOOOL!!!
seems i might actuallly drop my sub for actual FFXIV PC after playing it off and on since 1.0 and 2.0 and then permanently staying after SHB till now.
i have an otg usb hub anyways i use for my phone to play other games and i can even hook it up to my PC monitor and play it as if its steamdeck or switch...
shame that mobile version is feeling alot better than the real actual version
How mucb will it cost monthly whats the gotcha
considering ff14 it's pratically then only thing making money for SE since the rest of their releases were garbage or failed to make a good profit they can't put the game down for months
...the rest of there releases made money... they just didn't MEET SE CRAZY ASS EXPECTATIONS...
@@Ryies12 XV had over a decade worth of hype and troubled development behind it too.
wow an in game voice chat for a mobile game!!!! ff 14 on console and pc should be ashamed.
5:02 Mobile game where you chill?... Have you seen the Genshit InTrash community? Mobile also has CoD and League.
Sadly i think it would take way more than a few weeks to fix the spaghetti code.
Okay, but is FFXIV mobile BALDER? I think not.
"try to emulate hair"
lmaooooo
Who asked for mobile shit, they should work on and fix the crap in actual game instead.
Yeah, the real mobile version of this game is on PC handheld consoles
It's being developed by a separate company. Square is hands off with this.
It's simple as money
if you have to ask "who asked for this" you obviously arnt the market
mobile has no positionals PC sucks
Ugh it looks so shitty.
So fast!!!
everything is fast when you have grandma reflexes.
Hmm, nah, it's a hard pass for me. I was dozing off watching this game play.
Well, it's far better than retail. Retail ver is shit AF. SE needs to overhaul the retail ASAP, otherwise it's a garbage for modern standard.
Tardbait
