Someone should interview a former grader cgc/ cbcs, to find out how they really do their job. All of the inside dirt …. That would be really interesting
If the grader had a fight with his wife or hungover by being so depressed he makes shit money grading to his metrics of xxx books a day= bad grade. Grader who just got laid, won the lotto, his team won the championship = 9.8! Boom......
I've only relatively recently gotten "into" slabbed comics. As a very light collector with a limited budget, I have usually just picked up cheap books that appealed to me in some fashion. Several years ago I started familiarizing myself with grading and found the onlinegradingtool to be very helpful. It's not an end-all for establishing grades but it was very helpful to me in slowing me down and making sure I attended to the details of grading. It's nowhere as comprehensive as the CGC guide but it does identify 32, or so, book defects with variations on severity and made me look at things like page quality and degrees of scuffing and color lift, and extent of color-breaks and creases. Again, not the best guide, but for familiarizing myself with the vast plethora of minutiae it couldn't have been more helpful, in my opinion. What a gift you're giving to the community. Your generosity and enthusiasm coupled with your intelligent presentation (my wife and I think you're pretty durn smart) are a delight. Thanks for this and the absolute banger of a Whatnot show coming up. Holy hell. Take good care. Happy holidays to you and yours and the staff at Bry's.
Great video. I appreciate the emphasis on steps 1, 2, and 3 before immediately judging the defects. I have seen a lot of videos that just start talking about the defects and hearing you emphasize those others as first steps helps me see how they are critical
Thank you for providing great content man! This really helps when looking / grading books. I forward to seeing your follow up videos. I have been teetering on sending my X-men 266s to be graded as I’ve never done it and not sure what to expect! Again, thanks for the great content! Much appreciated!
Thank you for the video. Grading comics is one of the most difficult aspects of collecting. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge and the examples you show.
Thanks for the info and thanks for specifying that there is a CGC grading guidebook and that they don't use the Overstreet guide, I was about to buy the wrong one!
Absolutely loving the videos! Just a ton of great information. Definitely going to pick up a copy of the CGC guide to grading comics I have an overstreet guide but it doesn't seem to be as detailed as the CGC guide.
This video was extremely fascinating and a complete eye opener. Soon as I get home from work, I'm going to "Grade" my 'Secret Wars II' set, note it down, clean and press & then submit. And see how close or better I can get it.
This has been very helpful. In Step 3, it says "missing coupon maxes out at a 6.0 blue label unless it gets the qualified designation"...Is there a way to specifically request that blue label without getting the dreaded green qualified label for a high grade copy with a missing MVS?
Hey Bry! Thank you for another very informative video. I'm about to send in ten books to CGC. This video helped a lot and gave me some real oversight when deciding to get books graded. I'm excited to dive right in, been collecting most of my life. I found some key issues when going through my collection in great condition. I know it's a long process but I believe it's totally worth it. Thank you again! You are a very kind and generous person to give away some great books. Keep it up man I enjoy your content!
My dad was/is a big marvel fan, so he has hundreds of silver age comics. They’re all in pretty rough condition (haven’t gotten any of em graded, but they’re all probably around a 2 lol), but I love being able to go through and read them! My favorites are probably fantastic four #48 (ofc) and silver surfer #4 (the cover is so cool).
Alright I may need to get that book.. I’m glad it’s been so well received from what I’ve seen. I wasn’t sure on it at first. Also you’re crazy for giving away 50 slabs!😳😂 I can’t wait to see how many people you get in the room!
Wow 😲 very enlightening video, great content and step by step instrumental on what to look for in grading books. Excellent. And yes in certain years such as a 50's book compared to a 70's book may look different because if I'm right some companies when putting out their books didn't use or have a gloss for their books, they just printed out the books as is . Gonna look at my books more thoroughly now. So I guess you'll be Santa Bry on December 21 at What Not huh 😂. Great video Bry. Take care.
I collect comics from the 60s I go by the color of the cover staples spine etc the smell of the comics vg vinegar fn little upper grades none and don't forget the people who professional grade them might look at it differently
Excellent video Bry! Am I wrong in thinking that at one time CGC had three graders assign a grade to each book and then take an average of the three for the final grade? 🤔
Good info as always, still I find it frustrating how the value jumps exponentially from a 9.6 to a 9.8 due to the subjectivity. A 9.6 can be 9.8 on another day.
Great video! Would love to see you grade a set of raw books of varying grades using the CGC guide’s standards and then compare your grades to those of CGC in an unboxing. It would be fun and educational, especially since you tend to be spot on or really close when you have compared your grading notes to the CGC grades at an unboxing.

Hell of a breakdown, man. Some of the most thorough, non-BS, in-depth info on grading i've see on the youtubes. Many thanks,

Thank you so much my friend! You’ve got me thinking about creating an app to help grade 🤔
@@BrysComics would be amazing
Always great to hear how the pros break down grading. Thanks
Great video. I appreciate the emphasis on steps 1, 2, and 3 before immediately judging the defects. I have seen a lot of videos that just start talking about the defects and hearing you emphasize those others as first steps helps me see how they are critical
Wow, my dude. I've seen 100 similar videos from other channels and yours is by far the most comprehensive and effective. 🏆
Thanks brotha!
Thanks for the insight on grading....been collecting for 20 years and haven't seen anything as informative as this.
Very detailed! Appreciate that you put this together. Will refer to it in the future.
Very thorough, detailed, and precise. Glad I happened across this one.
class is in session ! thank you so much !
Honestly very well put. Bry, does an amazing job explaining comics period!
Thank you for providing great content man! This really helps when looking / grading books. I forward to seeing your follow up videos.

Another insightful video. Will keep these in mind for sure.
The narrowing method is interesting. Explains a lot!
Great video, loved the information, really interesting to hear about the different ways they decide grades
Brilliant video, thank you for making these! Incredibly informative and insightful.
Definitely a good video for quick visual grading. Thanks Bry!
Awesome that you’re giving back like that!!
Another excellent and informative video. I might have to pick up one of the CGC Guides.
Amazing job Bry. Very thorough and informative. Thank you
very helpful, very valuable content... now to the playlist! Thanks
Grab some popcorn! Lol
Thanks for the video, very informative. I’m just now getting to the point where I want to grade some of my books and this info is helpful.
Super helpful my brother. Your channel has got me on beast mode watching them! Great content!
Thank you!
Been collecting books for years and just now becoming interested in sending comics for grading. Thanks for the info.
I've been grading for years and still found this helpful. I should be more systematic in my grading. Thanks!
👍💯
Great explanation for grading. This helps bring what seems subjective to becoming more objective. Nicely done.

Extremely educational video. 👍 Congratulations Bryan! 👏Keep up the excellent content!
Lot a info to take in, will need to purchase the CGC guide
This book seems like it might be worth picking up. Thanks for this great overview
Superb presentation. Thanks man!
Thanks, I really appreciated this video. I learned a lot.
Love this! Thank you!
Great content buddy! Very informative.
Keep up the great work Bry
Thanks for this very informative video. Very educational.
Great content as always Bry! Learned a lot.
This video was extremely fascinating and a complete eye opener. Soon as I get home from work, I'm going to "Grade" my 'Secret Wars II' set, note it down, clean and press & then submit. And see how close or better I can get it.
Nice!
cant wait for your whatnot show!
Liked Informative video on our hobby.

Yep, just a simple post it note on the book should do it
Very informative, thanks!
Really enjoyed the video. Good stuff.
Great video Bry! I now have to revisit my CPR candidate.
This is so important to learn.
very insightful, thanks
That book is a great book. Thanks for the informative video
I recently got back Batman #22 white pages from cgc I was pretty happy

Thank you so much Benj and good luck with your sub!
Thanks for the advice Bry. I'm planning on getting a copy of that grading book from CGC also.
Informative, as always!
Good info man thanks 🙏
Thank you for the informative video.
Helpful. Thanks!
Always informative!

Do you think it’s harder to judge if a modern book is gonna be a 9.8 or what mid grade (3.0-7.5) a golden or silver age book will be?
9.8’s are the easiest to grade because you can only have a couple defects…mid grade has tons of nuance
That announcement sounds like fun
I will try to be there on what not for your show
Thanks for the info.
Appreciate your knowledge 🙏..thanks for your help.👍
Awesome information as always
Very timely. I'm about to send comics into CGC for the first time. Thanks
Finally UA-camr takes time out to teach us how to grade 👍👍
Do you think a date stamp or store stamp affects the grade?
Only if it’s large and in an annoying place
Know how to make a good grade assessment that will give you a better experience with grading overall
This can be so frustrating. But it’s so interesting and worth honing the grading skills
Thanks again for the video
Thanks for the info
Great show on Whatnot! I can't believe there were three double winners.
Love the silver age X-Men. Good luck everyone.
Thanks for a very informative video. I’ve received the CGC grading book but I’m not allowed to open it until Christmas. Won’t be long now.
😂
Great video Bry 😎
Thanks very informative 👏 would love to see the cgc grading nuances that separates a 9.8 from a 9.6.
I have a separate video on that 👍
It would be nice to win that slab this month Bry. Have a great day.
Is the CGC book still available anywhere? I can’t find a copy to buy
Alright I may need to get that book.. I’m glad it’s been so well received from what I’ve seen. I wasn’t sure on it at first.

I even got a Santa hat 😜

Good vid Bry I’m not in2 slabbing my books but it’s gd 2 learn 2 grade raw books 2 take care bro
Thanks for this. I'm pretty new at this. I'm going to have to watch this a few times. Lol
This video is cool, and wow great giveaways.
great info
Excellent video Bry! Am I wrong in thinking that at one time CGC had three graders assign a grade to each book and then take an average of the three for the final grade? 🤔
It used to be 3 professionals evaluated the book now it’s 2…
Good info as always, still I find it frustrating how the value jumps exponentially from a 9.6 to a 9.8 due to the subjectivity. A 9.6 can be 9.8 on another day.
It is definitely frustrating but the game we are forced to play…
Nice! Good tips!
great informative video
See you on 12/21!
Once it’s sealed page quality matters very little to me
That’s an interesting point!

Holy giveaways batman!!!
Love this!
Awesome video
Apparently, I've grading my comics too harshly for the past 35 years. Good to know.
Your the man!
Great content. Thanks
Always good info.
