No ads, no merch, no sponsors. No Patreon. Mustie-1 doesn't even ask for "hit the thumbs up" or subscriptions. Great personal integrity. I've been a fan for years, this is the first time leaving a comment.

He'd be better off buying a second hand one a few years old. The ex rental ones go pretty cheap once a new model comes out because everyone wants the latest ones to rent.

I just realised that I've probably watched ~50 engine teardowns on YT and I don't remember ever seeing anyone showing the full reassembly process, most times they show the teardown then skip onto everything being back together again. This was incredibly interesting and educational, cheers Mustie.

I don't think it is going to work to deliver twice the HP though. Maybe 30hp combined if they are both 20hp motors.

In the late '90s Dixie Chopper made a zero turn lawn mower with two Kohler 20Hp twins tied together with belts running to an over-running clutch that drove the main belt driving the mower. I don't remember the model number but it was a 72" cut and would handle just about anything you could throw at it. When those engine RPMs were synched together it had a great exhaust note, similar to a twin airplane.

Musti, Growing up in a very rural area several of my friends and I had go karts. They were home built, not racing and nothing fancy. Just fun to ride around on our dirt roads. One day a neighbor a few years younger asked me if I'd help him learn to rebuild a small engine. So, we found a couple of 3hp Briggs and we went thru the steps on both engines at the same time. When we were done, we didn't know what to do with them because our go karts all had 5hp and who'd want to go down to a 3hp? Then I got the idea to do like you did and connect them and put them on my go kart. I pulled the crankshafts out and took them to school and drilled and tapped one and threaded the outside of the other. So they simply screwed together to make the connection. Then I tied both engines together at the cylinder head bolts and bolted them to my go kart. I made a common intake manifold out of copper water pipe and a steel plate to bolt a 6hp Briggs updraft carb to. My neighbor was a plumber and he offered me a torch and something he called Fonsen (sp?) to use instead of solder. Fonsen was stronger than solder and melted at a higher temp, but did not require red hot like brazing. In the end it worked very well. It was funny how some of the neighbor adults told me how important it was to have them synchronized in some way. They told me the two engines were fighting each other the way I had it. I really never caught on to what they were saying because I knew from personal experience that my go kart was A LOT FASTER w/ the two 3hp engines than it was with the single 5hp. My go kart was quick from the start and it went at least as fast as the 5hp engine pushed it. And it sounded neat too. I made no attempt to synchronize them and it sounded like a Harley. Thanks for jogging my memory. ben/ michigan

A suggestion for the set screws on the coupler. Drill a little into the shaft where the set screws are so that they have something to grip in other than just a pressure fit against the shaft . Maybe even drill and tap them bigger so they are a little more rugged . The twin engines is cool. Can't wait to see what you are putting them in

I would be a little concerned about cooling however. The "front" engine dumps its hot air right towards the intake of the other engine, which might make it get a little too hot. Maybe a little baffling when it gets installed would help.

Thank you Mustie. Brilliant video. Was not sure how it would work but much better than expected.

There is a guy who did about the same thing at one of the engine shows, he set his up at I think 90 degrees out so it has a F1-R2-F3-R4 firing order. Sounds pretty neat and runs very smooth. His uses a double row chain coupler and shortened crankshaft and is powering a Cub Cadet chassis that he uses as a butt buggy

@@ohespeh At many of the engine/tractor shows you are not supposed to bring golf carts or scooter type machines to ride around on. The way around that is to build a "butt buggy". Take a garden tractor, tiller or similar and add a second seat or connect up a trailer and now you have a "show legal" way to ride around the show and not have to walk. I have seen garden tractors, walk behind tractors (with a sulky) and hundreds of variants of them built.

Great video, I cant wait to see how this develops. Are you thinking of rigging up a manifold to just run a single carb for both engines or will you be trying to control both carbs at the same time?

New concept for industrial engines, old motor joined engines were called siamese.

There are these double roller chain coupler things. 1 sprocket on each engine, and chain connects them, allows for a little bit of misalignment but should be a lot stronger than the rubber.

might be good idea to pair both oil sensor wire.

They would have to be in series, so if either opened (due to low oil), then both engines would stop. A good idea though.
