I’m the boy in the backseat. Scott Curtis. Thank you for posting this. This commercial was innovative. It used special high speed cameras which were so loud that we couldn’t use any of the sound that was filmed. But the result of the high frame rate was clarity like never seen before. It was meant for movie theaters.
@@Teamcurtisbjjso sorry for the late reply! Just saw it! I want ti say his name was Robby Reese or Breese I just can’t remember! He used to talk about being neighbors to a child actor Scott Curtis.
I did craft service on this! It was my very first job in Hollywood. It was shot at GMT Studios in Culver City as an industrial for that year's Chevy dealer convention to introduce them to the Corsica (except for the last part of the car driving off which we shot out in the desert somewhere). I had a flat top at the time so Doug Trumball had me sit in an old-school Chevy convertible that was floating around once the aliens "collected" the Corsica (naturally you can't see me). We dubbed the people who moved those big jaggedy things encircling the Corsica once it's on the UFO "blade runners." Mark Stetson from Boss worked on it, as did Matt Yuricich and Joe Viskocil did the physical FX. Thania St. John who went on to become a big TV writer was our production coordinator. And I made sure they had all the M & M's they could eat!
I think i recognize that desert from the opening, since it resembles the same road used for the opening scenes of the Genesis pilot episode of Quantum Leap (where Al cavorts with a woman before he learns that Sam has stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator prematurely due to pressure from funding groups). as for Viskocil's work, i'm very familiar with the work he did for The Terminator (i.e. the scene with the exploding tanker truck after Sarah plants a pipe bomb into the truck's exhaust pipe).
Seriously... these 70's, 80's and 90's commercials in full HD is pure magic. We seriously need to have every single commercial ever made have the same treatment. Love 'em! ^^
The idea that this commercial even existed is amazing. Where else have you seen a two-and-a-half-minute commercial from the late '80s for a car, let alone one that is executed like a cheesy and campy sci-fi movie from the late '50s? I can't believe someone at GM thought that this was their best idea.
This commercial has been sampled for various tv shows over the last two decades. I knew the production value was too high for it to be some generic stock footage. Im so happy to finally see the entire ad. Thankyou for uploading it
I loved it when this ad showed before a movie I was seeing. It was a real treat to catch it. Loved the winking Dinah Shore clone. I remember it being a big deal her returning to plug Chevrolet again.
I'm from 1997, and I love this and older vehicles, my cousin has a 1991 Corsica LT in great shape for it's age, and because of him, I want one more than ever before and am seriously looking for one.
I owned a 1989 LTZ with the 2.8 V6 and it was so reliable and fun to drive. And so cheap to buy and maintain. The brakes only lasted 20k, with spirited driving. I now have a 2017 XTS and it has more luxury, but it reminds me of the LTZ's seat of the pants driving thrill.
So I have an early 1987 build Corsica long story short I took it to a car show and displayed a still from this commercial I never thought I would see it again! Thanks for the upload!!!
Most of the people who've worked on previous films at EEG's Boss Film Studios unit in Los Angeles, California with successful credits such as Blade Runner, Brainstorm, Ghostbusters, 2010, Fright Night, Poltergeist 2, Big Trouble in Little China, Predator among others for a Chevrolet Corsica Alien Commercial from 1987 featuring many talents including Dinah Shore.
The darkest thing is, they cloned the people too & the clones live eternity inside a time bubble. But, I guess they're happy based on the wink from the old lady.
I cant say I recall ever seeing this during the 80s, but it is in keeping with the whole science fiction E.T/Aliens obsession. Albeit somewhat creepy even for Chevrolet standards🤨
Screaming Mad George worked on the aliens in this commercial. He mentions it in his & Steve Wang's audio commentary track for the new 4K UHD/Blu-Ray of their film "The Guyver"
So the cars and people were cloned. This means that a version of this family didn't get to go home. What must it be like for the people traped in the cloned cars?
I was thinking the same thing, what about the cloned human beings inside, they now float in a constellation of GM built cars this alien race collects. Every so often another newer car appears with occupants because they are all abducted from this desert road. Do they yell to each other asking what year it is as they pass in their bubbles? Or can they even hear anything outside their bubbles?
Naminski If you wonder see cars inside the bubble in 1:22, this is because the aliens cloning on every cars and trucks from Chevrolet for over 75 years , including Camaro Z28, Corvette, and S-10 Blazer.
Jonathan Froes, I want to do 1986/1987 AMC Feature Presentation in 35mm! It featured real celebrities, and I presume the guy who designed and directed the 1986/87 AMC Feature Presentation trailer will be identified soon.
Because he’s been working on a very large project for over 2 years to be finished and so he’s doesn’t have time to do 35MM uploads anymore. FT Depot is taking over from now on.
What a bizarre commercial! Unfortunately 4 GM the biggest and only collectors of the Chevy Corsica where rental car lots LOL. Talk about a totally forgotten car.
Does anyone remember the alien commercial where an older couple are surrounded by ships out on a farm and the couple lock themselves inside until all the ships fly away? The twist to the commercial was that the aliens were there to reclaim one of their own: the man's wife. The commercial ends with the wife in the kitchen and her back to her husband and she has whites for eyes.
But what of the people jnside the 'cloned' vehicles? Are they sentient? Because if they are, then the look on Dinah Shore's face means she's been driven insane with years of merely existing in a bubble.....
