We were rebellious and we expressed ourselves through music and dancing. Self expression and creativity were everywhere. It resulted in the most incredible music ever heard. It just expanded from there. It was an amazing time to grow up. I miss those days.
You want to understand Janis? Just watch them all dance towards the end. Her presence is twice the size of everyone else around her. She looks like a character out of a scooby doo episode. And I mean that in the best way possible. It’s freaking surreal.
***** I'm sorry but to me they sound typical of the singers these days - too deliberate and self conscious with a tendency to go for soaring vocals at the expense of real emotion. that's just my personal opinion, I'm sure others disagree. Thanks for the suggestions though.
Janis and I used to sip plum wine together in the office at the Family Dog on the Great Highway back in 1969. I moved to Marin in '70, and used to party at her house up the canyon in Larkspur. I have a poem she wrote where the last line is "After I got what I wanted, found out it cost me my mind." Prophetic. We were all stunned and deeply moved at her passing, but she got into hard drugs, just like Michael Bloomfield. I still miss them both.
Who knows? The whole poem, maybe. My address book from those days is filled with names of SF musicians that went on to become famous, as well as other characters. But back then, it was laid back, casual, and nobody had made it big - yet.

This was I time for the music industry when women could be free to be raw from the soul and do whatever the f their heart desired. It didn't require the cookie cutter "perfect" nose and jawline, 30-80 cosmetic procedures, didn't require their clothes to be off to be recognized and taken seriously.... Because they didn't have to sacrifice their identity to Big Brother records lifetime contract, binding them to ride along the conveyor belt, factory modified plastic parts, taking out their raw genuine hearts and cycling out - rebranded as the world's next temporary singing sex doll, based off some Hollywood execs vision of her. That is the most absolute Soul deadening piece of crap that it should be only listen to in the presence of a Suicide Hotline counselor
I'm a 92 baby but thoroughly enjoy music from every decade and genre
@@mavecolby7562 this music is incredible. You must not be a musician

I'm not a professional football player either.... But if a wide receiver is missing passes all the time while complaining, well to me he sucks.... Janet Joplin is not singing she's yelling and that's coming from a critic not a musician
2020 and listening to this!

Hi there.. how are you doing? Happy new year.. 🎊🎈 in good health..
I can't believe anyone would say anything negative about Janis. She remains the ultimate ROCK GODDESS... decades after her death!! No one compares to her, absolutely no one, not even close!!
As a group of Catholic school boys in the 60s we used to get together on a Saturday night and sing our hearts out to her music, especially this one.
Is that where those guys are from?
They're so rocking it!!!
A lotta BS talk about 60s being so full of Love though - bc the people who thought they were "cool" put down Janis for her lack of "feminine beauty"... And Great Talents like Karen Carpenter and John Denver went over the edge when audience decided "no longer cool"
**Younger Folks today way more inclusive and tolerant -- I hope they get their chance to fix the mess those phony boomers made**
(I'm a Boomer-I speak from experience
Thats awesome...she really did share alot w the world...I miss those days ! !
As a girl in a Catholic school right now, I still belt this song out with all my heart.
@@Ella-hg4cq Good to hear, good luck with your career. I have done very well in life and hope to rock with Janis up there.
To you and to Ella , wow , just wow. Big hug to you both.
Wasn't born when she was around but she is still my favorite artist. Her voice takes my brain to a whole other place of reality. And it heals my soul. *Edit* this woman draws me in everytime I see her!
I was born in the 90's and I love performer like hers
She sings your soul’s words. 🌺
That's a beautiful way to think about it.
@@crystalroser6327 maybe it was the acid I dropped when I was younger, not really sure but when I hear her voice my brain switches gears and goes to some other place. And all that I know about that place is that I feel safe and protected from everything that is wrong in the world.
Such a Healing Experience just listening to her Music♡♡
She was just fucking great...
Very much so. She's an inspiration to just express singing to the fullest especially back in those days. Elvis Presely too, he was definite show man.
Still login you

She sure was Travis.
formidable morceau.
intemporel et qui vous transporte.
Just pure talent..........simply amazing! Unfortunately, there will never be another Janis Joplin.
Back when audience members could come on stage and rock with her.
Lol, you should go to a 200 Stab Wounds show. People are all over the stage running around and flipping off it and trying to sing into the mic at the chorus it's hilarious
She is HIGH as a kite LOL that girl she brought on stage was like why she bring me up here LOL
Janis took drugs before performing just to feel closer connection to her music
Exactly my thoughts!
@@love999cats and that makes it okay?
Ya she rollin
1:49 when janis joplin invites you to jump on the stage but you are in the middle of a bad trip

Lol that's true hahaha
Also 2:30 .... that dude in white shirt at left is killing it with the swing, shaking tha booty in style :D Damn.... this clip deserves an academic study.

I can't get over this performance. I'm obsessed 😍.
As a 22 year old male who discovered her from my father she is an amazing artist and will always be one of my favourites
Yeah, males would Be inspired by females❤

Listen to blind melon.
The best an worst that the world can offer on one stage. Janis Joplin and dancing Germans
+Super Sonic They don't look anything like the German "counter culture kids" of the 60ies either. That's because they weren't - she was performing to a mainstream TV show audience there.
homosapien brother
homosapiens
Actually many of the "kids" on stage are American GI's, station in Germany.
Regarding independence of origin - trust me - it's still the measure in Germany. We really can't remember where the idea was coming from. Any idea?
Wow, she was only 25 here. She looks so mature. I love her raspy voice.
Drugs.
Pug ugly. But what a voice.
chowder125 heroine does that.
Brividi...mamma mia che spettacolo
Damn she looks 50
Wish she was here to see how many people STILL love her music
Drugs may have taken her life, but not being able to deal with reality killed her. I will always have her in my heart. She never knew how great she was.....

Matt ferrill sure did
Norma Trimble I agree

Is she dead?? So sorry to hear that.... rip Janis
LJG I think they mean she took Heroin because she literally just couldn’t handle real life. Obviously Heroin killed her.
To me Janis Joplin is one bad ass woman. A legend gone way too soon.
Real as sunshine n rain
Fascinating to look back on the culture of this time period
From the funky clothes people wore to the way they danced
It all just seems so liberating.
We were free and not woke, loving each other
We were free and not woke loving each other
We were free man it was the best time on the planet no problems no worries just peace that's my time and a time I would gladly jump back into any day!!
We were rebellious and we expressed ourselves through music and dancing. Self expression and creativity were everywhere. It resulted in the most incredible music ever heard. It just expanded from there. It was an amazing time to grow up. I miss those days.
"Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose"
You want to understand Janis? Just watch them all dance towards the end. Her presence is twice the size of everyone else around her. She looks like a character out of a scooby doo episode. And I mean that in the best way possible. It’s freaking surreal.
could u imagine someone like Cheryl cole getting so into the music like this!! Janis is too cool for todays 'singers'
+seco ndo Today's singers sound like foghorns. The only one who had any soul was Amy Winehouse and she's gone.
***** I'm sorry but to me they sound typical of the singers these days - too deliberate and self conscious with a tendency to go for soaring vocals at the expense of real emotion. that's just my personal opinion, I'm sure others disagree. Thanks for the suggestions though.
+dot no way you can pull off ''soaring'' vocals with no emotion. unless you're an opera singer that is
juancho94 perhaps I should have said powerhouse vocals.ever heard of Cher?
heard a couple tunes, anyone in particular?
Janis and I used to sip plum wine together in the office at the Family Dog on the Great Highway back in 1969. I moved to Marin in '70, and used to party at her house up the canyon in Larkspur. I have a poem she wrote where the last line is "After I got what I wanted, found out it cost me my mind." Prophetic. We were all stunned and deeply moved at her passing, but she got into hard drugs, just like Michael Bloomfield. I still miss them both.
Judith Neeley that line she wrote must be worth a fortune right about now lol
Who knows? The whole poem, maybe. My address book from those days is filled with names of SF musicians that went on to become famous, as well as other characters. But back then, it was laid back, casual, and nobody had made it big - yet.
Judith, many Grace Vanderwaal fans think Grace is Janis under control. What do you think, since you knew her? ua-cam.com/video/QZLSkrWtUSE/v-deo.html a little something
Hmm, interesting to ponder. I'm not up on Grace, so I cannot comment. I'll watch an give some thought.
Grace Vanderwaal Austin City Limits, Oct 7th 2017 is 49 min video you should watch. That Courtney girl is more of an act to get attention right now but she's another one to watch out for
Yep she would be a fashion icon these days beside being a cool gran lmao
Hi Patricia.. how are you doing? Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year in advance!!
Hahaha if you look at Janis Joplin photos on instagram people who don't know she is dead are asking her to do fashion collaborations to this day for them and there companies (Seriously)
I wish that guy in the white shirt at 2:20 was my dad

God Janis was the fukkin best!!! I would've lost my damn mind she would've had me on stage w her!! Rock in peace Janis ☝
was the best what? white blues singer? she only got recognized in those days because white folks was desperate for real glory.
Man the reason people love this era of music in my opinion is because the artist had a real authentic connection with their audience. Janis was definitely in a lane of her own 🙌🏼❤
I like how the Mormon missionary is compelled to dance with Janis.
lol. Mormon missionary it is.
Mormons have good taste in music too

Any discussion of "performance art" begins and ends with Janis. Sometimes she's literally screeching, but she draws you in and holds you. Magnificent.
your right she was screeching through out the song had to turn down the volume while listening to the song.
That screech gets my blood rushing! Yeah! There! Too bad she trashed herself along with Jimmy to "manteca". But I gotta say that glass blowing voice! Total Dakine!~like Morrison and Hendrix's.
Only two items on this menu! Are we clear! Don't make her buck,!
No body could do it like Janis! She was a rock icon! I really loved her music, especially Cry Baby and this one!

Sex sells easy and cheap, heart and soul just don't fit that Hollywood vision for women. Janis will be remembered as a historical role model that we can look up to in modern day and know that soul DOES sell...it is the only thing that is remembered for future generations.
That's why I love Janice. She has no issue with the Morman dude rocking in half way through and dancing like donald duck
