In this video I go over the how's and why's of the custom flatbed build on my 2003 Toyota tundra, and the choices I made in its fabrication and current design.
Functional and great looking . Nicely done Sir . I have the 02 Tundra . But yours is nothing like mine . Best of luck ! Thank you for showing this viseo .
Looks awesome, good job! Would love to see more views of it from the side and from a little farther away. Could you also say what the difference in overall weight is versus stock?
Really neat work here. I’m picking up a f250 super duty and might incorporate some inspiration form this build. I have a dent on the bed I’m getting so I might just rip it out and build something similar as il be using truck mostly for off-road rig hauling.
Appreciate the comment. I really have no regrets with the flatbed. Even though I built it 50/50 looks/utility, it's so dang useful. Good luck with your build!
@@JHBtheIVYou did an awesome job and this design really soothes my liking. I don’t see myself needing my XL long bed, and it looks wack imo. I plan to do this and then one day convert my 05 nose to the newer 9-15 grill/nose design for looks haha.
At 13:15 there is enough room under the wood to make a hidden compartment/box. I would put some hinges on the wood and a small handle or something like that to make it hinge up and have access to extra storage.
Thank you! I couldn’t give you an accurate price, since I used quite a bit of leftover steel from other projects. I actually butt welded smaller lengths together to make longer ones in some spots, since I hate wasting any steel. If I was buying everything new, I’d estimate around $400-500 in metal, including tabs and tie downs.
Thanks! Hard to give a price, because I used a lot of scrap and remnants to build it. If I had to guess it would probably be $400-500 in materials if you had to buy it new. That's a total guess though.
I pulled the leaf pack apart and let the main leaf sit flat. I clearanced the bed for 34’s, so it rubs now that I have 35’s. I need to redo bump stops (running none right now) and probably modify the bed rails
I have an 01 and the besides are rusted out around the wheel well, there's more rust forming around the rear bumper on the fenders. it's like $2k to get 2 new fenders from toyota which is the only ones that sell panels. I know guys did a dodge dakota fender well repair but when the rest of the thing is rotting out its just not worth it. So it's gonna be a flat deck for me on my tundra even though guys have told me it would be useless which is not true. I've out grown the bed already with alot of stuff so making like a 7ft long flatdeck would be perfect for my truck
Flatbed is certainly not useless. Quite the opposite. Even my shortened, narrowed, off road version is incredibly useful. I use it daily for work, camping, etc.
You did a great job on that. Looks very solid and usable. I'm hoping to do a similar build one day on my 2011 GMC Sierra. Do you have instagram? I tried to follow you on the account on your UA-cam but it doesn't work.
Hey. I fabricate everything on the fly, from my head, so I don't actually have any plans. A couple folks have asked about how I built it though, so I may pull the floor off and make a quick video to show how it's built/mounted, just to give a visual. It's a real simple design.
Dude this so badass, i have a silverado crew cab with a rusty bed thats dieing for something like this, mad props
@@speedhybridz Hey, thank you very much. Good luck with your build!
Works for me. I have the same truck in Massachusetts. I'm definitely using some of your ideas. Starting my build very soon!
Heck yes, get after it. Im sure it will turn out awesome!

Appreciate the kind words!
Thank you so much for posting this video. I am wanting to do something close to what you did. It looks amazing!!
Thank you for the complement. 🙏
Good luck with your build!
Nice Job! Good looking Tundra.
Thank you sir. 🙏
This whole rig is perfect!
Hey, thanks! It’s a great little truck.
Looks awesome, good job! Would love to see more views of it from the side and from a little farther away. Could you also say what the difference in overall weight is versus stock?
Will do. I’ll film a short when I get a chance with a better side view.
As far as the weight, I assume you mean the weight of the flatbed? I’m not sure, but it is definitely lighter than the factory bed.
Awesome thanks, I have 2006 DC and would like to do something like this
DC’s look very cool with flatbeds in my opinion. 👍

Good eye. Currently I’m working on mounting a hidden rear winch in that area.
Looks incredible! I didnt catch it in the video. What wall thickness did you use on the 2x2 and 2x4 square tube?
Hey, thank you! All of the tubing is .125 wall if I remember correctly.
Love this... good job
Hey, thank you. I appreciate the comment.
Looks mint. Im oing to try to make one for my dakota. What was the price of all the steel? I know sheets are pricey. Im gunna plan on wood like yours

How much did that cost you ? Nice job. I want to build one for my 2001 f250

Hi from Canada love your flatbed. Do you think you can show some drawings just simple on the paper be appreciated.
Hi there. Unfortunately I dont have any drawings to share, I just figured it out as I went. That’s the way I build most stuff, sorry.
How’d you decide hight? How’d you figure out how high you articulation

This thing is rad!

Sick !
Very nice.
What specie of wood did you use?
Thanks! Just used pressure treated pine. It’s not too expensive, so easy to replace if needed. It’s held up well so far.
What type of spacers did you use for the frame
universal body lift spacers i got off ebay
Do you have any pictures of the frame without the wooden floor?
I don’t, sorry. If I have to take it apart anytime soon, I’ll make a quick video of the frame.
Can we get link to lights

Are those wheels 16 or 17
17
did you use square tube for the outline or angle iron
Square for the outer frame, headache rack, and cross members, angle for the pieces that support the wood floor.
Question you changed the rear differential right I can’t find the one u have what else would u recommend?
What size tires you intend on running?
You did a great job on that. Looks very solid and usable. I'm hoping to do a similar build one day on my 2011 GMC Sierra. Do you have instagram? I tried to follow you on the account on your UA-cam but it doesn't work.
Thank you! UA-cam is my only social media. I don’t use anything else anymore.
I seen a dude use a HF 4wheeler ramp as the aluminum bed
Those have too many holes and bumps for me, but if I could find some solid ramps, that’s not a bad idea.
Hey I’m looking to do something almost identical on my 2002 sr5 4x4, I was wondering if I could send you some money for the plans/dimensions

@@JHBtheIV no worries man! I totally feel that, and any future videos will be much appreciated! Thanks for replying dude the rig looks wickedly dope
Dont that roof rack make wind noise. ?
Never noticed any extra noise after I installed it.
