      Would you be willing to make a custom size for the ring setter ? I need a 86.5 mm if you are willing to make :)

      @@GS_Twan Use a roll of tape like I mentioned in the video. Glue roll of tape to some plexiglass with a knob on it. Same thing.

    Good video, do like the 3-D printed tool idea, saves from any accidental piston damage from using the piston to square the rings.

    Very satisfying and soothing to watch. Like watching a mechanical gourmet chef, each step is so important to the meal at the end.

    Awesome, glad you shown the paper that shows how to set the rings..
    Everyone else has a their own theory on what clock position to set the top and bottom rings etc..
    Thanks for sharing! I have been looking for something exactly like this!
    It appears you have Gen 4 rods!
    My motor is an 05 (my lm7 came from the electric hybrid truck) and I took a peak and whew what a good feeling to know what rods are in the block!

    Great video. I think I figure out why my piston is so tight in the cylinder. Going to measure the gap and file if needed. Thankyou.

    I have build a few engine's but had never heard about this before.

    Made the mistake of cutting off a bit of that middle oil ring. We put in on the piston groove and didn't want it to overlap and decided to cut it, machine shop didn't understand why I did it but thankfully am going to get another set and slap them in before I put the engine all back together. Glad someone told me about this before I assembled the engine and put it back into my truck at least.

    It's usually good practice to have the 2nd ring .002" larger than the top. But I guess every manufacturer is different. I only use Wiseco professional pistons and GFX rings. Good video tho definitely help others in their build

    Please help, I'm supercharging a 440cc 4 stroke engine and it's going to roughly put out 9 or 10 pounds of boost. How much ring gap should I pull maybe 20 thousand or 15?

    • @HTMR
      @HTMR  3 роки тому

      Use the formula I show in the video. It is based off bore diameter. Also ring mfg will play a role.

      @@HTMR Alright thanks bro, I will do some calculations and some more research on this topic. I never knew this was a thing but it makes complete sense when you imagine a boosted engine running on higher temp and compression. Thanks for the help.

    Why would the hypereutectic pistons have a larger ring gap than the forged/cast, I thought one of the benefits of a hyper piston was how themally stabile its dimension are?
