Nice. I just started doing orchestral stuff this week and was hoping there'd be a feature where I could look at different midi tracks all at once. I know this video is from 2013, but I still found it useful. Thanks!

Excellent. One eventually finds a good good channel for every DAW and this is a good one.

Its only now that I have to write an orchestral piece with (too) many tracks that I took the time to learn this. This could have saved me so much time! Thanks

Do you also have a video on recording Midi in Reaper, different recording modes (loop recording and so on)?

You can diable mousewheel movements from moving the volume faders by going here:
    Options > Preferences > Editing Behavior > Mouse >
    "Ignore mousewheel on all faders"

Hi, thanks for the great vid. I've been struggling with midi editing in Reaper with mainly two problems.
    1) I don't understand the duplicate action in the midi editor. It works fine in the arrange view, but it duplicates elsewhere, but not right next to the midi note.
    2) I can't open the instrument window in the midi editor as full screen.
I've been googling and researched for many days but wasn't able to find any clear answer. It will be great if you make a video for this.

nice tutorial, can you please tell me what the "modulation cc" does? I have tryed it in reaper with session strings and I did not hear any difference

    • @anonagain
      @anonagain 6 років тому

the cc means continuous controller. If your sound source is set to route cc values to modulation, you can use the controller to do things like sweep a filter, or volume, etc. Here's a list of standard controller numbers: nickfever.com/music/midi-cc-list
      Hope that helps.

Hi, is it possible to manually add midi notes to multiple tracks at a time? It seems you're only able to edit the already existing midi notes for multiple tracks.

Is there a way to custom color the midi data?
    Example:
    Yellow- Violin 1
    Purple- Violin 2
    Red- Violas
    Blue- Cello
    Green- Bass

On the bottom bar where you can set your grid and note length, you'll see a drop down called "Color", choose "Track" from the options. Then on your Track grid on the upper right hand corner you can double click on the colour squares to change each track's colour.

    Great tutorial!
I noticed that within a track, your media items are named with the bar number in which they start. Is there a way to do that by default in Reaper? Right now all my MIDI items are named "Untitled MIDI item" by default and I'd like it to be something more useful. Thanks!
