Things sure have changed in my 60 years! Thanks Andy, for all you do for the modelling community in general and certainly those of us that are spoiled living here in Arizona.
Just shipped to me, can't wait to try it😊
Timely video. Just bought a tin.
Great video, I love your store!
Nice video Andy! 👍👍
This masking putty is an absolute game changer! I picked up my can of "Panzer Putty" several years ago and use it on nearly every project. I appreciate you releasing it under your own brand now Andy!
I've never used these types of masking putties, I'm assuming Panzer Putty would have a similar composition to Andy's product.
So my question is how does temperature affect the putty? Is it stiffer in cold temperatures and softer in high temperatures? With the putty's properties of settling onto the surface when you leave it, and it flows over the surface, I'd assume it would flow faster if it is used in a warmer environment, so probably doesn't need to be left as long to settle. So does it have a 'best temperature' conditions to use it under?
@@peterbrown3608 I had the SAME Question... though I do not live in such temp extremes, I would like to spray in morning or late afternoon (cold / warm-hot weather).
@@peterbrown3608 I believe that Panzer Putty was the first release of a masking putty. A modeling friend told me about the product and I ran into a vendor at the IPMS-USA Nationals who had some (this was in 2015). While temperature has some minimal impact on the putty, time effects it far more. Over time the putty will "slump", essentially drooping from the model. This is really noticeable if you leave it overnight. While the model and underlying paint are perfectly safe, the putty can become comingled with anything it runs onto. I sometimes use foam earplugs in wheel wells when they are a different color than the underside, and the putty really becomes one with the foam if left too long (I learned this the hard way). Hopefully this helps!
I have my model room inside, so the temperature year round is around 70 (F). If it is summer and warmer, the putty stretches more, so I pull some putty up from the can and cut off pieces using scissors to minimize strings. As Andy demonstrated, the putty becomes one mass back in the can.
This putty looks awesome to use, and will make detail painting a breeze. Great product!
Hey Andy this product Looks like a more advanced version of "Silly Putty". Anybody remember watchjng those Ads on TV? I think I will is if silly putty works like this putty. As always Andy another Great Vid. Look forward to the next one. Well Folks as for me Over and Out.
Just got some silly putty from the local hobby lobby and it is a lot stiffer than I remember. It doesn’t really flow into the surface very quickly but it can be worked into position and is dirt cheap
Got the AK stuff. This looks to be just as good and half the price!
Its just Dimethyl Siloxane reacted with borax aka "silly putty". Use whatever is the cheapest for you, its not gonna matter much.
I got mine directly from Andy himself (I am lucky to live in Arizona). Great product.
Interesting. Never knew it existed until now. Now that has spiked my interest and future ideas.
Amazing! I tried blue tac but not happy with the rersult. That product does the job and it really gives a sharp edge if you let it settle for a while!
I just used it and it's GREAT. So much easier than all other techniques. Thank you for making that available!
p.s.: Any issues with reusing it with paint traces on it?
Hello Andy, very nice product, I need to order some, thank you for your dedication.
In Other Words Black " Silly " Putty 🤗🤗 Thanks For Sharing Andy n God Bless 🤗 Gary.
That's what I use, Silly Putty. It works well and is cheap.
I also sculpt and use Monster Clay. Works.
I've used this stuff for years...think putty is what I was buying. There are many different brands of it...great stuff! Works great for figures and everything...
Congratulations for getting more private lable A.H.H. merch. 👍
LOOOOOVE masking putty! When my mig goes bad ill get a few of these.
I have never tried this stuff but i will have to get some from my local model shop im just wandering when you are going to do a nother diorama
Hi Andy that was a excellent product review of your camo putty, if you were closer I would buy some, good luck with your latest product, bedt regards from Australia 👍👍👍👍
Andy, when will you announce your new 1/16 kits? It’s so great you are making products for the market and I can’t wait to purchase your next kit!
Very soon!
@@AndysHobbyHeadquartersExxxcellentt!
Just checked on the price ..good lord!
How can I build models with my eyes poked out?
Can only mask small areas at a time, it starts flowing as soon as you put it on the model (not real fast though). Otherwise works great
That looks like a really handy product
Hey Andy, I was wondering what type of compressor you are using in this video? Also, love the new products keep them coming!
It's a purified crude oil so it will change the colour of your kits
so does the paint you sprayed onto the putty affect the putty at all?
So how soon should you let it sit before you peel it off after spraying?
Will it make copies of the funny papers? Is it available in an egg?lol Great video Andy, keep em coming I'll keep watching.
Don't be silly.
I see what you did there
Don’t get it stuck in the carpet unless you want your dad to yell at you. ;)
@@rrrayrrray I am a victim of that anger
Will it work with all types of paints?
Just got mine last week. I cannot wait to use it on my BF109.
Looking forward to seeing you at Nats 2023!
Great product.
Does it eventually get clogged with paint overspray and become ineffective?
Wait a minute, I did the same thing with silly putty in the 60's but I could transfer newspaper comics as well. If you ball it up will it bounce????
Just ordered mine.
I haven’t used this product. But I have I used other masking putty’s. I love them. I have found putty to be superior to tape. I have also used silly putty and cmamaflague putty is superior
What about the paint you already painted on, will it stick to that???
Great product.
Just bought 2!
Fantastic Product 👍
Sounds like an interesting product. I use blue tack in a similar way. How many times can you use it before it get filled with to much paint?
The real beauty of this product is that the overspray it captures just melts away, so my 8 year old putty still looks as good as the day I purchased it. It will do this on its own in the can over time, or you can speed up the process by kneading the putty before placing it back in the can. I have used my putty with acrylics, enamels, and lacquer paints, and all dissolve the same in the putty. While the putty dissolves paint, I have never had an issue with it damaging the paint it is protecting or the plastic of a kit even when left in place for more than a day.
Gidday Andy when is it available in your eu site?
These are good products, but you have to paint your model within a few minutes of applying or the putty will flow too much. I've seen pics of it dripping off cannon barrels. For this reason, I use Tac and similar putties.
I tried using it over gloss paint and it doesn't stick at all. It literally fell off if it wasn't horizontal
Exactly this... You barely have time to mask a 1/35 tank hull with a basic 'wiggly' camo pattern, and squirt some Vallejo Model Air into the airbrush, before the putty is levelling out all over the surface of your model beyond the pattern you want, or dripping off the edges. It really is a case of quickly does it... I might try putting a tin of putty in the fridge for 1hr before use, just so it isn't quite so warm and fluid. It is worth a test, just to have a more comfortable window for a/ masking and b/ spraying.
"Dripping off"???? I've been using this stuff for over five years and have NEVER seen or had that happen. Unless your room is well over a 100+ degrees maybe. You can make a ball out of this stuff and set on your desk and it takes a good few hours before it is completely flattened out.
Best to paint the model in sections when using the masking putty.
Is it in stock? I’ve been trying to find some AK masking putty and everyone out. If it’s cheaper and in stock I’m getting some cause I have a model on hold waiting on this stuff.
Yes we have it in stock.
@@AndysHobbyHeadquarters found it! Definitely getting some!
Andy, will the paint be absorbed into the putty?
Same question....when using to mask and it gets some paint on it as you spray, does that degrade the use of the putty over time?
I have a can of MRP putty for 5 years now and it’s still as fresh as the day I bought it. It absorbs paint beautifully.
If this is just Silly Putty dyed black, and I'm confident it is, then I can tell you paint will be absorbed into the compound. Traditional yellow Silly Putty darkens a bit, but I've never had old colors bleed onto a new model surface.
Andy, thank you
Great stuff!
Thanks for sharing
Looks like a fantastic product! Can it be shipped to Canada?
Andy does ship to Canada. I'm in Ontario, and have ordered stuff from AHH. Quick shipping too.
@@georgecoventry8441 thanks !
Made by ammo by mig? - think they make one
What happens to the overspray that gets on the putty? Do you end up with a multi coloured blob or does it somehow fall off?
Nothing really. I have had this stuff for over 5 yrs, bought two tins and still have only used one of them, it's had paint on it many a times and it remains black.
It leaves residue that discolors flat paint, it flows too fast so no vertical use and only small areas at a time on relatively flat surfaces, if you use it on a surface with glued on detail it will most likely pull that detail off. I just used it on the top of a B1bis french tank and it's almost impossible to get off, i tried to get it off right after I cleaned my airbrush and I'm still not done a hour later, don't recommend
I use silly putty. Much, much cheaper. 😀
@darkwood777... wow! I bought two "eggs" of Silly Putty for $1.49 each and have plenty to mask a fairly large model.
@@Chilly_Billy silly putty is weirdly expensive in subhuman nations
日本でも買えるのかな?
I looked into it but being in Canada it costs $40US to ship an 80 gram product worth $13US. So $53 US or about $70 Canadian. Far too rich for my blood. I'll stivk to masking tape.
🐈
Censor much?
Panzer Putty???
AKA, Silly Putty
This ain’t silly putty….the Ammo/AK stuff is Theraputty. That’s all this stuff is.
Theraputty is Silly Putty with added hardening agents. I asked my Physical Therapist about it after a hand fracture and she said my question wasn't the first time someone had asked. So she had looked it up and learned the truth. Same compound from the same manufacturer, just with an added something to make the varying grades of Theraputty
Definitely NOT a liquid!
Amorphous solid.
@darkwood777 Definitely NOT a liquid. Liquids are basically incompressible. This substance can be compressed. It’s behavior is analogous to that of an amorphous solid. Glass unless melted is not a liquid.
@darkwood777haha glass is definitely not a liquid 😂
silly putty ..just as good and half the price
Just to warn people. These types of black stick masks have a limited lifetime. After a few years they start release a black sticky liquid which will damage your paint job. Before that they are quite good.
Any idea how long they last +/-?
You don’t really need this product if you can airbrush properly 🙄
I apologize for all of us who don't have your surgeon-like skills with an airbrush. We bow to your clear superiority.
🙄
@@Chilly_Billy Just paint pressure and distance from model.
Andy, sorry mate but every man and his horse has got a masking putty out.youre at least the 5th brand that I know of who has brought a masking puy out,
For example,Green stuff world,AK,Mig,MRP
Don't forget the original! Silly Putty! 😀😁😋
yep Im offering another choice at a better price.
