Solstice and Sky owner here. I ordered a very early production 2006 Solstice 5 speed, then traded it in when I ordered a 2009 Sky Redline ruby red se. I've owned a lot of very special cars (including my current Viper), but these two Kappas remain among my favorite. The special relationship the owners of these cars had with the employees at Wilmington who built them was wonderful. I do own a copy of your Solstice book as well! You guys did a great job building these cars. Heartbreaking that GM had to kill BOTH Pontiac and Saturn, and took these killer cars with them so soon. Thank you for sharing this video.
11 years after production ended and it's still a great looking car. GM should have rebranded it and continued production. One can only imagine the year to year improvements that could have been made.
Bought one on the last day on the last hour of the marque, closing the deal at 11:58PM. I've owned and driven a lot of cars in my life. Hands down, this was the finest automobile I have had the pleasure of owning and driving. Circumstances saw me and her part some years ago, but when I can afford a "toy" I intend to pick up another one. LOVED that car.
Fantastic video...thanks so much for sharing it! I am the proud owner of a red 2008 gxp convertible. When I ordered it I told the dealer to option it out with everything offered....so glad I did. It has been garaged and has never been on wet roads or out in the rain....currently has just over 2800 miles on it. I love my Solstice!
I know for a fact that it ended up at a dealership in Mckinney or Frisco Texas! After tracking it, I called the dealership asking if they had a silver solstice base model. They said it just arrived but were not sure if it was the last one. I told them to lift the hood and see if they saw any signatures in or around the engine bay. They said yes! There ya go! It really is sad to see what was an iconic brand of the 50-70's die off with a simple, silver roadster designed to keep Pontiac competitive with its Japanese rivals. I sincerely hope the automotive world watches this and remembers that in between the plastic, gm (and Pontiac) made good cars, even if they were ahead of their time...

Its amazing that this was 12 years ago. It is really a part of history, its pretty cool to step back in time to that last assembly of the Solstice. Fantastic work guys the poniac legacy will go on forever.
The people in Willmington really cared about the Kappas. Never should have let my '07 GXP go. But I replaced it with an '08 GXP last spring. These guys built both of them. Thanks for your hard work.
The base vs. GXP are almost 2 separate cars when viewed from performance. The base looks the part, while the GXP is the part and has even more after a couple cheap mods. Same can be said about the Sky vs. Sky Redline. The Sky is more modern look. I love the looks of the Solstice as it more of an old school roadster look. I might be biased though as there is a black GXP in my garage with the mods. :)

Anyone who has played with electric motors knows they can rev themselves into oblivion. It's time to have some real fun with electric cars because they will soon be our only cars.
The problem with electric cars is that they don't have enough range to go on a trip, they take 4 hours to charge up the batteries, and they lack sound, soul, and character.

GM should have been smart and made Buick’s only in China since that’s were they sell the most at they should have kept Pontiac and Saturn and formed a new subsidiary company called “The Pontiac-Saturn Motor Company” and they should have continued to sell the two brands in the US instead they killed them off 😞
They should of just took Saturn and hummer but nope it Saturn Pontiac and hummer I know why cuz sales went down and a company got 30B dollars for one condition witch is to take away Saturn Pontiac and hummer
I've owned a black base model Solstice for almost four years, and it holds such a special place in my heart. Always such a joy to get it out on the road. Runs great, handles well, and still turns heads 😁 This video got in my feels just a bit
you want to know what bittersweet is? youre looking at it. this is heartbreaking - you are watching our country fall apart by one more big piece right in front of your eyes
That's funny to see my name (Dwayne) in the trunk lid of that last Solstice to be assembled, I just bought a Brazen Orange one last year (2020). Mine came out of that same plant in Delaware
I just (Finally) bought a 2008 GXP - Garage Kept & I LOVE it. This is also coming from someone who had previously owned 2 Fiero's. Should NOT have stopped making this car. It's AWESOME!
I wonder who bought it, and if they know how monumental it would be to own it? Overall, it’s a sad documentary. You can see the pride they have in what they’re doing.
I do quite like these cars, temperamental thermostats and all. There's just enough small, light, American, front engine, rear wheel drive cars out there.
Here I am in May of 2023 watching this and had to pause it only 1/4 of the way through - the part where the 2 workers attached the trunk lid and someone announces in the background, 'LAST CAR!' Not gonna lie, has me a bit emotional. Not only because I have the 1st year of the Solstice- 2006 - but seeing the end of Pontiac altogether. Pontiac was a very unique brand that came out with very unique vehicles. Non generic, u like today.
I own a 07 i bought used 7 years ago, and now have 297,000 miles with no major issues purchased with 180,000 miles. I changed the color from red to corvette metallic blue, I get so many compliments on the but many ppl think it's a miata at first
Do you know how much i had to pay to have all that writing removed from view...... Lol.. Just playing & bringing a little levity to a very sad day for Pontiac & the employees of this and other Pontiac, Saturn & Oldsmobile plants... And yet they kept Buick instead... WHY? ( Hey it's almost a Cadillac for someone over 70 & diehard fans of Tiger Woods, remember his Buick commercials then people found out he drove an Escalade when his ex-wife tried to run over him with it & chased him down the street with a 9 iron? And much like Buick should have been his contract with GM & his marriage was terminated ) I'm a fan of Tiger Woods BTW... Just not a big enough fan to ever buy a Buick ( Maybe in the late 1960's early 1970's but not today )
This video was posted 7 years ago, and it's still making the rounds on various social medium platforms reminding folks of Pontiacs demise. Luckily, there continues to be Solstice & Sky enthusiasts who drive and maintain these great cars for people to see, and for people to go; What is that?
Sad to see Pontiac go I've owned 2 a 63 Bonneville convertible the only convertible I've ever owned & 67 Le Mans both where great automobiles & I've owned a couple of Buick's & I now own nothing but Chevrolet's I've always been a GM guy. But I think my days of buying new ones is over last new 1 I bought was 2008 still runs great . I just can't believe there not making Pontiac's any more or Oldsmobile lot of automotive history there.

Been Pontiac fan my entire life. I own many including 2 mysterious black 06 Solstices. One with a 666 in the vin. Very sexy cars and definitely a driver. GM stole Pontiacs Bonneville prototype to build the first corvette. Banned tri power on mid sized gtos in 67 yet put tripower on a vette that year. And finally after giving Pontiac a true 2 seater sports car... they killed them. F U Government Motors. Long live Pontiac.
This car design exposed all fakeness of bmvv n mbz's grills' design. You knew they put highest pricetag and also highest tax at spareparts shop. While that design didnt came frm them. Soltice did.

I got one with 22 k miles and its a hunk of junk. always breaking down... thankfully still under warranty
@@nukezap6528 wow lol 140k and still driving it sorry you have had issues
GM should have been smart and made Buick’s only in China since that’s were they sell the most at they should have kept Pontiac and Saturn and formed a new subsidiary company called “The Pontiac-Saturn Motor Company” and they should have continued to sell the two brands in the US instead they killed them off 😞
They should of just took Saturn and hummer but nope it Saturn Pontiac and hummer I know why cuz sales went down and a company got 30B dollars for one condition witch is to take away Saturn Pontiac and hummer
Pontiac still lives 😎
years later i am still wanting to see a Solstice Coupe
A friend of mine has one! Not very many made.
Man, the passion behind those cars are just amazing. Thanks for the video. I've really enjoyed it.
Enjoyed video learned a lot concerned about parts I want to buy this car
I have a 2006 Pontiac Vibe, yup I know its a Toyota Matrix, love my Vibe, I will always miss Pontiac.
I've owned a black base model Solstice for almost four years, and it holds such a special place in my heart. Always such a joy to get it out on the road. Runs great, handles well, and still turns heads 😁
This video got in my feels just a bit
What a special video thank you. Solstice pilot. #thesilverbullet
Your 'e welcome. It was a privilege to work there for 37 years and be able to share this special moment with all.
you want to know what bittersweet is? youre looking at it. this is heartbreaking - you are watching our country fall apart by one more big piece right in front of your eyes
r.i.p pontiac
What a sad day for everyone, lots of camaraderie and memories. Wish I could have bought that one, have my 07 GXP best car ever.
No wonder why my 07 gxp has 114k miles and is still running strong :D
Kansas City, Montana??
I think you mean Missouri, brother. Great video otherwise!
That's funny to see my name (Dwayne) in the trunk lid of that last Solstice to be assembled, I just bought a Brazen Orange one last year (2020). Mine came out of that same plant in Delaware
Best color!!
Awesome Pontiac That Deserved A LS Motor From The Factory
I love my red 2006 bought it used 2 years ago love love love it. couldn't be happier with anything else.. love you guys work so proud to own it
It is a beautiful car marred by a craptastic plastic interior.
I love my red 2006 bought it used 2 years ago love love love it. couldn't be happier with anything else.. love you guys work so proud to own it
Such a shame we turned our backs on Saturn and Pontiac
This end is the result of allowing the federal government to have control of the company.....
I just (Finally) bought a 2008 GXP - Garage Kept & I LOVE it. This is also coming from someone who had previously owned 2 Fiero's. Should NOT have stopped making this car. It's AWESOME!
Pontiac Excitement !!
Just like Jazz, Pontiac has died tragically.
"Kansas city Montana" 🤣
My eyes are watery
I wonder who bought it, and if they know how monumental it would be to own it? Overall, it’s a sad documentary. You can see the pride they have in what they’re doing.
Love the video, love the kappa platform. I'm the proud owner of a 07 solstice myself.
this is sad to me this many years later
I do quite like these cars, temperamental thermostats and all. There's just enough small, light, American, front engine, rear wheel drive cars out there.
I think Buick should have died before Pontiac did, gm luxury branding is Cadillac, but what do the have now that drives excitement...........
I own a 2006 made out of that plant
Here I am in May of 2023 watching this and had to pause it only 1/4 of the way through - the part where the 2 workers attached the trunk lid and someone announces in the background, 'LAST CAR!'
Not gonna lie, has me a bit emotional.
I'm still loving my 06!!
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2009 SOLSTICE GXP! IT IS BY NO MEANS SLOW OR "LACKING POWER ! " MY 09 YELLOW GXP IS VERY FAST (OVER 340HP) WITH A FEW MINOR UPGRADES. TO BE ABLE TO OWN SUCH A BEAUTY, I CAN OVERLOOK THE "BAD CRAP" YOU SAID ABOUT THE INTERIOR. IVE OWNED CAMAROS WITH WORSE INTERIORS THAT FELL APART IN A FEW YEARS. COMPARED TO MY 13 TR OLD SOLSTICE GXP!!! I SHOW MY CAR (UP UNTIL THE VIRUS THIS YEAR) WITH MY CAR CLUB IN ILLINOIS, THE "MIS-SHIFTS" AND GOT 5 TROPHIES IN 2018 AND 1 LAST YEAR, (ONLY DID 2 SHOWS!) SAY WHAT YOU WANT, IF THEY WERE STILL IN PRODUCTION, ID HAVE A NEW ONE AS WELL!
Imagine if the Pontiac Solstice came from the factory with a 6.2L LS3 V8.
I have a 2006 and began to notice clutch issues now after 37k miles. Fun to drive, more economical then Corvette.
This is one sad day, Pontiac was not only GM's Mopar but also America's BMW as well.
I had a 2009, GXP 5 speed turbo. Loaded, Black. Loved that car. Lost job in 2013 had to sell it. Sux.
