Would you drive the Scamborghini?
more like 2.8L
in 2010 I had an 88 Fiero, powered by a 2004 Cadillac 3.6L V6 @ 255 hp she went like a scalded cat
Sure it has the fury and acts of the original but half the price of one
@@speedhunter7156 Half the cost?? a 1984 lamborghini countach is $270,000 and a 1984 Pontiac Fiero MSRP brand New was $8500. I think you need to check your math.
@@KrazyMitchAdventures and your the one whos complaining
You could do a 25 part series on making this car faster and better looking! I’d watch every single episode!
Now I see it caught fire. Looking forward to an update video!
Yeah if you made episodes of cleaning this thing up I’d watch every episode
put it up against the Car Bros Fierri Enzo
Scamborghini spinoff show?
@@MotorTrendWatch do eeet
I had a Fiero a few years ago. I loved it. Ex wife made me get rid of it. Should have gotten rid of her sooner instead lol
Never let your woman tell you what to do. The car is never going to wake up one morning and tell you that it doesn't love you anymore.
Got to love mid-engine. That couple of seconds where they were just chatting with the car on fire was GOLDEN
Flamborgini. This would be an epic 24hrs lemons build. Should throw down against the F40 Ferarri fiero that competes regularly.
Except the cost would still far exceed 24hr lemons limits.
@@joshriver75 Lemons guys know that this car, being a self solving problem, is never ever going to be competitive. So they don't care about the money that's spent on it.
@@Arrchey249 Nonsense..nobody is going to spend $1700 on an entry fee. $1000-$2000 prepping the car only to be penalized with an abundance of negative laps. It isn't uncommon to be rejected for an overly excessive "BS factor"
Sure the is junk..but it's a totally impractical choice and just far too expensive.
@@joshriver75 you really think they will get any penalty laps? Every time MotorTrend goes there it only ends one way, a magnificent failure.
Also on the far too expensive and impractical.... Arguably the greatest Lemons car is a Viper swapped Rolls-Royce....
@@Arrchey249 you get 1 penalty lap for every $10 spent over the price cap.
By the way Mike dealt with the fire, I get the idea this isn't his first time
Don’t forget your phone 😂
@@MrGhostOg 😆😅🤣😂
We'll get started on a Fires with Finnegan compilation.
@MotorTrend Channel I loved the momsoon run as soon as he crossed the finish line he mentioned AND NO FIRE!!!
You guys should have used a 3800 SC instead of a V8....
Either drivetrain from a 97-08 grand prix with a 3800 supercharged or ls4 would have been a better swap since fiero guys do those swaps all the time and would have made more horsepower also.
They also do sbc swaps all the time before the 3800 series 2 and LS became really common on the cheap and probably the cheapest V8 swap on fiero
I was just going to suggest a transverse V-8 swap from a Monte SS, which you could then throw on a turbo/supercharger/procharger with moderate boost.
Definitely was about to suggest the LS4 swap or the Northstar. Or even better the LS4 with the Cadillac Northstar transaxle.
But I suspect in a decade or two, maybe 3 guys will be yelling LT4 with the C8 drive train.
Stock 4.3... huh???? Maybe, kinda, definitely, a 2.8 multi port.... Wait hold on he got it right mid way through . Good job
4.3L isn't a bad idea tho, tuned could easily do 290 HP, or 400+ HP with a turbo.
I don't think the fiero came with a 4.3 maybe a 2.8 or a 3.6
2.8l. 4.3, that is a BIG v6!
2.5 four tech I think. Worst 4 cyl ever made or the 3.6 v6 which was just as bad.
@@_Oz_ 4.3 v6 is kinda like a small block v8 with two cylinders chopped off the front.
They make a kit that allows a front-wheel-drive, V8 Cadillac engine & transaxle in a Fiero.
With "a few" aftermarket items, they are insanely fast.
Best regards,
Ben
Like the 4.6l Northstar? That would be insane fast
"We got oil sloshing around. No biggie."
Fire erupts into the cockpit.
Life comes at your fast!
We need the full Episode here un UA-cam pleaseee
That's begging for a Cadillac Northstar engine and transaxle. With a turbo of course.
Needs FWD Impala LS swap.
Are you sure you guys didn't stage that fire?
And now put in one kit twin turbo, set of big brakes and one very good kit of suspension with racing coilovers 😜
What did you put the fire out for, you should have let it burn
Yeah, yeah, yeah, The Fiero Fire jokes. it was almost exclusively the 1984 2.5-liter that caught fire. By mid-1987, the 1984 Fieros were catching fire at a rate of about 20 per month. Those 260 cars which burned made up just 0.7 percent of all Fieros sold. Also, unlike the case of the Ford Pinto, no deaths resulted from Fiero fires, and there were only ten cases of minor injury. GM rolled out a recall to fix the issue. Based on the large amount of Fieros still out there, they don't all catch one fire. I have 2, and if you search FB marketplace you can find plenty of them for sale.
You have an 86GT with a v6 that is less likely to catch fire than the 350 you are dropping into it, as you found out. LOL!!
It certainly lived up to the Fiero name by catching fire.
Fiero name has nothing to do with fire nor did they catch on fire a lot. It was only a small percent of the total production of Fiero and it was only the first year that had a fire issue.
@@Zankaroo Good lord, it was a joke.
4.3 V6?? I think you meant 2.8.
Cotton said 2.8 when they were dragging the engine out from under the car
finn welding that box section is like putting lipstick on a pig lolol
Coulda did an ls and transaxle out of an impala ss
I love the builds these guys do on FWF. Such a funny show.
Awesome episode guys 😎👍 It may be a knock-off lamborghini, but it sure started on 🔥fire🔥 like a real one 🤣
Should have used a countach to have the comparison considering that's what this kits suppose to be and I bet it would have been much closer.
I was thinking the exact same thing but the countach are so rare these days that I highly doubt someone going to let them track a real countach
FLAME-Broghini... it's still holding to its origins as a FIERO...
That's awesome! We got the EXACT results everyone else did with a fiero!!
THIS reminds of the RoadKill I miss!!! :D
I love how cotton said grab my phone
Fiero's didn't have a 4.3 V6. That engine didn't exist when they were built. The engines that were available were a small 4 cylinder & the 2.8L V6.
It caught fire at the end. That made it more authentic in my opinion
If you want a stronger transaxle, you could use a 4t80 out of a grandprix that has the ls4 engine. Or just use the ls4 with the 4t80 transaxle.
We need and we want to see more about this lambo, please! Improve her in every way! Thank you. Greetings.
And the best engine for this car is to take out the whole front end of a North Star caddy. V8 insanity in a tiny light car!!
Cheapo oil breathers mounted laterally by any chance? Near hot headers. You're gonna need a better oil management system. Maybe pipe everything to the front breather? Dunno. Never done that before.
Oh boy as a fiero owner and several swaps under my belt I can already tell you knowledge is power. 3800 sc swap with a 3.5 pulley a set of plugs and depends. Your all set. Do it cheaper go auto. That trans can hold lots of power but it’s how often. Now to watch through.
Did he just climb out of the window???? I've never seen that before on a fake Lambo lol.
4.3 stock motor eh.
Yea, try 2.8. I bet the quoted 140 horse is optimistic, too.
That was kinda psycho. Fire 🔥 is always a scary thing!!! Scamborghini is a win.
They are never right until after first fire. Kinda of a burn in period if You will.
That was the calmest were on fire senerio I ever seen! It sounded good at high rpm too lol!
GREAT VIDEO MIKE!!!! I LOVE THE UPGRADES!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!
"stock 4.3 fiero motor" Uh.... No... the fiero came in a 2.5 I4 and a 2.8 V6. the red intake indicates it's a 2.8v6 same engine as the S10.
It was traveling so fast that the friction from the air heated up around it and burst into flames!
I've had the motor out of a fiero before with a floor jack and a couple really tall jack stands. Oh it was awesome.....not. Really getting it lined back up to drop it back down was the worst, can't wait to watch you try to fanneggle it back into place!
I think an aluminum 5.3 from an Impala SS or Pontiac GTP would be the move, rather than that fragile trans
@@ryurc3033 right?
Wow, this is one of the most realistic Lamborghini replica I've ever seen, even catch fire like the real one 😱
LMAOO
I think we have that much oil sloshing around while there's an actual fire in the back burning gotta love it 😂
Was this on TV? Does anyone watch TV anymore?
This is great content
it was on Faster with Finnigan on Motor Trend on demand. this was an epic episode, since all Finnigan talked about was how Fiero's caught fire all the time. and the finished with it catching on fire. there are a lot of shows like that on MToD.
WHAT SONG IS THAT PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND N WHAT BAND IS THAT?
Dangerous Game - Ian Baker
Took me forever to find it!!
The first year a few fieros did catch on fire due to a weather seal between the hood and body in the engine bay but was fixed with the removal of the seal.
ooooooo, is this track in Georgia? Near Road Atlanta? Where is this track?
That ending was fire 🔥 😅
How many circles should you run around the car before using the fire extinguisher? 🤣 Fiero guaranteed to light your fire!
True story... I was at a bar back in the 80's with a buddy. A really drunk guy kept hitting on the waitress, and was telling her to come out to the parking lot to check out his sports car. She asked what kind of sports car, and he said in a slur... Ferrario! She said Ferrari, and he slurred again... no, Ferrario! It's a Pontiac! Waitress said you mean Fiero? Drunk guy sez Yeah!!!
We about died from laughing, and no, the waitress didn't go to check it out. 😆😆😆
We need a series on a rebuild makeing the car faster and also look better
Should have called it the Lameborghini.
The foreshadowing is strong with this one 🙏
I keep a small Tundra fire van in every car I drive. They are sealed and good for 5-7 years and will disperse chemical three times longer than standard fire extinguishers.
Love yall ...but big missed opportunity guys ... should have done LS4 swap with motor/trans/cradle and all ... 06-08 montecarlo ss / impala ss
Missed a huge opp for flames and two guys freaked out reactions in car as the thumbnail 😅and catches on fire in title could go viral who knows 😂I found out abt the fire from the latest short n then found the vid
last time I checked a Gallardo has a V10 not a V12, so 2 less cylinders......
burracing3742 But this is not a Gallardo, it's a Countach which does have 12 cyl.'s.
"We are on fire"
*slowly gets out through the window
Its scary how bad cars can be and still be allowed on thebroad in the usa, would never pass a iva test in the uk, fantastic repair and fabwork making it safe again
Awesome! Ton of fun for not too much $$$
Y’all under estimate the Getrag 282 they had in them. Trans held up just fine to a Ramjet 350 crate motor. I could break the tires free in every gear shift and never broke the trans.
Back in the 80s I put a TPI 350 from a Vette in a Fiero, the runners were taller than the engine cover.. It was fun but it ate axles..
Cool seeing you guys at barber on the proving ground ! Ripped around that track on my mini bike at small bore
Stock 4.3 fiero motor??
I was at a car show last week where a guy had a ‘Fiero Mera', which is a Pontiac Fiero Ferrari 308 kit car "Fakerrari"
The 2.5L four-cylinder Fieros had a problem with weak piston rods that broke and smashed through the block, allowing oil to be thrown on the exhaust. The V6s didn't have this problem. And that is a 2.8L V6, not a 4.3L. The 2.8L is a 60-degree engine, the 4.3L is a 90-degree. Different engine.
HEY.... WTF, "IT'S a HOTROD' . . .🤣🤣🤣🙃🤣 Great Content ,Loved it !
Fire is a feature, not a problem...
It was only a small percent of the total production of Fiero and it was only the first year that had a fire issue. Honestly tired of car UA-camrs/journalist saying Fieros has issues with fire or burning to the ground as a blanket statement when they didn't.
What fiero came stock with a 4.3 as you state at the beginning? It looked like a 60 degree v6 to me. Iirc 2.8l
They corrected that later when they were sitting talking about it. It’s just the little 2.8 stocker.
Grab a phone grab my phone he try to get out the car too I'm dying 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fieros didn't catch fire. It was a very minor 1984 recall issue that turned urban legend. Also, 2.8 liter V6. Geez..
At least the Fiero and Lamborghini have something in common. They catch on fire.
I saw one with a fwd ss impala motor a couple of years back
I can't help but wonder if it would have been possible to just build up the 2.8 liter for more power. Or used a 3.4 liter with some mods. These are all basically the same block.
Or a 3.8sc and its autotrans
C5 for life. You Tube channel. He built a supercharged V6 Fiero that has some stonk. Real sleeper.
3.8 with the supercharger is the ticket, also using the front wheel drive trans from a gtp or one of the other supercharged fwd 3.8 cars and lock out the steering...either that or an lq4 and fwd trans from an impala ss
To think someone put this much effort into a FIERO with a stock powertrain is mind-boggling.
Those things are notorious for catching on fire! Apparently, even in disguise!
Showing what Fiero's were famous for.
Back in the early nineties I worked at a Chevron in Tucson and a guy came in with a white Testarossa; but the name badge was slightly crooked, and I heard a V6 when he started it up. I'd read about people using Fieros as the base for kit cars, but that's still the only one I've ever seen in person. I'd much rather have a hot rodded Fiero than a fake Testarossa, just as I'd rather have a real Timex over a fake Rolex.
If they used the stock plastic line for the oil pressure gauge, that would be my first suspect for the cause of the fire.
A longitudinal Audi V8 would work good in this and have a trans that can be built to hold power.
aw, that things really cool, I wonder why I hadn't seen much of it in other episoooOOOOHH IT'S ON FIRE!!!
You're supposed to replace the stock transaxle and transmission, when performing an engine swap on a Fiero.
Please tell me this is Part I with more episodes to follow.
Great work and fun.) Now this "countage" is realey not bad.
If the Fiero would have been offered with a 4.3, It would have been a great little mover, The engine is a 2.8.
Archie's kit will catch your car on fire. Don't do it people
If you could get a built up turbo 6 from a grand national it might have the best power to weight going for it....probably kill any trans you put behind it though.
why not just use the LS4 from the Pontiac Grand Prix GXP?
Instead of a firewall, you have a wall of fire, cool.
That’s 🔥
Fin: Are we on fire??
Mike: NO!
With that motor, I would love that car
Dang that was funny....chatting away with flames behind them....🤣
That was freaking awesome.
Wow. A Skid Row reference. How many people will get that one?
Ohhh Gawd, the body roll ! 😜
