1989 BMW e30 fl 2-Door with M20B20 Engine (Stock)
Equipment:
filmed with GoPro HD Hero 1
fitted an external Microphone unter the rear bumper and recordet the sound with a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Microphone is the original Galaxy Headset.
PS: YES i got a person next to me, thats why I am talking :D
the M20 is the worst when it comes to fuel efficiency ... because you want to rev the shit ouf of this engine everytime xD
what is the best engine for fuel efficiency if you wanna buy bmw e30??
M40s . I have M40B16 and its really " eco " xD . But its sound is not so nice, like M20s.
4 cylinder m40 engines - but the m20 doesnt break the bank completely - its not a V8 :D. The more "eco" inline-6 engines by BMW are m50/m52 blocks. They will go into an E30 with an E34 (5 series) oilpan and some modifications to the wiring harness and temp-sensors in the head.

If we talk about stock: m20b25. A lot of people swap from 1.6 or 1.8 to 2.0 but thats stupid. think one moment about that: 316 = 100hp - 318 = 113hp (both same weight) 320 = 129hp (lot more weight, in fakt not faster than the 318i) 325 = 170hp (same weight like the 320 but + 40hp. From 316 to 320 just 30hp so the 2.5 is always the smartest pick. Fuel is not so simple to answer. If the 2.5 is driving around and you need to follow with the 1.6, the smaler engine will need more fuel for that b.c. she is working harder. @@samer4977

I currently drive a 2018 440i Coupe and have driven various straight-six engines BMWs over the years but my favourite was a 1980 E12 528iA which had the glorious sounding SOHC M30 “Big Six” engine. Also great sounding was the “Small Six” M20 SOHC engine used in E21, E30, E12, E28 and even some early E34 models. Somehow, BMW multi valve engines never sounded as velvety and creamy smooth as those early SOHC M20 and M30 engines!

My 2018 440i sounds good but current BMW straight sixes just don’t sound so turbine and silky smooth as the old 12V engines. I had a 1980 528iA back in the mid Eighties and that chain driven M30 engine sounded SO good!

its an oem exhaust from ebay for around 40€ . but keep in mind that I mounted an external mic at the rear bumper for this video, not the inside sound!
I have the same car and i want to change my muffler, and your's sounds very good, even at the exterior, do you remind the Ref of that 40 euros exhaust :o ??

sadly no but really, I just searched on the german Ebay page for a rear muffler and bought the cheapest one :D

Vorher schön warm fahren, der mag das :-) ...Ich hab auch einen, n Cabrio, läuft immer noch super!... Öl und Wasser, danach kannst ihm ordentlich geben,hehe
wird immer warm gefahren bis das Öl 90 grad hat ;)
Besitzt du den E30 noch ? Habe bald vor mir einen E30 320i zu kaufen und mir damit einen kleinen Traum zu erfüllen. Was meinst du muss man aktuell ausgeben um nicht eine komplette grotte zu bekommen ?

Dani Santos personaly I would not getthe M20 engine in an e34. Git an e34 myself but with the M50 engine. Much better for the e34. The e34 is too heavy for the M20

Es ist ein OEM Auspuff von Ebay, hab bei dem Video allerdings das Mikro welches den Ton aufnimmt direkt an der Stoßstange befestigt. Daher hört man auch das Differential so laut

Ah ok. Hätte wetten könne, dass sich das bei 0:33 nach einer 100% sperre anhört ;) echt ein tolles auto und das zwischengasen beim runterschalten kann sich auch sehen und vor allem hören lassen
