- Bongo is not the first instrument almost anyone would think about when funk rock comes up. But that doesn't mean that there isn't a place for percussion like bongo for a funk rock song. So this video breaks down a few patterns that played on some funk rock demos.

Back in the 1980s, you had plenty of New Wave and New Romantic artists adding congas and bongos to their tracks. Haircut 100 and Spandau Ballet first come to mind,
Good suggestions! ... Spandau Ballet's "Only When You Leave" has a nice conga part on it.
Bob Dylan had his drummer play bongos on ' lay lady lay '
I'm adding that to a list I'm working on. Thanks!
@@RhythmNotes 😎 right on ... I can't remember if ' for your love ' by the Yardbirds made the list ( written by Graeme Gould of 10 cc fame later ) Clapton hated the song for being too pop and not true blues ) but I think it's a really good song
I was just listening to that tune today in the car! Great example.
Wayne’s World clip is a killer
"Rocket" by Herbie Hancock has a nice funk bongo groove.
That's a funky groove, for sure! ... I'm pretty sure that's Daniel Ponce playing batá drums. It sounds similar to bongo, but you can tell by the high tone, which is more of a slap (on the chacha, the smaller head), and how it resonates the larger head (enu) on the opposite side of the hourglass-shaped drum.
Also, the new break apart scales (ex:call/response section) is nice.
Thanks! Glad you like it.
cool stuff dude, thx.
You are very welcome!
