Thank you for your help!! You know I think you are right and that’s what I’m heavily leaning towards right now just to balance everything out! Hopefully I can pull off the table 😆😅🤞🏼
Go with a linen fabric. Use gel stain on the caning. Strip the finish off the table top & consider Early American stain. Stain the bench top to match the table top & caning on chairs & consider painting the bottom part of the bench to match the bottom of the table❤❤😊
Thank you for your help! I am definitely leaning towards the linen fabric to help balance things out. Im actually planning to do the entire table ( top and bottom ) to all match and be one finish, hopefully it turns out good 🤞🏼❤️
Hi! Ok, here are my thoughts on the fabric for the chairs. The leather wont vibe well with the rattan and black. The linen is nice but it does get dirty fast! Have you thought about a French ticking stripe? It would be linen but would have enough movement to hide spots. I love the bench! I love the chairs! I agree the table should have a lighter tone. This room is already great.
Thank you for your help! And I totally agree with you on the leather , that was exactly my hesitation with it as well! I love the idea of a stripe but I wasn’t able to find one in person and I don’t know where else to look for one. But I really really love that idea! Or maybe even a tight and subtle plaid. Thank you so much for your insight though it really is helpful to help me make up my mind! Hopefully you will love what I wind up with! 🤞🏼❤️
@ThePlantageNot you know I actually thought about this! I have a stash of thrifted fabric and I thought about trying to use some of it but I can’t find enough of one that I like for the chairs 😢 but you are 100% right this is the cheapest and best way to go if you can find a great fabric!
I forgot you had those chairs. Love them. I think the table should go lighter and the chairs darker with a light fabric on the seat. I like your options. I would spray them with stain protector. It does help. The dark chairs would tie in with the cabinets.
Yes! They have just been sitting off to the side all this time waiting for me to fix them 😅🤣 But now is the time to finally refinish them! I do think the chair frame needs to be black and then a lighter seat just to really freshen it all up. I think you are right! Hopefully I can make it all work and look as good as what we have in our minds 😂🤞🏼
@@brookedonnellyliving I know u can! It is a lot of work so just take your time. I had a similar finish on my kitchen table. I wanted to get rid of the more orange finish. I used citrastrip on it first and then used the palm sander. It wasn’t too bad. I did keep the legs cream. So if u want to get rid of the paint on them I would definitely recommend a stripper. Curvy things are the worst to strip!!
Yeahhh I’m a little worried about how long it’s gonna take 😅 But I’m gonna do a good scuff sand and try to use a paint sprayer and see if I can get a good smooth finish quickly 🤞🏼
If you decide to go the dark wood route- you can use gel stain! I used General Finishes Antique Walnut recently and it’s a perfect chocolate brown. Either way, the bench top & table top stains should match. I would do the bench legs in the same paint color as the table legs. I love your new dining chairs!
Thank you! So you will see this in an upcoming video but I started the bench stain and FORGOT TO STIR IT FIRST 🥴🙃 Soooo it’s like very dark and a mess and I have to fix it. And I definitely won’t be making the same mistake on the table. At least I hope not haha. Hopefully I can pull it together 🤞🏼🤣
Aww thank you! You’re so sweet! That is very true about the fabric protection, plus I agree with you I think I’m leaning towards a lighter fabric for the seats just to balance things out and lighten it up. Hopefully I can make them look good and you like them in the end 🤞🏼❤️
Hi Brooke! First of all, I love your channel! I love the new black cabinets! If I were you, I would probably go with the tan linen like fabric (also a striped one would look very good in my opinion). As of the color of the frame of the chairs, I would definitely go with black, I think it will go so well with the other black elements in the room. I would say once you have the chairs ready and the color on the caning right, choose a similar tone for your dinning table and bench. I think that would probably look best, at least for me personally. Either way, you have great pieces to work with and I think it would look lovely at the end! ❤️❤️❤️
Aww thank you so much! I’m so glad you are loving the channel! And thank you for your help, I think I’m definitely leaning towards black frames with the more linen like fabrics to help balance things out. The table is the tricky one, I got some paint as a base and some gel stain and I’m hoping I can pull off a pretty faux wood look and make it look good 😆🤞🏼 Thank you again and hopefully I’ll see you next time! ☺️❤️
@@brookedonnellyliving I don’t have much experience with wood working and furniture flipping but I’m a firm believer that if you gather enough information from the internet, you can do just about anything! I would say take your time to watch a few videos of other people doing what you’re planning to do and then choose the best method for your table. Even if it doesn’t turn out the way you wanted to from the first try, you can always strip any paint/lacquer with paint stripper or oven cleaner and just redo it. More experience adds more confidence! 🙋🏻♀️ Good luck and I can’t wait to see how it turns out! 😍
@LoveByLina that’s so so true! Even though it feels scary and it may be extra work, the chances are no matter what I can always try again on it, it’s not like the table is gonna disintegrate on me haha. Thank you for that! ❤️
I would install the faucet now rather than later so you can enjoy it now. Honestly I like the idea of using the blanket you bought to cover the chairs if you have enough depending on the heft of the material. Also, have you tried the Easy Off method of stripping paint/poly off of furniture. I have not done it personally but others have and it looks pretty good at the end.
Aww that’s so true, I really would love to go ahead and enjoy it, I just want to make sure we install it properly and I hope that reinstalling it later when we get a new sink wouldn’t mess it up but that’s probably just in my head 😅🥴 And yes I think I’m closer, like I’m pretty sure I like the lighter more linen style fabric to help balance everything out. And I have tried it but not to strip furniture but to lighten furniture that was already stripped and it didn’t work great for that but maybe it would work better as an actual stripper? Honestly I’m gonna try to avoid doing much stripping at all and stick to a light sanding and a good primer 🤣
I personally would do a nice big botanical fabric with a black background for the dining chairs. Maybe matching wallpaper in the back of the large shelving. Can't really see anything that's displayed in it. It is very beautiful, I wanted to do that but my dining room is too narrow!
Ohh I love a good botanical fabric , especially when they have lots of black on them! ( if you can’t tell, I’m very partial to using lots of black in my house 😆) I know it could look good but I don’t know if I want to commit to lots of pattern in this room , I’m kinda boring when it comes to my pallets 😅 And someone else also mentioned they can’t see in the cabinets and suggested painting the back but the wallpaper may be easier to achieve that with these pre finished cabinets! But honestly there is a part of me that likes not being able to see all that stuff all the time , it’s like just a hint of it instead of seeing all the clutter all the time 😆 For your dining room , I’m not sure how narrow it is but maybe you could paint the long wall and hang some beautiful floor to ceiling narrow shelves to achieve that built in/full wall display look? And maybe it wouldn’t be too deep for your space? I would have to see the space to brainstorm more but that’s what comes to mind! Hopefully you can figure out a plan that will make you happy every-time you look at it! ☺️❤️
I’m not sure if you have seen her video yet, but black sheep house has a video doing the “pottery barn salsito finish” it’s a faux wood look with just paint and glaze. I’ve done it a couple times on my furniture flips and it looks pretty realistic! Definitely easier than stripping down that table and restaining😅
I’ll probably wind up doing a very light scuff sand on it just to clean it up and give the paint something to grip too but I just don’t think I can sand all the paint off every crevice without damaging it , also without losing my mind a little 🤣 But I have a plan to restore it as much as possible! ☺️
Girl that bench is beautiful. Just my opinion I'm thinking the table top needs to be in natural light to medium tones with the dark cabinets plus the black on the chairs would make both pieces pop. Again just my opinion. It's your home make it what gives you n husband joy. Love Hobby Lobby. Buy most my drawer pulls n knobs there of course during the sales lol Excited to see next video on this. Have an amazing weekend
Thank you I’m very happy with it! It’s SOLID too! So hopefully it turns out good ☺️ And yes after sleeping on it I definitely agree that the table needs to be on the lighter side of things! Hopefully I can get it to look good 🤞🏼😆 And if you love hobby lobby you need to go like ASAP because the sales are strong right now haha 😂 Can’t wait to share more of the makeover with you soon! ☺️❤️
Table and chairs and bench would look best Aged Buttery (not ashy) White Oak. Maybe bench a tad richer more intense tone. But definitely not orange or brown.
Yes white oak is exactly what I was looking for! I couldn’t for the life of me think of the right words to describe it in the video but that’s exactly the vibe I’m going for!
I HAVE! I was considering doing that for sure but it’s just expensive product 😅 but I think I’m gonna do a similar technique with painting a base layer and using a gel stain on top! Hopefully it works 🤞🏼❤️
I have that faucet! Mine is in bronze, and I LOVE it!!
Oh my goodness really?!! I haven’t seen it in bronze but I bet it’s STUNNING! 😍
I think the first fabric you show after the leather would work best with the rattan and black! Can’t wait to see the table refinished 👏🏼
Thank you for your help!! You know I think you are right and that’s what I’m heavily leaning towards right now just to balance everything out!
Hopefully I can pull off the table 😆😅🤞🏼
That was fun. Enjoyed.

Thank you so much!!!! I am definitely leaning towards that one because of the tone and the pattern and weave if it!
Alternatively, go to thrift stores and look for curtains
You can buy fabric cheapest that way that can be used for upholstery
