The trumpeter in the back is Hugh Masekela. He had a hit record in the U.S. and elsewhere in 1968 with the original, instrumental version of 'Grazing in the Grass.'
The same concert with Hugh and Miriam Makeba. It was amazing.
From the Graceland album, which is outstanding
The reality of the people mining diamonds and those who wear them is like night and day. This song has amazing depth.
I love Paul Simon as an artist and songwriter and I really enjoyed the energy of this. Thanks for the reaction, Hap! 💕
Lady smith Black Mambaso! Zulu group from South Africa!
One of the most spectacular albums ever. A true masterpiece!
This has to be the most fun concert I ever saw. My parents were in their 70's at the time and they were boogieing around the living room like spring chickens. Such a cheerful vibe.
Heyup Haps, look up the album "Rhythm Of The Saints" especially his single "Obvious Child"
I think you got the meaning of this song perfectly and this was a great lighthearted rendition, that also reflected it perfectly. I know this song but have never seen this wonderful performance. You will never be disappointed with a Paul Simon song. A fantastic songwriter who is not afraid to tell facts about South Africa without getting too political. Good choice Jill and nice reaction HAP🥰🙋🏻♀
🎶🔥🎸❤ One of my favorite Paul Simon songs!! You nailed it Hap! 😊 Yes, a song about a poor boy and rich girl, self expression and finding common ground. They didn't dance at the Ritz but at a club perhaps in Harlem!! The bassist Bakithi Kumalo is amazing and along with Paul's storytelling skills, and backup vocals by Ladysmith Black Mombazo makes for a joyous song 🎵.His Graceland and Rythym of the Saints period was an incredible time. His Born At The Right Time Tour is one of my Top concerts ever...just amazing. This couldn't have been played at a better time today...seriously!! Peace J ✌ ☮ 💕
@HAP3SPEAKZ this was recorded in Johannesburg, South Africa and referred to as World Beat. It was recorded during a United Nations ban on South Africa, due to apartheid.
@@jillmcilwain2633 thanks for sharing this additional info🙋🏻♀
@@VUM.M my pleasure!!
Rhythm of the Saints also really great 👍🏻
@@ms.chuckfu1088 💕 thanks! Great piece of music indeed! Hope all is well with you!
What a fun song!! Such talent. I like to see entertainers also having fun while performing. Very upbeat. A tune for all to enjoy! Great reaction as always,Hap!! 💜🎵💜🎵 nice choice,Jill!
That was one of the greatest moments in music history. Bro you have a high bar
This was in South Africa and someone posted that this was the first time blacks and whites all came together for the concert. If anyone knows about apartheid the was proof that music brings people together.
Diamonds =South Africa. Walking blues = African American. Acknowledging the debt America owes for every form of music we have: gospel, blues, jazz, rock n roll, hip hop.
I love the pure joy this brings!
Would luv to hear your review of The Mavericks "Things I Cannot Change" please.
Its all about dancing and feel the blues😅
A wonderful song from one of the greatest albums ever recorded
Whenever that specific rhythm, that African sound spreads through the song, it's magical!
Also love the back vocals' synchronicity in dancing just as in singing.
Bass player had zero frets. Can’t explain how impossible it is to do that 😂
Ask Jaco Pastorius😂
Special albums Paul did there in the 80s and 90s . Heavy African influences. Amazing
I read he wrote this about Carrie Fisher. One of the greatest bass players here too!
The magnificent song and dance group is Ladysmith Black Mbaze- from South Africa- where this concert was filmed. The great Hugh Masekela on trumpet.
