    The prototype of this model was based at Longsight Depot in Manchester back in the 1990s in the exact condition of this model, there are photos of this unit online all around the north west, especially Greater Manchester. As I model this period I purchased one as soon as Hattons released it. Great review Jenny!

    Hi Jenny - I have the NSE and BR Blue/Grey versions DCC fitted and I am very pleased with them. They run very well , look good with plenty of detail and I love the lighting included.

    Some wooden cocktail sticks to wedge the sides might help get that body off without the fear of damage.

      Creeping Jane thin bits of plastic work well too

    A very informative video. Just for information the prototype Bubble cars could be seen at times with a parcel van or two in tow, SPV, GUV or BG or a big four company full brake.

    Great vid , probably try the Dapol Imperium 21 pin 6 function chip for full lighting functions, needed ono of these for my Dapol class 68 to enable all the lighting functions to work

      Richard Fletcher i swapped an Imperium out of another loco that didn’t need the functions and it now works fine.

    The 122 seems to have a better turning circle than the 121. Sad to hear that you had some running issues. These units did when in service pull other units and trailer cars.... when used as parcel service they had combinations up to 5 (121-121-117-121-121). Interestingly most of this was Class 121 (has problems with bogies catching on underframe) There was also an interesting reference to the 121/122 being used to help pull other DMU when they had motor issues.

    Hi Jenny, great video review!
    I've got 2 of these Dapol locos and have put Dapols Imperium dcc chip in them for best functionality of lights and it performs faultless ly. They're a great model for anyone's collection.

      @@JenniferEKirk Interestingly enough, I have a record of having spotted one of these in the 1980s, although I do not think that I knew what it was at the time.

      I don’t blame people, that’s certainly a colour I was looking for. I was torn between the maroon rail track or the br blue and grey with the stag. Settled for the br blue as I wanted to do more passenger service

    Hi Jenny, did you manage to figure out why the interior lights weren't working? I've just received my Class 121 and I'm having the same problem. Direction and cab lights work but not interior coach lights. I installed a Zen 21pin MTC 6 function chip so I presume it should work. Thanks, Julian

    • @JenniferEKirk
      @JenniferEKirk  4 роки тому +2

      Station Road Model Railway it seems they only work if you use a Dapol Imperium chip. I swapped one in and they worked. Don’t know why.

    • @StationRoadModelRailway
      @StationRoadModelRailway 4 роки тому

      @@JenniferEKirk Ah, that's good to know. I'll order myself a Dapol decoder. Do you think Dapol might be deliberately tweaking their locos so only their chips operate all functions?

  • @jaytea2
    @jaytea2 4 роки тому +1

    Hi Jenny another good review video. I have this model in BR green with whiskers which I have populated with passengers, but I can't access the drivers cab to insert a driver. It looks pretty wierd running with the cab and passenger compartment illuminated but no driver. If you do decide to populate yours any chance of a how to video??

    • @JenniferEKirk
      @JenniferEKirk  4 роки тому

      Jack Turner thanks! It is a gripe of Dapol models that they don’t make the cabs accessible. The class 22 is the same.

  • @DaveG6HNI

    It appears the aux lights issue is a known issue as there appears to be two different interpretations of the 21pin MTC standard, one using logic level aux ports and the other using full power aux ports I found this post www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/124540-dapol-class-122-dcc-sound-decoder-issue/
    Using a Dapol DCC decoder works OK but some say that the z21 doesn't like the Dapol decoder ???

    Just a question Ms Kirk Do you find that Hattons give and sell good products. I ask this because as an overseas enthusiast I have not had much luck with them Or was I just unlucky?

      New Junction I must admit I saw the stock levels whilst at Hattons today and they have plenty of this model to meet demand.
