Incredible. I have an Axial scx10.3 RC crawler with a dig transmission and I wanted to see one in action on a real crawler. Those drone shots were perfect 👌
Excellent vid. Want to see the young'n do it! Killer comparison shots. Take it for a walk, but NEVER let it squat. Great tip on using front wheel drive.
Always thought front digs were all hype. Thanks for the visual. That could really come in handy for a full-size 4-door pickup. Also, great video. Genuinely entertaining and informative without being a try-hard.
Thank you so much. I was not sure if they worth their weight in gold my self. I mean they are rad and have great features but after getting one and learning some of the tricks they are well worth the money. Just a heads up at takes 6-8 weeks to get one after you order it.
Thank you so much!!! We are pushing to get better and better content. And we get a little better each video. Thank you so much for the kind words. Helps keep us motivated.
Great video! The top down visual of the front dig is amazing. I am going to try doing front digs next time I am out. I am also going to run my favorite trail in front wheel drive only. What you said makes a lot of sense.
I learned this from some W.E. Rock comp guys and it blew my mind!. It keeps the ride smoother and if you get to something that you need all 4 then just bump the rear in when you mobbing go over then pop it back out.
@@WRECKEDGEAR Thanks for the reply. It's funny because I am a firm believer in 'front locker is better'. I have selectable in both axles and will go with front locked first most every time. So I don't know why I wasn't thinking front drive if you are only powering one axle. It will be fun to try.
Enjoyed the post. Very informative. Could you post all the parts you beefed up to stay compatible with the Atlas. Planning to put a build together and I want to do it right the first time. Thanks.
It really depends on your gearing. mine was a 5.1 so the torque of the 4.0 motor and the low gears put extra stress on the rig. I had to beef up my stub shafts and chase a couple welds. drive line ujoints and axle ujoints folded after the atlas. keep that in mind but know that the atlas case is 100% worth it.
Very good job. I have my first atlas in a a v8 TJ crawler, and I’m struggling to know where I’m at all the time, which stick first, etc. I immediately noticed front wheel drive worked great, and generally front wheel drive is more effective than rear anyway. I’m in on that.
very good video. would have never thought about the welds, joints and things breaking since the atlas is so strong. but then your rig is stronger. you only see sponsored or positive vids about atlas but it's good to know both positive and negative. found your vids from the RTI ramp. Keep it up man
Thanks man! I for sure didn't factor that in after buying it. Its not a big deal because you want to strengthen all those week point on your rig anyways. definitely something to consider.
I would have only had to cut enough space for the twin sticks if I would have had a standard TJ skid plate. Because I wanted to keep the flat belly skid on my rig I had to cut roughly 10"x8" to keep everything tucked up.
Do you just use e brake to lock up the rear I've got a blazer with a atlas and iam trying to figure out what needs to be done to brakes fir front Diggs was gonna put I proportioning valve but my local crawler shop said to buy eltronic solenoids with switches inside cab?? So I wouldn't have brake lines in cab any help would be greatly appreciated 👍
We just lightly power break. applying just enough pressure to lock up the rear tires but to where your fronts can still power through. I know a lot of people use that line lock for the rears. or cutting breaks.
Thank you for being such a big supporter. It means a lot to know that you watch every video that we make and take the time to comment on them. We really appreciate you!
The tuners really need to come out with a low-range requested torque limiter tune. That would save a lot of rigs from people getting two pedal happy in the low ratios.
Not a dumb question at all and I have the answer. If you ever get bound up with your rear tires if all for are engaged the front tires will actually push your rear tires into more of a bind. but if you take your front out then it allows your rear to do the work without being forced by the fronts into what your bound up in.
A little late to the part here but I was wondering if you could tell me what ratio you have, I believe you said 5:1 just wanted to make sure, and also, do you wish you had gone any higher? Thinking about getting one in the near future, but don’t want to over or under gear it. I know it’s also kinda odd but I’m going to keep my 3.73 diff ratio so if that changes what you may recommend. I know I’m asking a lot so thank you if you do respond!!
I have a 5:1 ratio on the atlas and a 102 crawl ratio. I drive a stick sto 5:1 works well with the combination of my drive train. I use Second gear most the time. But it is nice to put her in first and let her eat. It really all depends on your set up. If you call atlas they have great techs and can give you the best option for your platform.
@@WRECKEDGEAR thanks so much for replying, I’m also on a stick and if I get the 5.44:1 my ratio will end up being 90 total, so this is the perfect comparison, thank you!!!
You absolutely can shift into Hi on the Fly! And its not noisy at all at highway speeds. You can heat gear slap a little bit when you are in low but its because its gear on gear and I would be surprised if you even hear it.
@@mutilatedjak yes you can shit at same speeds as you stock transfer case I belive. Message me on instagram @wreckedgear I will make a video of it for you. If you find it helpful I may do a 2nd atlas tips and tricks video.
We do not. Some rigs do witch is cool but its more to manipulate and with to many gadgets it can take the fun out of trail wheeling. When we do a front or rear dig, to plan the not moving tire we just hold the breaks enough to stop the non powering axle but allows the other one to do dig through the breaks. I go through a set of break pads about every 2ish years.
Not out of the box. you can only do front digs in low. But I have herd you can take some pins out and do a little modification to get front hi to work in them.
My Atlas doesn't allow front wheel drive and when I called them to ask why they said that their case never allowed it. But your video showed it in action; WTF? I can only shift the front into whatever position the rear is in. Rear in high will allow front high, rear in low will allow front low. The front lever wont move to high or low with the rear in neutral, nor will it allow the front to engage in a different ratio than the rear. The tech guy I talked to said that this is how they're designed. What gives?
There must have been a miscommunication between you and their tech guy. It won't shift into "high" with the front only. I am pretty sure about this. Try shifting both into low. While moving forward give it a bit of gas and as you let up try shifting the rear into neutral. Do this a few times. I can do this while the rig is in drive but if you find it isn't working, while moving, shift the tranny into neutral and try again. This is just to confirm it actually will go into 4 lo front only. It's the 'easiest' way to do so.
@@olliehopnoodle4628 THANK YOU! I thought I had tried to put the front into low with the rear in neutral, but apparently not. I just went out and tried and yes, it works. I guess I got mentally stuck when the front wouldn't go into hight and maybe I hadn't tried low, or because it was parked maybe the gears just wouldn't mesh up. I first tried it in park and could tell that the lever moved part way into low, put it in neutral with the engine idling and it goes in and out of low with the rear in N.
Yes you can do all of that with a 2 speed. The 4 speed is just a doubler. You have an extra shift lever that you can double your crawl ratio giving x2 lower gearing.

2 speed or 4 speed, are you running a secondary caliper on the rear for a turn brake or even a ball valve controller for the rears?
2 speed, I also didn't have any cutting braks for brak locks. I just pawer braked its harder on parts but it worked for me at the time.
