The use of "First" in "The First Consul" is to denote Napoleons higher status relative to the other two consuls. Similar to the presidents wife being called the "First Lady". The position of "Consul" comes from the Roman republic, so the first chronological consul would have been a bit over 2 thousand years before Napoleon. Love your vids btw, always get me laughin

To be fair to Bernadotte, he told Napoleon that once he became Crown Prince of Sweden he’d put Swedish interests first, regardless of his previous allegiance. The two also had a rocky past, never really getting on with each other. It also didn’t help that Bernadotte had married Napoleons first Fiancé

Alexandre Dumas was one of Napoleon’s favorite general and the only black general in a European country at the time. So it’s a bit more complicated than that.
However He did put back slavery for economic reasons on some islands..

Despite I've head some problems with your way of reacting in the past...I came back and watched a few of your history reactions. I even subscribed now, because I really can see, that you try to learn from the history videos and when you don't know something, you are looking it up during you are reacting. That is much more than other, similar, reaction channels are doing.
You had questions about Italy and why there were little countries (Republic of Genoa) you've never heard from on the area that is Italy now. I will send you a recommendation via email for an explanation video, that will explain those questions. I hope you will react to my recommendation.
    Greetings

Kinda hard to take russia piece by piece when Russia uses Sorched earth Tactics. If they were willing to set their own capital on fire and let Napoleon take it what do you think they'd do to any city or village he would try to take? They burned everything behind them, if it couldnt be moved it was destroyed so Napoleon couldnt use it. The Soviets did the same during WW2.

The term consul, is an old Roman Republic term for and elective president type position. The Roman republic served as model of government around the world, inc the USA. Napoleon just called himself consul but took dictatorial powers effectively a lot like the early Roman Emperors following the fall of the Republic. Effectively it was now one man rule, and democracy died.
