This was well done Morgan! Thank you for doing this. If you haven't read it you should read the book by Bette J. Wiley called Our Miss Ella. It is remarkable. This deals with the essential part of what and who Ella was. The struggles and sufferings she dealt with and the "rising above" her...circumstances. She was truly an example in so many ways and human! Keep up the good work! : )
Well done! I am a distant relative of Ella's. I remember when I was about 10 years old I was the shortest member of my family (family defined as aunts, uncles, grandparents, siblings, and first cousins - all Ewings). My grandfather was a genealogist and the internet would not be a thing available to average people for another five or so years. We're talking early 90's; library books and old newspapers were what he had for research. One day I was feeling pretty sad about being so short and he told me he had recently found out the we were related to Ms. Ella and that I could end up being very tall. I think he said she was his cousin. Since his death some 20 years ago I have taken up his research. It is so nice to see her represented in your video as a person and not just a name on paper. There is very little information available about her non-performer life on the internet. I would really like to have a copy of her circus bill poster to display in my home but so far have not found a place to purchase one. If you know of a resource for me, please e-mail me at kendrasimons@gmail.com. If you were wondering, yes, I am still the shortest person in my family and my aunts and cousins all played basketball and are almost 7 feet each.
From looking at her face, she seems to be African-American. Was she? Obviously, in photos her parents are very white. But Ella looks very different. Nothing wrong with that, of course.
