This piece was one of the best I've experienced... It was beautiful, mysterious, and when the Suite theme showed it was majestic and emotional, and the whole piece led to that amazing finish... I loved it all.
We are playing First Suite (in Eb) in my school's symphonic band, and I honestly LOVE this piece. It's a modern twist on those old melodies and phrases. Phenomenal job.
Mr. Bryant, I played this at North Carolina's all-state concert for essentially my final important performance a couple years ago before giving up playing Tuba to pursue a career in the military, and it was by far one of my favorite pieces I ever played in my short musical career; I'll never be able to forget it. Thank you so much developing such a fun and heart-touching piece.
Man ditch the military, you're just serving the interests of the ruling class and corporations. Music has heart and soul. Music is the foundation of everything, don't leave it behind.
Playing this for VWA this year as a Freshman Bassoonist (Yes I have the bassoon solos) THIS PIECE IS TOO GOOD. I found myself "getting lost" at times just so I could listen to the rest of the band play and relax. When I was first sight reading this piece too I didn't know it used first suite so I was hearing it at first and asking myself "Am I hearing this correctly?" By the end I defiantly knew that you used the First Suite and was amazed. Thank you so much for composing this piece you do the First Suite so much justice and It really shows how far band composition has come in history!
There was certainly a lot more stand-out melodies from the first movement. I didn't even notice the themes from the third until I read the description... truly one of the most original and creative pieces of the last 10 years. Which is ironic considering it is based on something one of the most well-known pieces for wind band ever written. But after all the best composers are the ones who can improve and expand on the work of others, and in some cases create something just as original in the process.
This is a truly inspiring and moving rendition of Holst's classic work. Being a composer, I just love it when other composers incorporate well known pieces and make an original twist out of it. It's something I hope to do someday!
An Instant Classic! The first time I heard this, it wasn't well performed, so I didn't think much of it, but the second time it blew my head off. This piece has now entered the standard band repertoire, and it will be performed for as long as the Holst Suite will be performed. Hats off, gentlemen!
I played this my freshman year of high school on alto saxophone before I had even heard the Chaconne lol... playing those powerful parts with horn over 4 years ago now and I still remember the passion... thanks for writing this great piece.
The clarinets play waaaaaay higher there at 6:30 I looooooove this song! The Central Regional Band in Arizona played this song this year and we sounded great!
@stevenbryantmusic Yeah that's what you told us, back then in Schladming. :) This is one of the most awesome pieces i've played from you. It's just fantastic.. But personally i like Dusk a lot more :)
Mr. Bryant, I was writing some music with humming involved (inspired by this piece). I was wondering how you made the humming look so fluid on the score. As well as making the aleatoric parts so fluid? Also, cool piece. That is all.
Hi there - what do you mean by "fluid"? I use Finale, and the wavy line is a custom enlarged trill smart shape I made. Not too difficult. Thanks and good luck with your piece!
I just heard this piece at a concert today. I absolutely love First Suite in Eb so I had chills the whole time. Amazing work!

Okay, so this is one of my favorite pieces. We played it for All-state, and we paired it with Holst's Suite in e-flat. I'm in love with this.

Measures 167 to the end tug at my heartstrings so much; I love this whole piece so much but those measures are astounding. Well done!
My daughter played this at a PMEA concert and it was spectacular 😮 I’m rarely moved by a piece of band music- this was amazing to listen to live!
I am suuuuch a Holst fan! First suite is the piece of music that made me fall in love with music. Thank you for this!

I like all of the ad lib/vocal parts in this work. I really feel like i'm in a dreaming state. Beautiful piece overall :)

I heard this piece at the GSU concert a few day ago and absolutely loved it.
I was thinking that this sounds like Holst's First Suite in E flat. Then I read the description. And this is awesome. I fw it.
I think smell Gustov Holst throughout this song :)
Well, I hope so - that's the whole point! :)
Oh my god this genuinely masterpiece
Wow, thank you David.
Brilliant work! I'd love to program this sometime
This song with headphones on and full volume is so goood
We are playing March for our march at LGPE, and then this for another piece. Cool incorporation of correlating music!
I'm submitting one of my works to the Revelli competition. I can see why you won many times. Nice writing, very creative!
Thank you, and good luck with your composing!
Im getting to play this piece as well as Johan de meij movement V hobbits and a slovic farewell for spring couldn't think of a better senior year
I was in the group that commissioned this. Principal euphonium. Such a fun piece.
Very excited to be playing this with the NC all state band next weekend! Love the piece!
What a creative idea for a piece. Love it. Excited to play it next week. Not sure about my singing/humming abilities though. 😂
That just left me breathless...wow!
The clarinets play waaaaaay higher there at 6:30
I looooooove this song! The Central Regional Band in Arizona played this song this year and we sounded great!
***** Well since there is humming in this piece, that could qualify this as a song.
I just heard the NC All-State Honor band play the hell out of this. I am in love with this piece.
Contemporary band arrangements done right...with many feels.
I thought this reminded me of holst! then I heard the 1st suite and I was like oh!!!!. thats so cool!
I really enjoy the French horn part, mainly cause I'm a French horn and I'm playing this in my class right now
The Tuba part is AMAZING.
Amazing! I love the Horn parts!
This piece was commissioned for my band in 2007!
Then we must've met when I drove down for the premiere! That was a lot of fun, and you all were a great band!
@stevenbryantmusic yeah I just read it. Fantastic! Very smart writing.
Love this one!
@stevenbryantmusic

The memories
I laughed at the Holst reference. Nice job Steve. Sounds great (:
Yeah, that's the best part!
Benjamin lafo: it has all the parts it needs. Spencer: thank you!!
Thanks, secretpandaman!
oh, heck. Anytime, man.
WAS THAT A HOLST QUOTE?? OH MY GOD.

Steven Bryant Oh! A custom trill makes sense, thanks!
suite dreams or sweet dreams
Is 3:37 a quote from some other piece?
The whole piece is built from motives and melodies from Holst's First Suite in Eb. The program note on my website explains it all.
6:40 to the end!!
What an amazing piece. Who performed this?
+Camp of duty Thanks! North Texas Wind Symphony.
I thought I heard some Holst in there ;)
the very giant
Ah sry, have lot's of fun Joschi ;)
Pun for a title? Dissonance much?
I hope there is a fast part...
