  • This houseplant tour is a pretty long one but I take you on a plant tour through my entire basement setup. Pretty much every plant in my house is grown down here in this plant room. I have a wide range of all kinds of plants ranging from seedlings to mature specimen. I hope you enjoy this style of video and this gives you a better idea about Techplant and what's behind the scenes.

    4:13 it is diffenbachia! I have the dotted version, they can grow really huge! My biggest one was 8 years old and above 2 m when it started flowering. Unfortunately I had to chop it up because I _really_ started to run out of space… ^^ anyways, I love the content you create! This basement is awesome!

    1. Go to the doctor if you're getting short of breath easily! It's a symptom that can turn serious quite easily. (End mom mode)
    2. Man, it was a comfort not seeing the Instagram perfect grow spaces... and behind the scenes!

    Thank you for the great tour of the plant room it's nice to see a realistic view of the plants, just like most of us have it can be plant chaos at times. Would love to see a video of the carnivorous plants - I haven't branched out yet to add them to my collection. I would have to have an enclosed tent for them or a terrarium because I live in Minnesota with low humidity in the winter I'm sure you can relate.

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  Рік тому

      I have some older videos that really show them off and the care involved. surprisingly they do not need high humidity! light is probably the most important aspect. also something very cool that you may no know is there are many carnivorous plants native to your state!!! Minnesota actually has a lot of alkaline bogs where you can go and see them in the wild! the midwest even has pitcher plants!
      They key to success is just sphagnum moss/perlite/peatmoss then keep them in a dish so they can sit in distilled water at all times and give them good strong light and they will grow great. no need for humidity domes!
      Also if you visit a bog be on the lookout for orchids we have a ton of them in the midwest and they grow where carnivorous plants grow. I have a few bog videos about wisconsin but the same can be found in parts of minnesota!

    15:19 I grow a lot of Christmas cactus. Some folk will claim that you can tell the difference between Christmas cactus and Easter cactus but honestly they're so hybradised with each other at this point it's not worth bothering with. They're super easy to propagate.
    The purple though is not ideal, they're happiest when they're all green. The purple/red is stress. They actually do better on kinda a shadey corner so I reckon your guy is feeling a little burnt, that's probably why yours is so small. They can grow absolutely massive if given the right kind of care.
    Yours is doing good, but it can do better if ja know what I mean

    Very big collection, I am aiming to have a plant basement soon, I will be taking a lot of inspiration from your setup!
    For the big bush anthurium, I think I have one that is doing the same thing. Normally once a cataphyll is formed, only flowers will emerge from petioles. I think there might be a genetic/hormone imbalance that cause this plant to produce leaf from petioles even if a cataphyll is developed (or think of it as when the plant should have produced a flower, it produce a leaf instead) And then the extra leaf will eventually produce new leaf/cataphyll of its own and just becomes a big bush. I think you mentioned that you haven’t got a flower from it yet, maybe that’s the reason.

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  Рік тому

      seems possible. if you are going to build something in your basement they sell massive 10x10ft grow tents taht may be easier because you can go really high humidity inside without affecting your house. I would have to move everything at this point and cover the walls and ceiling with plastic which is not an easy thing at this point.

      No because I never exceed 60% so far its been ok. If I started going to 70 or 80 I'd have mold. The plastic is mostly to help keep heat in

    Shop lights are bright enough and they were only ~$20 and my plants do just fine. I've bought the ones that are 5,500 lumens, they are blinding-I need diffusers just so I can see.

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  Рік тому +2

      I let most of it get pretty dry before coming through and watering. Sometimes I water just sections. It kinda all depends. I use almost the same medium for everything these days which is just like 50/50 perlite and peatmoss and it dries fast so pretty much everything is in sync I can do a dedicated video on that. I have some decent learned info for watering but i need to try and compile it all for a good video
