Established in 1826, Galena is one of the oldest towns in Illinois. It was once home to United States President, Ulysses S. Grant and is still home to the OLDEST operating hotel in Illinois - DeSoto House.

It's very picturesque in the autumn, and there are fewer crowds.
It's a very popular spot, it only took me sooo many years to visit! Winter gives the city a different feel. I can imagine this city bustling in the summertime!

I probably chose the coldest day to visit (in the negatives) but I still found it fascinating! Now you know you've seen one of the oldest cities in Illinois!
Is Galena a good place to visit in winter?
I would say it’s less ideal than summer. Many attractions are closed, it can be a lot colder, but it is also much less crowded! I would say it’s a lot more lively in the summer time
Only time i'm in Galena is when i go to ChestNut Mountain. but looks like a nice town!
