I keep asking myself: These guys who break world records, are they unbeatable in racing competitions? Of course, in racing I know that there are items to get in the way, but these guys are so fast that I have the impression that they are capable of opening up such a huge gap for the others that even a shower of blue hooves would not stop them from winning!

You're not wrong to think that, but the top racing competitors are often very strong at time trials themselves as well as item use. While the WR holder may be able to break ahead a little, a red shell usually more than neutralizes the time gained.

I’d assume that, despite being insane at time trials, the strats they use there are far too inconsistent for real races. And other top competitors would be able to pull off the more consistent strats just as well.

Gold kart works really well if ur playing a track on 200 that prioritizes speed over everything else. It's the same with sneaker, prancer, blue falcon, etc. not stat wise since they're slightly different, but it's generally the same idea
