Had the exact thing happen to mine. Abs sensor wires were stuck inside so need to drill it out too. New sensor should be arriving tomorrow so hopefully have it running by Monday. Thanks mate !

Hi, must say your knowledge on all these different marques is astonishing... Plus 'Your video, sound and picture' are top notch... May I please ask...? Our year 2000 Merc SL280 is fitted with a round diagnostic 38-pin round multi pin socket under the bonnet... Is there a way to connect modern diagnostic equipment o this??

Yes you can absolutely get an adaptor for the 38pin to rectangle OBD2 as I have two myself when I use to have an older E Class from 1998. I sell them in my Amazon online Store, here is a special link for you. Note, sometimes depending on your car the plug doesn't push in fully due to the cars housing, so I've reduced some of the case down sometimes to make them fit amzn.to/3xDvcPm Thanks if you subscribed, let me know how you get on.
Just went through exactly this on mine, went back to two new Merc batteries and all is well. Glad it's getting warmer though! It's there a battery tender that you WOULD trust?
