I’m impressive Joanie (Erin Moran) actually did quite well in her dancing routine. I don’t remember this episode, but I’m surprising Joanie could dance like that.
This was a good one, as Joanie "ran away to join the band". Suzi slipped a quick one in about knowing about Runaways, as she'd been with them for three years. She was actually talking about her opening act while she was on tour at the time.
Suzi Quatro is huge in the UK & has several #1 hits there. This song was supposed to break her in the US, but it never even got on the Billboard chart, even though it went to #1 in the UK.
That’s an interesting fact. There’s apparently a big difference between the UK and American taste in music. For that to be #1, in England is surprising to me. Yet also somewhat surprising it didn’t even make the top 40 here in America. Suzi must be the American version of Kylie Minogue, who is tremendously popular, and all the other English speaking countries, except for North America.
Yes, big difference. Modern music came from England and oldschool music from America. Suzi was a big star in several European countries. In Germany she was more successful than in the UK!@@MikeCee7
It's amazing how tiny and high pitched her voice sounds. She sings a duet with this guy Chris Norman called ’Stumblin’ In’ her voice is much more present in it.
"Stumblin' in" was the only Suzi Quatro song I'd ever heard, and I could remember it from when I was 10 or 11 years old. I watched it on UA-cam and started checking out her other stuff. Really great, why didn't I know about it sooner? I don't know what it's like to get old though, I'm still a teenager inside this aching skeleton!
Like yourself, as a teenager, I really didn't know much about Her until I heard Devil Gate Drive. After hearing it, I was a fan of hers & always will be.
For those of you complaining about the fashion in this clip, maybe look up Nudie Cohn. It really isn't as inaccurate as you might believe, except for the high cut shorts of the back up singers and dancers. Mr. Cunningham would be covering up Joanie's legs with his jacket!
I hate haters! I loved the show! I don't like how people want to be negative all of the time! I guess they don't have a life and this is all they like to do to make themselves feel better.
Ya know after seeing this clip, it reminds of just how old I really am.I have Suzi Quarto on those old 8 track tapes.Remember those anyone? The answer is no. She was popular in the UK, not so much in the US, before she appeared on the show. She also said that she really enjoyed being on the show.
By this time, Happy Days was a shadow of its former self...everyone was wearing '80s hairstyles, etc. Once Fonzie dumped his white jacket and "Rock Around The Clock" was dropped as the opening theme, it was on its way to the end.
+thickmass22 Well... Season One was a half season.. Season Two had the same zeitgeist. Season Three though... Rock around the Clock replaced. Single Camera replaced by Three Camera live studio audience. First Episode: Fonzie Moves In TL; DR. 38 Episodes then🏄🐟
This was still late 1978-early 1979, so not quite '80s hairstyles. But I do think the attention to period detail had begun to slip & a modern look was creeping in. The episode was after the shark had literally been jumped in the Hollywood-set season premiere, but the show still ran 6 more seasons afterwards. Clearly, some people were still watching regardless.
I don't remember Leather and the singing on this show. Did they do this in the later seasons of Happy Days? I was busy in High School and into my young adulthood
It's Playback in film. They do it sometimes. The music comes from a recorder and the musicians only play singing or playing instruments. Now do you know why and you can again sleep at night.
Yes...maybe a little potential...Suzi Quatro and her sisters only invented all female punk rock genre in 1965 with The Pleasure Seekers and Cradle with their song What a Way To Die. There's slight potential to start an entire musical genre...The Runaways, The Slits, The GoGo's, Bikini Kill, etc would not exist without her. I would agreement Suzi Quatro had the potential to change music history.
THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYIN'!! LOL For one thing, if a young woman back then got up and sang this sort of music with *that* look, they would have thought she looked like an unkept MAN! NO woman in 50's entertainment looked like this-even the most edgy(Maybe she'd look more like a beatnik?). Further still, she is dressed with a sort of nod to a late 60's/70's Elvis costume, who wasn't wearing those one piece suits with rhinestones until years later. This is why, yet again, television fails-lol. :)
It was a tamed down version of the song already. And this is fiction, right? It would have been cool to see such a female performer in the 1950s. That it wasn't possible in reality just shows that the real 50s sucked.
Exactly, nobody repeat nobody had feathered hair like Leather does here. That hairstyle didn't even exist back then it's completely and totally a late 70's thing!

I loved her on Happy Days. Aside from being A great musician, she managed to mix 70's music into a 50's themed sitcom.
A lot of her music was retro sounding. She covered Elvis among others. I do like seeing music from the future on Happy Days
