I love videos that highlight the invisible VFX that we never even question. In Gravity, there are portions of the scenes where parts of Sandra Bullock are entirely CG and comped together to allow it to look like she's floating. It is a bit funny how over the years our eyes (or at least mine) are fooled by what is CGI and what is not. When a new movie comes out with special effects or CGI it looks so real you are fooled to believe it's the real deal, but when you go back a few months or even a year it's almost like that Image or effect just pops out and just looks out of place.
+THEoWOLF I guarantee that it's at least as hard to record a scene where someone drives a freaking tank through a city, which by the way was done in "GoldenEye", and it was all physical scenery as well. Check out the video "GOLDENEYE Bond Tank Sequence" if you want crystal clear proof of that. In other words - recording a scene at an airport would be no problem at all, they could simply build a model of an airport or use one that is about to close anyway. Sorry, but the airport in civil war is real. I live in this city and the airport was blocked the whole time of the movie making. The actors was there too. Funny fact: in the movie they said the scene plays in Berlin. But that isnt the Berlin airport. Its the airport of Leipzig/Halle. Its a complete different german state.
In my country there's a director and he doesn't like greenscreens. He prefers using real landscapes as main backgrounds here in Europe :) Looks always great!
ed wyn actually CGI cost a lot more than renting locations and the cost of modelling texturing animation and finally compositing into a scene makes it a lot more expensive.
One of the few times i actually love yt recs. Just got a green screen, already knowing how to key.. and my mind is going crazy with ideas. It's crazy what you can do as long as you know how to edit. I bet some of these movies could have saved a lot of money doing it right.. Then again, it depends on how much they're paying these people, doing the ocd style of editing required.
Civil War: It makes perfect sense to CGI the airport scene considering how much destruction actually went on during that fight. An airport is also a busy place, especially one as big as the one portrayed. How much money do you think they would have had to pay to shoot on location EVEN if they were willing to shut it down for a film shooting? Wolf on Wolfstreet: It may seem like it's not necessary to CGI simple backdrops, but sometimes the directors of the film do not want the locations to be recognizable, or at least TOO recognizable to real life locations. Gravity: As for the props that aren't even there... Not lazy. It would be as if they were calling the prop makers lazy for not building a full size astronauts suit just because they CGed half of it. Godzilla: "There might be some CGI that might surprise you. Like when the military attacks the monster, there's nothing there. Just green screens, a fence and some soldiers." --you're right. I was fully expecting that scene to be shot on location with battleships n the background firing actual missiles at a real Godzilla. Batman v Superman: Contrary to what the video says... I think most people were not surprised that Batmans suit was mostly CGI. I... really wouldn't expect most humans to wear a suit that clunky and move around at all.
+Amadeus Eisenberg. I've got a question for you, and I'd like you to answer it without swearing or getting angry, if possible. thanks. What difference does it make to you? Say I've got two options for a shot I need. I could go fly across the atlantic to get a couple of shots infront of the statue or liberty to establish a scene is taking place in New york, and then from there on it'll mostly be indoor sets because I'm making the film here in Ireland and once I'm indoors it doesn't really matter as long as it feels like a new york-esque building. Or I could get those few new york exterior shots on a green screen, and ultimately achieve the exact same effect, but be able to produce my film faster, and more efficiently. Both give the same end result, so my question is: Unless doing some via cgi/vfx means actually impedes on the artistic vision and/or is noticeably not real, why does it matter to you? CG is just another tool in the filmmaker's toolkit, and the thing is, every one of those tools, from the dawn of filmmaking, has only been used to fool you in the same way cg is now. Practical effects (e.g. the animatronics in jurassic park) were simply there to fool you enough to suspend the disbelief that there's no live dinosaurs. Before computer set extensions, matte paintings were used (a pane of glass with a new background on it infront of the camera). the list goes on
I can't believe how much CGI was in Wolf of Wall Street. I love the movie, but using CGI to just change the backgrounds just seemed like a waste. Would a lot of them really have been that hard to film at locations?
Yep, insurance costs, travel costs, permits, security, road closures, the costs go up like crazy. And also, the actors' scheduling may not have allowed them to travel.
Thats true, you're both right and it does get crazy expensive. Just me personally, and its just my opinion, didn't really see the point in changing the park as seen in the example here. Don't get me wrong, it looks more beautiful afterwards, but didn't seem that bad the way it already was. But also at the same time, as somebody who loves to play with VFX, it blows my mind to see before and after stuff like this! As Scorsese has said himself: "The best editing is when you can't see it" and I really agree with him on that
David Fincher is one of the directors who use CGI not because of budget constraint, but to enhance the film quality and viewing experience. U should def check out video essays abt him.
Jack III Yup I've seen videos that show how he's done it recently for his Netflix show Mindhunter, pretty amazing stuff. I heard he did it for a lot of Gone Girl as well, I'll definitely have to check out more on that

I could never be an actor.. I’d be so distracted by all of the props or imaginary props.. I’d probably be laughing the whole time 😂 like “you want me to do what”? “Make love to this teddy bear..? Ooh okay”
CGI has gone way beyond anything Thomas Edison ever could have imagined. I know some people think it takes the fun out of movies, but I totally disagree. The effects in movies are constantly getting better (go back and watch Jaws sometime) and that in itself is fantastic. What is also fantastic is that some very creative people have come up with how to do this and much much more. I enjoyed watching this UA-cam video just as much as watching the movies themselves, so the fun is definitely still there for me. Smart people make the world go around... even if it's VFX!
because movie CGI is using far more CPU power than the graphic card of your PC even if it"s a big one... And it needs months of work (for a lot of very specialized people) to make a few seconds of good CGI, when in a game your PC just have a few milliseconds to create the next 60 images all alone... Your PC and a movie production are not playing in the same category !
Ben Whoever if they were as real your computer wouldn't be able to read or render the game because tthe games will require a lot of power and calculations. That is why there are game requirements.
In Movie CGI when scene is create it will be lock and cannot change, we not recreate that scene in movie and it is fix the images creates by CGI in Movie its only play in Sequence while in video game graphics a games have different possibilities in a single scene means CPU works in very fast speed to create 60 images in millisecond to perform command given to it it means cpu change images again & again
Yeah, but you can't deny how good CGI is getting. Even if it still looks fake, there's a lot of talent behind the scenes. The VFX artists have to know a great deal about anatomy, lighting, physics, etc. Look at how far we've come from stopmotion.
@@rilem1510 you are missing a fundamental point about movies. And that is that they are the composition of multiple talents. Well, they are supposed to be. Why should writing and acting be sacrificed just because the VFX artists are really good? That makes zero sense. And it leads to movies that dumb society down because understanding the movie requires somewhere between negative infinity and zero intelligence. Even an action movie can have intellectual value. Just because it is not the norm does not mean that it shouldn't be.
We remember the good old movies with a lot of real actors and very cool decoration and backgrounds. Sometimes we working on small videos like this again. The japanes version of Godzilla was very great, with the modell of citys, cars and ships^^
when u come to know that some dummies or fake things have been used instead of a real thing, ultimately your respect for that movie more or less goes down.
As far as movies goes does it even matter? Even when movies were low tech they were based on fakery anyway...the movie industry is all about corrupting the mind.

+inder keharwalia mirza Actually, several of the scenes in "Jurassic Park" were physical robots and animatronics. And this proves that you don't need CGI for _every_ single dinosaur scene. For example, the scene when you see the head of the T.rex for the very first time is a robot, and the sick Triceratops was completely real as well. And the heads of the Brachiosaurs during the night scene were _also_ real. And all of them looked absolutely amazing. Those scenes are a few examples of when practical effects work much better than CGI effects. CGI should only be used for very complicated scenes.

In my country there's a director and he doesn't like greenscreens. He prefers using real landscapes as main backgrounds here in Europe :) Looks always great!
i love CGI ,That's the smart way of creating something that looks real while saving money ................... More CGI please :-)
Wtf no less cgi
ed wyn actually CGI cost a lot more than renting locations and the cost of modelling texturing animation and finally compositing into a scene makes it a lot more expensive.
One of the few times i actually love yt recs.
Just got a green screen, already knowing how to key..
and my mind is going crazy with ideas.
It's crazy what you can do as long as you know how to edit.
I bet some of these movies could have saved a lot of money doing it right..
Then again, it depends on how much they're paying these people,
doing the ocd style of editing required.
Civil War:
It makes perfect sense to CGI the airport scene considering how much destruction actually went on during that fight. An airport is also a busy place, especially one as big as the one portrayed. How much money do you think they would have had to pay to shoot on location EVEN if they were willing to shut it down for a film shooting?
Wolf on Wolfstreet:
It may seem like it's not necessary to CGI simple backdrops, but sometimes the directors of the film do not want the locations to be recognizable, or at least TOO recognizable to real life locations.
Gravity:
As for the props that aren't even there... Not lazy. It would be as if they were calling the prop makers lazy for not building a full size astronauts suit just because they CGed half of it.
Godzilla:
"There might be some CGI that might surprise you. Like when the military attacks the monster, there's nothing there. Just green screens, a fence and some soldiers." --you're right. I was fully expecting that scene to be shot on location with battleships n the background firing actual missiles at a real Godzilla.
Batman v Superman:
Contrary to what the video says... I think most people were not surprised that Batmans suit was mostly CGI. I... really wouldn't expect most humans to wear a suit that clunky and move around at all.
....really dude? you seriously think he's really complaining about there not being a real Godzilla there? THAT'S what you zero in on?
I wouldn't really say he 'zero(ed) in' on it, considering he wrote a little bit about each film
Both give the same end result, so my question is:
Unless doing some via cgi/vfx means actually impedes on the artistic vision and/or is noticeably not real, why does it matter to you?
CG is just another tool in the filmmaker's toolkit, and the thing is, every one of those tools, from the dawn of filmmaking, has only been used to fool you in the same way cg is now.
Practical effects (e.g. the animatronics in jurassic park) were simply there to fool you enough to suspend the disbelief that there's no live dinosaurs.
Before computer set extensions, matte paintings were used (a pane of glass with a new background on it infront of the camera).
the list goes on
"Wolf on Wolfstreet:" Fucking dead
Features of movies has been really fantastic with these effects. Thanks for it.
Doesn’t matter how important the movie is, do you really think it’s possible to use an actual airport as the set?
batman v superman came out in '16 not '12.

I came for the guy acting as the raptors in the thumbnail lol...
I can't believe how much CGI was in Wolf of Wall Street. I love the movie, but using CGI to just change the backgrounds just seemed like a waste. Would a lot of them really have been that hard to film at locations?
Evan Teed Well using cgi saves money. And enhancing the background is different then just a green screen.

Wow what you are showing us is magnificent 🙌👏👏👏👏🙌
Can I see the movie seen behind "under world" any of the series .
I could never be an actor.. I’d be so distracted by all of the props or imaginary props.. I’d probably be laughing the whole time 😂 like “you want me to do what”? “Make love to this teddy bear..? Ooh okay”
that takes some good acting.. more props to them 😂
Only actor can do this easily
But once you start doing acting it becomes easy.
-Hey honey, I'll be acting with Chris Pratt in Jurassic World.
-Aww, that sounds cool. What's your role?
- The Dinosaur ofc...😎
CGI has gone way beyond anything Thomas Edison ever could have imagined. I know some people think it takes the fun out of movies, but I totally disagree. The effects in movies are constantly getting better (go back and watch Jaws sometime) and that in itself is fantastic. What is also fantastic is that some very creative people have come up with how to do this and much much more. I enjoyed watching this UA-cam video just as much as watching the movies themselves, so the fun is definitely still there for me. Smart people make the world go around... even if it's VFX!
why video games don't look as real as movies?
because movie CGI is using far more CPU power than the graphic card of your PC even if it"s a big one... And it needs months of work (for a lot of very specialized people) to make a few seconds of good CGI, when in a game your PC just have a few milliseconds to create the next 60 images all alone... Your PC and a movie production are not playing in the same category !
Ben Whoever And it takes alot of Money!
CGI will look the same as video games if they were rendered in real-time on common computers.
That is why i really love Mission Impossible. Everything are real.
wth
You sure bruh? Everything is real?
Nothing is real dope head
@@hitpuntacanatv8959 most of the stunts in mi movies are shot without vfx
Jacke Chan's movies most of the stunts are really done
Why does it matter if everything is CGI. I really don't get the frustration lol?
you obviously don't have any idea how the modern world is influenced by movies.
Old thing good. new thing bad. thats essentially the only answer you'll get
Yeah, but you can't deny how good CGI is getting.

Good content, no ads. Perfect.
Too many fast cuts so you can't take anything in. You should consider redoing this.
This is Amazing!! Tom Cruise does all his stunts in real life.
Henry Cavill also does all his stuns in every movie or serie that he works.
This is awesome! Amazing what you can do with a green screen. :)
We remember the good old movies with a lot of real actors and very cool decoration and backgrounds. Sometimes we working on small videos like this again. The japanes version of Godzilla was very great, with the modell of citys, cars and ships^^
Hollywood movies becomes just because of editing and visual effects!
Soon you wont even need actors
There will be actors only ones with taco heads
You don't for some of them
Fully animated movies exist already but the ones with actors seem more popular
Actors will be hologram-like people made with CGI.
Watch the movie called “Simone”. That pretty much explores your idea about a computer generated actor.
when u come to know that some dummies or fake things have been used instead of a real thing, ultimately your respect for that movie more or less goes down.
Rony R.
Yes, because they're going to have real dinosaurs.
@Maria
Don't you mean heartbroken?
It’s better to pretend they are real 😊
Not at all. If anything, the VFX guys get my respect for making computer animated images look real

Actually, several of the scenes in "Jurassic Park" were physical robots and animatronics.
