Sounds like you are enjoying yourself and making me happy at the same time!😊 I can do a video at some point, but I can also just answer you here.🤪 I fill my fineliner with diluted acrylic paint. I just mix until I hit a consistency I like. I store mine standing and just make sure that the consistency isn't too thick, because thats what make them clog. Have a wonderful creative summer. Oh... and btw, I love the clothes with your art on them. Beautiful!💗

This comes at the perfect time for me. I've painted all my life and am bored with my own attempts to explain and explore the lovely woodlands and autumn colours or spring and summer and the water and all. Boring in water colour, pastel, acrylics, oils you name it. So I let go!!! Um. timidly....Then I found you!! What a great example of the sort of beautiful and interesting and colourful, subtle and even tasteful way to let go! Now I am enjoying even the failures and they are only failures when the paper gives out or I do. Mostly they are fun and lively and sometimes... occasionally beautiful too. There is a long way to go but thank you so much.

Yes! Cathy that is the way to judge our own art before exposition! Sometimes i celebrate my judgement for several days until i am satisfied with it! Something weird but that is… I have learned with your demos how to handle the unaccepted “spots”! Thanks again for your gifts to art!

Fascinating journey with this piece, I always love the process to get to the end result. When painting abstract I look at it as starting at the bottom of a mountain, and along the climb their are obstacles, hurdles, different paths taken, struggles and when you finally get to the top of the mountain the end result is like a breath taking view. A gorgeous little piece well done!

Thanks Deb. I dry my pages from time to time, so the paint is dry and doesn't lift. The black and white bottles are fineline applicators. You can find them online if you do a google search. The windsor newton spray is a permanant varnish. I use it to keep the charcoal layers from smearing. Hope this helps Deb. ;)

I coulda swore you are a new yorker. Love your work. Struggling currently w being loose and abstract and not overworking my pieces. Are those fine liners you have recycled watercolor masking fluid bottles or do you buy them that way?
Thats so funny Tara. I am a new yorker🤣🤣🤣 , but I've been in Norway for years and years now. A good tip if you are struggling is to try and doodle on paper before you start painting. Just hold the tip of a pencil or whatever you choose to work with and let your hand relax and warm up. If you still have trouble when you're painting, then turn your head away and don't even look at what you're doing. The fineliner is just what it is. Do a google search for fineline applicators and you'll find them. Happy creating. 🧡💜💙

Yes I did. This is an art journal, not work I intend to sell so I didn't see the need to prep afterwards. There is nothing wrong with painting over varnish without prep on small spaces, but in any case, If I had intended to sell this I could just use and acrylic primer over the varnish or sandpaper it lightgly after it dried.

You could just frame it and sell it or you could make prints. I've sold whole books as well. ❤️ I use Amsterdam Standard Acrylics. 👍

That was a can of Winsor Newton permanent varnish. It keeps the charcoal from smearing. Use it outside and dry it before painting over. ;)
What's the ratio you use of paint to water in your fineliners? I just love that finishing touch 😊

If you still have trouble when you're painting, then turn your head away and don't even look at what you're doing. The fineliner is just what it is. Do a google search for fineline applicators and you'll find them. Happy creating. 🧡💜💙

Where is the charcoal stick from and brand?
I bought it locally I think. So long ago, so not even sure. I have no idea what brand it is. It’s so old I only have the plastic wrap it came in. Sorry. ❤️

Did you really spray with varnish?? Varnish before painting???
Yes I did. This is an art journal, not work I intend to sell so I didn't see the need to prep afterwards. There is nothing wrong with painting over varnish without prep on small spaces, but in any case, If I had intended to sell this I could just use and acrylic primer over the varnish or sandpaper it lightgly after it dried.
