    I randomly came across your video here and I've read a great deal of comments/questions. I want to commend you for the respect you give to everyone you've responded to because I know it's pretty strenuous trying to get back to most, respond in a manner that will be tailored to their question/comment, and potentially keep things respectful for those that may not or after a long day out here on the road. I hope all you folks that appreciate Ryan's vids and the great information remember to give the Landstar recruiter his name as being your sponsor. He'll make a few hundred bucks I suppose and that's good for him. It's your way of repaying him something for all his time and experience and sharing both with you. It's great for you because it costs you zero! And Landstar wins, too ( a win, win, win) when they get another good driver. No, I don't know Ryan. I'm not even a trucker. I've only watched 3 of his vids - all today. But, I really admire people who share what they have and he's doing that for you. I do hope you will share his name with Landstar so he gets a reward there. And, you can tell Ryan you did that and he'll be receptive to help you down the line when needed. Remember, what goes around comes around. My best to you all.

      The application process will take about the same time I would assume, you will just have to get your trailer inspected along with your tractor when that time comes. Your real advantage will come after orientation, you will be able to books loads immediately, and not have to wait for a company trailer, for up to several days in some cases. @@creebird the loads suck odd lanes, hazmat heavy loads, You will barely break even by the time they take 1/3 of your pay and your expenses you'll be down to nothing the real quick. 30% of the loads on the board are just ghost loads they don't even exist ,let alone pay well .Most drivers sit for days with windows down trying to save fuel before they get their next load You can't count on pre planning your trips because more than likely will cancel for a lower rate. Can't bring your kids on the truck can't park where you want You'll be lucky to clear $55000 a year there.

    • @truckingandfixing
      @truckingandfixing  4 роки тому +20

      All of your costs through Landstar (plates, permits, eld, lock set, etc., and insurances if you choose), will be prorated out and deducted from your settlements over several weeks. Here is a good link with costs and a calculator. www.nonforceddispatch.com/owner-operator-pay/ . Other than that, I would personally recommend having about $5000 in reserves, preferably cash or a low rate credit line, to cover any expenses such as a truck payment, maintenance items, and personal bills any payments. I recommend this because you need to get to orientation, spend a few days there, then it may take a few days to get a trailer as well, so by the time you get your first load and deliver it, you might be out 2 or 3 weeks or more before your first pay check. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any further questions.

    Hi Ryan , I been thinking a long time now about joining Landstar . June was my original plan to make the move , but since this whole co-vid19 thing I was worried about heading there with a truck payment and not knowing how freight is going. I’m a LP driver and I’m tired of driving crazy long miles a week just to break $1200 take home. What are your suggestions right now about Landstar. Thank you and God bless

    • @truckingandfixing
      @truckingandfixing  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the question and comment. If you don't mind me asking, what are your expenses now, truck, insurance, etc.? Things are still a little unstable yet, I've had a lot of cancelations on booked loads that have been dependable in the past few years. Actually, before this covid19 mess, I only had 2 cancelations at landstar since 2018. If you have high expenses, and you are still making stable money with your current carrier, you might want to stick it out a few more weeks and see what develops. Just keep in mind, if you switch to Landstar, by the time you go through orientation, get a trailer, and get your first load, it could be 2 or 3 weeks before you might see a paycheck, depending on how things play out.

      I lease through the company I’m with and my truck and insurance comes out to just pay under $700. I roughly pay for fuel around $1000 a week .it is a walk away lease and I plan on getting something from a dealership

    How often do you get home with Landstar

    • @truckingandfixing
      @truckingandfixing  4 роки тому +4

      At landstar you dispatch yourself, so you make your own schedule. I typically say out 2 or 3 weeks, then stay at home for 5 to 7 days, depending on my plans at home, and how outbound freight looks. If you have a company van, they want you to contact them if you plan to sit over 10 days, but I have sat on a trailer for 18 days when we vacationed in south Asia last year, and no one bothered me!

    • @truckingandfixing
      @truckingandfixing  4 роки тому +1

      I have not seen a specific year or age posted, but I found this info quoted below, it seems you basically need to pass a DOT Inspection and be able to use an ELD.
      "Trucks and trailers that pass a Level One DOT inspection through an approved Landstar inspection facility may be leased on. Tractor must also be capable of functioning with an Electronic Logging Device (ELD)."
      Hope that helps!

    what reasons are for Landstar to terminate lease with a BCO?

    • @truckingandfixing
      @truckingandfixing  4 роки тому +1

      I would say that the most common reasons would be truck maintenance, safety violations, and preventable accidents. For the most part, no one bothers you here. You have to get an annual inspection every 120 days, and if something doesn't pass, you basically have to get it fixed immediately, so that gets a lot of guys.

    If you're a driver and thinking of becoming an owner/operator I suggest the @ooida Truck To Success program before you make the plunge. I would NEVER let a carrier own the plate on YOUR truck. Landstar is good company but look around. There may be another company better suited for you
