I remember seeing a trailer for this movie like, 6 years ago...😂
Lmao wdym? Thought it was in 2017?!
@@geoboy700 feels like longer though
I remember being excited on the idea of a horror film that takes place in the X-Men universe, but as time went on, and the more it kept getting delayed, I lost interest in New Mutants.
Never give up hope
watch Legion (TV series)
@@sdHansy I have, and it's a much better horror X-Men project than this movie.
Fox never learned their lesson. Almost everytime they go against the director, they fail , waste and lose money. Trust the expert movie makers
@@matthewdaley746 it's ok to doubt and question. But at the end of the day OP is right. They should have some trust.
Studios never got over Michael Cimino's flop Heavens Gate. Despite it being well over 40 years old.
I’ll honestly never understand why money people think they know better than movie people when it comes to movies. They hire the movie people cause they’re the ones who know about movies, money people know about money. They don’t know how to MAKE a good product they just know how to SELL products. They should stick to their lane.
Mostly true but not always. The studio allowed the director of Wonder Women 1984 complete control and look how that turned out...
@@sargonsblackgrandfather2072 yes. That is why "some" trust is needed. Not full control or full hands-off approach.
I honestly didn’t know this movie had even come out yet.
Wake up gramps
Soap 😂😂!!
I saw it at a drive thru. Big waste of time.
@@COLE_PRODUCTIONS well it did give you the excuse to go to a drive-in. That’s pretty cool. Even if the movie wasn’t.
if I a dollar everytime someone comments "I didn't know this movie came out"
A great concept dulled by studio whiplash interference. The final product felt like a first draft, good, but unpolished. I had heard some of this, but the video really rounds out what a crazy time this battered feature really went through.
To me it honestly felt like the pilot episode to a TV series.
Too much pandering? Yeah, typical Fox...
I want to know the behind the scenes story of Bumblebee, on how it was gone from a prequel to a full on reboot that actually saved the franchise.
I started reading comics with the New Mutants Demon Bear storyline so I am fond of these characters.
Magic was well casted although I preferred the more innocent version from Chris Claremont. Wolfsbane was good. But Dani Moonstar, I imagined a taller girl with leadership qualities; and it's a pity that Hollywood doesn't get that people of the same sex can have a deep friendship and not be gay. I wish they had a shorter actor for Sunspot and Cannonball should have been lanky country boy.
Still, it really wasn't that bad a movie.
This movie should have been great, I'd love them to take another shot at New Mutants and with the Horror Vibe Boone intended but after this movie, it's very, very unlikely
Yeah, that would be nice if we did get another New Mutants with a horror vibe. That was a nice idea.
The things I personally hope they do, hire a new director. See if that person can capture Boone's idea, but only make it better.
Replace Maisie Williams and keep Anya Joy Taylor and Blu Hunt.
I know most people was hating on Hunt in New Mutants, but I think any problem, she may've had is because she's new to acting. I really think she'll get better with experience.
@@seanmiles6991 Yeah, I like Maisie Williams but I feel like the characters should be played by lesser known actors and actresses, I liked her take on the character in the film but I always see her as Arya Stark still, there's not much differentiating the two
@@jonthenamelessproject99 I should've made myself clearer. I was trying to say that I hated Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane.
I disliked her performance in this film from her accent to her behavior.
By far I thought she was the worst part of this film.
I thought she good on the part where she was being terrorised by that priest, and then transformed into a Dog ( not a Wolf) that's another subject.
No personal dislike for Maisie, but she is a experienced actress, unlike Hunt, who is new to lead acting, thus I think she should get a break.
@@seanmiles6991 yeah, I’ll agree with you there, I like her but she could have been cast as another character
If we got a Snyder cut we can get a boone cut
I just want a Director's Cut
I just don’t know why they didn’t write the story around the little girl from LOGAN ,.... that was the best angle to start the new mutants
Filming was starting right around when Logan was released. They didn't have anyway to know how popular her character (and storyline) would be
Because they did a reasonably good approximation of the best New Mutants story of all time. This is the Dark Phoenix Saga of the New Mutants.
I don’t know why this movie get so much hate except that I doubt most people read this series back in the 80s as it was released. I did and it felt correct to me.
@@negativeindustrial the problem is they already did dark Phoenix twice before this ,..., the movie from 2 years ago and X-men: the last stand,..... they really should’ve focused on revamping the franchise with the girl from LOGAN. With hugh jackman not doing wolverine anymore that would’ve been the perfect time to push that girl to the front of the franchise.
Studio heads are ruining more and more movies with the goal of money. It has to be a blockbuster or we wount make it. There aren't going to be any series left at this rate
I actually enjoyed the movie for what it was. So much so that I saw it three times in theaters. To me it was a small and eerie supernatural thriller that just happend to be connected to the X-Men universe. And it helped that the characters were really appealing.
This movie was one of the last movies I saw in theaters before they all shut down a second time. Smh
This one was inevitable
I liked the look of the film right from the first trailer, and was desperate to see it. I headed to the cinema when it was released and I wasn't disappointed. I really enjoyed it. A sequel developing what happened here would have been great. Alas, looks like it will never come to be...
Nice review and explanation! Love this channel
That was so sad to seeing, because this film had a such potential
In other news, Last Night in Soho (the movie had Anya Taylor-Joy in it) was delayed to October this year, because this is the third time that movie had Anya Taylor-Joy in it got delayed All lot, The first one was Playmobil: The Movie... Seriously???
I liked this one. this movie didnt do anybody no harm (DARK PHOENIX I see you). it has its flaws (the dialogs OMG) but its a fun ride.
the girl from "Split" and her character made it work :)
the cast was too small
There was nothing about it that felt like “new” mutants. Whatever the real ages were they felt like college kids working out prolonged adolescence. Honestly called for actual teens. I know how hokey that usually turns out, but otherwise it fails the comic
The script sucked really bad thats what happened to this movie.
Content is king
Yep.. Even the stellar cast of Anya and Maisie can’t save it.. But I hope they get a shot to play the characters again some day.. It is my fave comic series as a kid in the 80’s..
The New Mutants sequel sounds so sweet!
But never happen for some reason.
I was skeptical about it but it turned out to be a pretty enjoyable movie in my opinion.
Question: "WTF Happened to this Movie?"
Answer: "It happened. And it shouldn't"
😂😂
Maybe they should call it the GoT cast curse.
Sophie Turner joins the X Men - FLOPS
Maisie Williams joins New Mutants - FLOPS
Hopefully Marvel won't make that mistake.
that other girl joined Terminator and it FLOPPED too
@@anubusx I've noticed they haven't really gone for any big TV show actors.
Okoye and the new guy that played Red Skull are the only ones I can think of 🤔
@@greenrobot5 I still haven't seen that 🤣 and I don't think I want to
Peter Dinklage ?
After Fan4stic, Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, and this I'm just so glad that Marvel's time at Fox is over. Yeah they gave us Logan and Deadpool but I feel like the X-Men can now accomplish so much more at Marvel.
Yes!! Been waiting for something like this for a while now. I even have the Blu Ray and begin to ask WTF Happened to this movie?
You ever read an issue of New Mutants? It was never that great but you still loved the characters. In that sense this is perfect. Casting is spot on. I would love to see Dr Strange try to reign this Magik
11:50 I would argue that logic SHOULD be a primary concern in a superhero movie. And physics. Just because the characters have these physics-defying powers, doesn't mean that we can throw logic and physics out the window when it comes to the world they inhabit. This seems to be a point that a lot of superhero movies miss.
I saw the movie in the theater and thought that it really had potential. Hearing of the sequels makes me even more convinced that if they made this whole movie just the first half of the movie, with the second half of them breaking out of the facility and facing off against Sinister it would have been stronger. Plus having other muttant teens around to be more clique-y and staff for the hospital would have made it better. All the mutant teens would fight together against Sinsiter and then our new mutants would go off to Xavier while the to be Hellions would be found by DaCosta in an end credit scene, setting up the Hellfire Club.
Sad the movie didn't do better, but if anything, get Taylor-Joy back to play Magik. She's just perfect. Get rid of the accent though. The accents were so cartoonish in this film.
good video, probably shouldn't use a major spoiler moment from a big TV show as a half second clip near the end though. I'm only finishing up Season 4 of GoT.
It was not a bad movie it was just from a different perspective. The MCU movies have spoiled us so bad that we expect every superhero movie to deliver in that manner but I enjoyed the movie the way I liked Brightburn, like it wasn't a awesome movie but I can appreciate someone trying to take the hero films in another way than the usual especially horror since that's one of my favorite movie genres.
OH BOY, HERE WE GO.
I just randomly thought about this movie just now. Honestly from what I remember, it wasnt too bad. + Im in love with ATJ and she did good as Magik
Can someone please tell me what the name of the music is at 6:59
Welcome to our new reality, x men, ruined, star wars, ruined, James bond, ruined, everything, ruined
Bond ruined is hyperbolic
X-men was always hit and miss anyway, Last Stand, Origins, Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix spring to mind
@@tigerbread78 I liked days of future past, but the rest felt like made for tv.
But MCU is in top
Man this movie was in development hell and then when it came out people we're like oh well. That was all about nothing.

@@unclecreed2986 the movie definitely had stunning special effects
Anya Taylor-Joy was by far the best thing about this movie.
Loved her in The Queen's Gambit.
She was good. She played a very dislikeable character in New Mutants.
*only* good thing in the movie, and you can tell this movie didnt went through any reshoots, because she is a minor character...

So, you are saying I should check this out? I wasn't too sure and none of my friends seen this movie and I had no interest in it.

@@IDKeffect82 OK cool. Hey gimme your feedback. I'm curious
I remember that early horror-themed trailer, which looked really promising. See also the first trailer for Suicide Squad.
Nice
Never heard of or knew of this movie until today in April 2022 lol
6 years ago...I would’ve seen this day one, no question!!
2021, months after its release....haven’t even seen it yet
I didn't even know it had ever gotten its theatrical release! Disney+ should just stream it and call it a part of the MCU multiverse.
Although it's not great and it's not perfect, The New Mutants was still a good movie. I bought it on DVD 2 weeks ago.
Who buys DVDs anymore? Lol Pirated copies have better quality.
@@jothishprabu8 Because it at least gives some money back to creatives. Don't be cheap.
@@jothishprabu8 I still buy DVDs. I've been buying DVDs since 2004.
@@jothishprabu8 if a movie is really good I’d rather have a physical copy instead of relying on a stream service to have it when I wanna watch it
I watched this movie the other week and enjoyed it a lot. What puzzles me is the need to sell it as a horror movie when it isn't. It would've been better if this was marketed as sci-fi like the rest of the X-Men franchise. All the characters were portrayed exceedingly well and the story-arc was flawless, but for some reason the studio marketed as horror, where the antagonist is often the main character. Psyche was indeed the main character, but she was far from being the antagonist of the movie.
Somehow everybody seems to forget about Legion when listing all the X-Men related media, which is curious, since it's arguably the best product, next to Deadpool maybe...
I liked it. Not that there were many movies to watch this past summer anyways
this movies a guilty pleasure for me
I swear I’m the only person who genuinely likes this movie!
I like the idea of New Mutants, the whole Mutants in a "Friday the 13th" type of setting. I actually didn't hate this movie either, but it felt incomplete.
This was my first theatre experience after 9 yrs in prison. It was a gigantic disappointment. I shouldve just stayed until *no way home* 😅
At least JoBlo didn't blame the "whiny fanboys" this time like they did with Ghostbusters 2016.

Universal Studios is still sitting on the newest Bond movie. It was intended for an August 2020 release. Then it was pushed back to September. After that didn't go so well, Netflix made Universal two different and MASSIVE deals that Universal didn't accept. Netflix offered to buy the streaming rights for $650M, then reoffered the deal at a whopping $1.5B, but the studio really wanted and still wants a theatrical release.
Bear mutant got some hammers on her!!! Lol
We need more superhero horror movies
I hear BOOM and all I can think about is Mortal Kombat
hopefully an extended cut will release
Answer: It was released.
The Xmen characters don't seem to make as much money, but I hope they keep putting out new movies!
Anya Taylor-Joy playing a young Furiosa? Sign me up that sounds dope
Something that never seems to get mentioned about this film is the fact that the cast of characters that appear in it is the actual original line up of the team. Don't get me wrong,I haven't even seen this film, but I thought it was worth noting.
Damn... I was hoping for some word on when it'd be dropping on hbomax
i couldnt watch this movie further after i have seen that flying guy on a leash
Tbf breakfast club xmen sounds inspired
It was a decent movie and demon bear looked so bad ass!! Not every movie has to be an avengers over bloated world threat situation.
Boom there it is!🤣
I am so glad we never got to see hillbilly Channing Tatum playing Gambit.
This movie had 5 delayed releases in just 2 years!
Can you do wtf happened to bumblebee plz.
Both creators of the comic, Bob McLeod and Chris Claremont, hated this movie (which considering Chris Claremont defended Dark Phoenix is saying something). The worst part for them is how the movie whitewashed Roberto’s character and how the movie stripped Dani of her personality. Also they apparently didn’t even spell Bob McLeod’s name right in the credits.
Most people didn't want a horror mutants movie.
Obviously not comic book fans
They should've went full horror with this movie.
If they just would have stuck to the original source material 100%, it would have been a great movie. If they would have used the original introductory graphic novel as the basis for the film and made it a straight super-hero movie, it would have been awesome, but someone always has to screw with the source material and change things or cast the wrong person or re-write the characters or something. WHY can't we EVER have a super-hero movie that is TRUE to the original source material? WHAT is so HARD about doing that?
I think because studios like to pander to every possible audience to make MAXIMUM MONEY with every project, thus ruining it even for die-hard fans 🤷♂️
Marvel didn't follow comic at all.
I saw this in theater and I was the only one in the theater, not including the 4 or 5 staff members. Not just for this movie but the entire theater. The theater was making more money selling delivered Popcorn over the phone.
On to the movie. It was definitely unexpected. If you set aside the expected and see the movie for a stand alone, it would have broke even and made a little money on a 70 million budget if released under normal circumstances. When Anya is on my screen or a movie screen I go deer in the head lights. She has that power over me. The rest of the cast did their thing, played their role. I wouldn't call this a 'disaster' or any of the usual click bait bullshit. Victim of the pandemic for sure.
Wow! Never knew Fox execs reneg’ed from just elements of horror to wanting to go full on horror AFTER principal photography. Film making from the school of “Ready. Fire. Aim!”
“So.... now you want me to make the movie I originally wanted with principal photography from the movie you told me to make plus the reshoot budget...?” What a freaking disaster!
I’d love to see a Snyder cut of this movie...
I really liked the movie
As an XMen fan who has been collecting the comics since the 70's I knew The New Mutants well, but horror is not their main focus. Yes, Demon Bear had horror elements, but the majority of their stories were normal superhero fair. So when I saw that for their first outing they had picked pretty much the only horror story in The New Mutants catalogue of work I was very disappointed. All they wanted to do was twist the superhero image on screen to show they could use it for different styles, which is fair enough, but comedy (such as Deadpool) is much different than horror and is more accessible to the general audience than horror.
When’s the unpopular opinion video on James Cameron’s Avatar coming?
I liked the film.
the first xmen was the best and the writer is solid snake and he wrote the great watchmen
Wdym wtf happened to it, it came out only like 4 months ago
Wow, JoBlow went there.
yup!
All these delays and the movie turn out to be crap.
the movie studios are sooooooo wise.
It could’ve been a lot better if they stuck to the horror elements instead of throwing in a action scene at the end that doesn’t fit the tone. It had some actual scary moments though and I appreciate them trying something new.
I know that I did watch this movie because of Anya Taylor-Joy performance in the Queens Gambit, but I totally forgot about the story since it was so anemic.
I enjoyed it(unlike Dark Phoenix), New Mutants kinda reminded me of nightmare on elm street 3:Dream Warriors a little bit. The original plan for the film probably would've been a better product. Flaws aside, a sequel could've fixed some of the problems the 1st installment had.
0:21 More so than the Simpsons?
Fox fucked it up and had no idea how to fix it
“M. Night Shyamalan”... I’ve never heard it pronounced like that lol.
