The reference was that it's similar to Dawn of the Dead....they used Shaun instead so it'll be similar for that exact reason..

As the main characters huddle around Shaun holding the rifle in the Winchester as the first wave of zombies start to flow in, Shaun says "get behind me! Get behind me!" just like Han Solo in Star Wars, just as storm troopers are breaking though the doors of the cell block on the Death Star.

I know! I got really surprised and excited at that part and then I remembered that Brits have better tastes in music than Americans and that it wasn't that weird.
That's one of my favorite songs of all time.
People laugh at me when I say that this is my favorite movie. But it is. It's a rarified quality of filmmaking. It works on so many levels. On one hand, it's possible to enjoy it without knowing any of the references. On the other hand, the fact that pretty much every scene in the film contains some sort of reference while still forming a cohesive story is almost unbelievable. Think about most movies that try to reference and parody pop culture: they're usually complete trash, with the references taking the place of storytelling while mocking their source materials. In SotD, Wright offers a really solid, and sometimes even emotionally powerful narrative while also weaving in hundreds of references (many more than this video identifies) to other films. That shows how much Wright and Pegg genuinely love the pop culture they reference in this film.

I mean it's not really a reference, it's just a video game, but that was my favourite part seeing this movie for the first time all those years ago :) long live timesplitters!
And then it's worth a mention that Timesplitters 3 referenced Shaun of the Dead with Clip Clamps action "Do I Have Red On Me?"

It just means "turn it off" or "quieten it".

That is a reference - Simon Pegg has said as much. Their beating up the zombie during that scene also later became a staple of Edgar Wright's for the music and driving scenes of Baby Driver.
Some of these are super weak comparisons..

Umm... The walk by Simon Pegg with "the shadow", was actually a reference to the first time you see a zombie in "Day of the Dead". Not the reference you named. It's under the title in the beginning. The shuffle and then pan up to see the zombie let out a moan the same was Shaun does, only in Shaun's case it was just a yawn.

The Shawn shadow at :52 is referencing “Doctor Tongue” at the beginning of Day Of The Dead
The music at the end is "The Gonk" by Henry chappell. That piece stuck with me when I first saw it in the early 80's. I got the DVD in the 90's and since then "The Gonk" has been my ringtone for when my kids call.
Wasnt expecting the Spaced References in the vid. Well done.
Would've been nice to see a reference made to Jessica Hynes (nee Stevenson) cameo, as well as some of the other small cameos and zombies (Tamsin Greig, Martin Freeman, Bill Bailey, Matt Lucas, etc). Also the brilliant Shining hedge maze reference with Bill Nighy's stepdad character.

Most of these were pretty spot on, well done! One of my favorite movies, a cult classic for sure and now we see why! It was an amalgamation of edgar wrights love for zombie flicks.
I love how he’s talking about a British movie and when shaun says ‘DONT POINT THAT GUN AT MY MUM’ he puts it in the subtitles as Mom, this is a reference about Americans not knowing about any English language differences in other countries.
At least if we every get attacked by zombies, or germans again, or martians, we can use
guns. You will have to use cricket bats and old vinyl record albums .

You appear to have missed as many references as you cite. But then again it must be harder to get all of the English nuances if you're not a native.
Charlton Heston reference was more likely to do with the fact he was president of the NRA and David was now holding the gun.
Or more directly The Omega Man starring Charlton Heston.

The dart board and pool cue attacks in the Winchester are a throwback reference to the Darts Night poster and "Killer" pool tournament advertised on the wall when Shaun is drowning his sorrows earlier in the film.

Also the "zombies" were actually breathing people called background actors who were fans of spaced tv show who were told to audition at fan meet of the show
I agree that it could be considered a parody. But I really feel like this one was so much more than just a parody. I mean there's obvious moments that are clearly parody of something that came before. But parody to me seems to be more like making fun of something. And while Shaun of the Dead absolutely pokes fun at many zombie films and for sure definitely makes references to other zombie films especially Romero but I've always seen Shaun of the Dead as a standalone comedy about zombies that pays more homage to zombie films that came before. I think it's more than a parody. Other than that this video is awesome. Actually even including that the videos awesome but I digress, Edgar Wright's movies are just packed full of small little details like this and I freaking love it so thank you for pointing out even more that I'd never noticed myself

With Shaun waking up in the morning I always took that more of a reference to the opening of Day of the Dead with the iconic shot of the zombie missing the lower part of his jaw. Which is also the first zombie we see in Day of the Dead. So there's a parallel between being introduced to our major characters in both films, Shaun in Shaun of the Dead and the zombies in Day of the Dead
The slow moving feet in that scene, is done in Spaced, and is a reference to One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.
you missed when they are hitting the zombie in the pub to the rhythm of the queen song "dont stop me now" is a directed reference to clockwork orange
What's even better about the Charlton Heston reference is that Heston was one of the most famous supporters of guns' rights, exactly after the character took the gun. Love it.

The tension created to scare is similar to the tension created to make an audience laugh. That's why horror and comedy can go together so well.
