@@NotesReviews Haha, I know! Thanks man, I can perfectly live with this. The Final Experiment was indeed my first experiment, although I like the songs I was still unexperienced and searching. And yes, Transitus should have been a side-project, or rather a movie. Glad you like Human Equation that much. My biggest problem with that album is the production (drums!). But… coincidentally I’m re-mixing the whole thing right now, and it’s sounding so much better! You know your business, excellent analysis. Keep up the good work 😊
I think the final experiment is a fully successful experiment to be honest... the story, the music are so well put together... it is really a solid record...
10. Transitus 9. Actual Fantasy 8. The Final Experiment 7. The Source 6. Into the Electric Castle 5. Universal Migrator Part 2: Flight of the Migrator 4. Universal Migrator Part 1: The Dream Sequencer 3. The Theory of Everything 2. 01011001 1. The Human Equation
I would place 01 above Human Equation, but the Theater Equation is incredible and well worth any rewatch. Also, Annek v Giersbergen is not on Human equation, only on the live Theater Equaition, because the original singer for 'fear' wasn't into doing acting
Oh man! The one album I listened in full was 01101011 but after watching this, I just have this urge to go through the full discography! I meant to go through the albums a while back but just never got around to it The Sixth Extinction is one of my all time favorite tracks, especially the section with Jonas from Katatonia 🔥

Yep, that's the order of my top 10 too. I was starting to think it might just be me. These days I only listen to 01 & The Source on a regular basis (along with the live compilation video). 01 is the only Ayreon in my top 10 of all time. It is truly is a very special record - I use Comatose & Waking dreams as audiophile standards when comparing high end headphones as the sound quality is just so good.
The first one I bought was The Human Equation. It got me into Devin Townsend. The second one was Into the Electric Castle. I loved both albums. I finally bought The Theory of Everything as my third album. But I have only listened to it once. And that’s where I stopped. I felt three albums were enough. Then I heard Flaming Row whose has similar albums with concept stories and rock operas with lots of guests. And that was good! I think to go further might water down my impression of these kinds of albums.
I only really skimmed through this video but I do think our rankings are almost exactly identical. Personally, my top 2 are Electric Castle and Human Equation, but yeah, we're pretty much on the same page otherwise! Human Equation is #1, and it got me into so many artists, particularly Devin Townsend... never would've heard of him if not for that album! Basically, I'd swap 01011001 and Electric Castle and THAT'S IT.
I love the Source so I'd put it above, but I still have to listen to the Universal Migrator (both parts) and The Human Equation, I only know the live tracks from Ayreon Universe. Otherwise I agree with most of your thoughts
Nice..my top 10: ( I do like them all except nr 10, I still can't embrace after all these years, just a few songs i listen to. 1. 10100110 2. Into the Electric Castle 3. The Source 4. The Human Equation 5. Theory of Everything 6. Transitus 7. Final Experiment 8. The Dream Sequencer 9. Flight of the Migrator 10. Actual Fantasy
I know I'll be in the minority here, but I actually love Transitus, and would have it in my top 3 with The Theory of Everything and Electric Castle. Musically very different from what came before, but still has enough Ayreon DNA to make it shine, with outstanding performances from Tommy and Simone especially, and has some outstanding songs throughout its story, in Hopelessy Slipping Away, Listen to my Story, This Human Equation etc. And Tom Baker is an absolute star with his awesome narration. So happy that at least one song was included in the encores of the last live shows to show how amazing a full album show could be.
his name is pronounced Ar-Yun. 😉 Transitus was initially intended as a film and not as an album, but due to covid-19 and a limited budget, the project is not quite what Arjen expected.
Electric Castle is my fav for sure, but other than that I agree with your rankings. I think Transitus is easily the worst - it’s the only album I haven’t listened to since it came out.
I'd take the Final Experiment over the Human Equation all day long. Am I wierd? Transitus should be #10 easily. Also Migrator part one is fucking amazing
Okay... okay... I'll watch it soon! Just afraid about the worst 🙂
There are no worst! Just ones I love less 😉

@@ArjenALucassenoh jeez look who it is. Thanks for the great albums over the years my guy.

A remix of Human Equation??????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah... The Human Equation. No other album was as instrumental in getting me to both love prog rock, Devin Townsend, and psychology. Great stuff!

A solid ranking! Excited for people to see us talk about Electric Castle!!
That was a superb ranking and analysis.
We are in 100% agreement when it comes to the number 1 spot, absolute masterpiece.

I just snagged a copy of The Human Equation yesterday at a used record store for $6. Such a brilliant album!
aahhhhh the Jim Steinmen of prog
Anneke was only on the live version of the human equation. She was in 01 and Electric Castle though
Electric castle is the best for me.. Love it. The live version he did is even better.

Transitus is a strange one. I really like it but it's not really Ayreon, so where would I rank it? I've never got into Actual Fantasy at all.
Got just 2 studioalbums and 2 livealbums for the overview.
I definitely need to spend some time with this catalog

Great list, mine would be similar except bumping Electric Castle to the top and Actual Fantasy up a couple spots just for Abbey of Synn 🤘
I kinda agree with your ranking, but Electric Castle is still my favourite. Thx, good video ❤

shocked to see the final experiment so low. To me actual fantasy is easily ayreon's worse

Do Black Sabbath next
Not the ranking we deserved but the ranking we needed
Worst transitus(still decent but nos as an ayreon record)...best....the rest
