With all these SNES ROM improvements, surely there’s a way to make 4-Player Super Off Road for SNES a reality.
Exactly my thoughts
I just did a search for something along the lines of this and instead of finding a patch to make it 4 player, I found GeneRally instead. gene-rally.com/ Looks like nobody's done it yet!
As a developer I can tell you thats too big of a design change to just hack in, would have to be completely rewritten
I want someone to make Magic Sword for the SNES two players
@@videogameattic Not a developer, but this has been done with other games before, like Secret of Evermore. What makes it so much harder in this case?
Underrated GEM of a game. Co-op Campaign mode? Cash prizes? 16 tracks? Good music?
YES
You’re the only one uploading fresh content during my morning commute, so grateful for that.
Keep your eyes on the road
GT6SuzukaTimeTrials not a lot of road to look at from my subway car, but I’ll do my best!
Tim Follin did a banging rendition of the old Toyota "I love what you do for me" jingle on the upgrade screen. That's enough of a reason to play this right here
There was a GameCube port of this included in the Midway Arcade Treasures 2 compilation. My understanding is that that version was a faithful port of the original arcade release and if memory serves it supported 4 players. Me and a couple of friends discovered this beauty for the first time around 2008 and had great fun.
3:14 "Huevos Grande"
Lol
Dude! Your vids are PERFECT! Just long enough to get a good feel for a game without going too overboard. Zero fluff. Love it! Keep up the great work!
The most fucked up thing about the SNES version of Super Off-Road is they removed Ivan Stewarts from the game and replaced him with Mickey Thompson, a (then) recently murdered off road racer, more so they did it without the family's permission and still gave all the royalties to Stewarts!!!
Snes gang gang is savage af!
Ohhhh maaan, this game and Baja take me waaay back. One of the very first arcade games I've ever played.
I absolutely love this damn game, and you know what else? I absolutely love this damn channel too!
*You* have a great rest of your day too, brother.
I play this with my wife all the time. When we were dating we bonded over this game so it's fond memories for me. Good stuff
Yes sir it is
Cool dude later
4:07 OK that is some genuinely impressive abuse of Mode 7. I can't think of another SNES racer which actually had rolling terrain like that.
Jason Blalock ngl it looks kinda good but honestly stuff like F zero looks far more appealing
Mode 7 in games usually tended to keep things flat but then you had games like that and Simpsons Road Rage on GBA that didn't care and pushed Mode 7 to insanity
@@jignjorf9076 I didn't even know SNES mode 7 could work on multiple planes like that.
That isn't mode 7.
This game pre-dates mode 7.
Content suggestion: The 4-player NES games.
Great suggestion! I never once encountered a 4-player adapter when I was a kid.
@@knyght27 great fun. Played the NES version of this and NES Play Action Football with it.
It also had a wicked long cord, so we use to keep it plugged in and just use it as an extension so we didn't have to move the chairs to play games
Agreed the NES 4 player one is amazing. Wish the snes had 4
New vid from 3 of my fav channels, SNESdrunk comes first.
There's a single-screen, top down racer called Battle Cross that has a similar feel to Super Off-Road (with some battle elements added) and supports up to 5-players. It's Japan only, but pretty easy to navigate. Recently played it with some friends and highly recommend it.
I believe L and R on the SNES version do 'sharp' turns. Should give you the edge to only lose to 1 cpu instead of 2 :)
that is correct, snesdrunk isnt too good at this game if the yellow car is lapping him up. If you time these sharp turns right as well you can get a speed boost around turns.
@@videogamepolak0 all about timing. Love the snes for those games.
How to enjoy a good morning:
-Get a cup of coffee
-Listen to five seconds of SNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.
:D
Jokes aside i always watch these videos while taking my breakfast
Me too. but I miss the less irritating original version.
This is one of my favorite arcade games, ever. I could play for hours on a quarter in my prime, as the red truck, of course. And, I swear, that silver truck would drive at light speed if you're in the lead.
Got a lot of fun with this game back at the 90s
The fact it has Toyota commercial music in it is good enough for me.
I used to have this on the PC and did get to play it on the SNES when I rented it out a few times as a kid and absolutely loved it!
I constantly played this game with my older brother as a kid. Absolutely loved it at the time.
I love this game! My parents used to own a candy store/coffee shop when I was a kid and we had this, NBA jam and rampart in the back. When we were closed I could open the games up and play for free and to this day they are some of my favorite games ever.
Woah, I've actually never heard of 'Brutal: Paws of Fury'! By the way - those car sprites/animations look really good
I never heard of that game either. Maybe it was a regional thing.
Thought I was the only one
Off Road and Off Road Baja was my favorite growing up. My brothers and I spent hours playing those 2 games!!!
Memories indeed. I remember "The Baja" being part of what convinced me to take the plunge and ask my folks for a SNES as a kid (and get it I did, with that game as a rental!), and later I ended up with a copy of this one as well! Heh, I totally remember misinterpreting some line in the manual to where I thought this game had an ending. I was wrong, of course, but MAN did I last a while before I finally scored that second fourth-place finish that took me out of the game for good.
I loved this game as a kid, amazing soundtrack and hours of fun. Me and my wee bro battled it out all the time 10/10. Love your content as well always fresh and enjoyable 👌🏻😊
It's awesome that you mentioned Funcoland. I used to work there, the days before GameStop. I was lucky to preview so many new games and enjoy the classics. Love the channel.
I have always loved these top-down racers. Super Off-Road, Super Sprint, even stuff like RC Pro-Am and Micro Machines...Radical Psycho Machine Racing and Rock 'n Roll Racing for the SNES.. I miss games like these.
When my brother and I were kids, our dad would sometimes take us to basketball games at the university. During half-time we'd leave the gymnasium and wander the halls of campus. Our favourite place to go was a small arcade. I don't remember what else was there, I think there may have been a pinball table or two, but what really caught out interest was the Super Off Road arcade machine. The three of us would drop in a bunch of quarters and have a grand old time.
Weird memory but I spent a lot of time on greyhound buses in my 20s and always wound up spending a lot of time on layovers at the Seattle downtown greyhound station where they had a very abused OffRoad cabinet that I would always pump a lot of quarters into so this game gets associated with a lot of strange and interesting memories for me.
I loved this game. I played it on the cool arcade cabinet with steering wheel and on a friend's DOS PC.
Agree that this game seemed to be everywhere back then, especially the arcade version. It wasn't just in arcades, but also pizza restaurants and other places.
And as SNES drunk says, that gray truck does appear to give the most trouble. Just looking at the video, I am questioning why does that gray truck move so fast and not even the slopes and turns appear to make it slow down?
I don't care about being first or second or whatever. I just want to say that I had a blast playing Super Off-Road back in the day.
I remember playing off road at the local bowling alley since it had a steering wheel and gas pedal witch was cool when you where a kid to pretend to drive, oh the nostalgia is crazy here
I absolutely love this game! It's one of my favorite racing games of all time! I used to play it all the time as a kid...and I still do!
First summer after high school graduation I worked as a lifeguard at Hurricane Harbor and my mom was the Food & Bev director for Six Flags Magic Mountain so I was able to go to this silent auction in the Games department and I won several arcades. I got Off Road (with the 3 steering wheels), X-Men and PAC Man. I almost won the Simpsons. Plus I only paid $450 for all 3!!
Tim and Geoff Follin could make any game rock. Same goes for Tommy Tallarico and Yuzo Koshiro.
I did like Off Road: The Baja though. That scrolling was actually a textured polygon (or some trick that made it appear that way) instead of just your typical scaling sprite-based track like Outrun et al.
I remember this game being in so many arcades back in the 90s. It was a lot of fun! I think I played it once on Sega Genesis through the Sega channel cartridge as well
Would be funny to see Al Unser's Road to the Top
I loved this game, it was one of the first games i stayed up overnight to play with a friend.
I have this game on Midway Arcade 3 for PS2. Enjoyed it a lot as a kid.
This brings back memories. Back in junior high, my best friend and I would always stay at each other's houses and play this and Super C all night.
Cool I just bought this game last month because I forgot I missed playing it so much! Nice to see a review of it!
It wasn't too bad, but Super Off-road 'The Baja' was something special.
I'm not the biggest fan of racing games in this perspective, as they're always a challenge to control, and Super Off Road is no exception. However, it does a decent job once you've spent some time with it, and I love the animation of the trucks bouncing around over the various bumps on the track. It's a great representation of off road trucks in a simple presentation. I really wish this game was a little easier, or at least offered an easier mode, as winning money and upgrading your truck is fun, but this is one of those games where the faster you go, the easier it to make a mistake. The AI is just brutally difficult.
This is one of those games I come back to every so often because I remember how fun it can be, only to play it for a relatively short time before getting completely frustrated by the overly difficult AI. Maybe I give up too easily, but I like to win a race every so often. As it is, just navigating around the track without crashing or over-steering is enough of a challenge in itself.
I only played the NES version, but man we played it at sleep-overs all night and it was awesome!
4 player adapter was called the 'multi-tap' back in the day. My bro purchased the limited edition Bomberman version of it which was really cool. Like you say, this game came out before it so no support which is a shame.
this game really is seemingly everywhere isn’t it? right now it is seemingly inside of the storage tote that i carry my snes and its accompanying games in. i don’t even remember buying or being gifted it as a kid.
Check out Valfaris, it’s on Steam and current consoles. It’s a pixel game that looks amazing and it’s old school NES hard. It’s challenging yet rewarding and beautiful to look at.
Any body who lived in Kuwait during the 90's would remember this game in the Future Kids Arcade. You always bring back the best memories of childhood!
One of my big childhood games. I don't know how many times I rented this game, but the music was etched into my brain. It's a bit unfortunate top-down "Super Sprint" style games faded out by the time the sequels were in development, but it was understandable due to technology marching on.
I remember this game 30 years ago. I had the game genie and you could do an infinite nitro cheat code. Really cool game. Thanks for uploading
One of all time favorites. Awesome in the arcades
Thank God you don't do a deal with the devil (Raid : Shadow Legends)
Awesome video. I remember this game being played grown ups all the time at my local arcade way back when.
I had this game and it was a blast playing two player. Once you get maxed out upgrades, it becomes easier, but the ai is really tough
This game looks like so much fun that I'm going to go play with my Micro Machines!
I believe the popularity/lack of much popularity this channel fits the content perfectly.
It's worth it only for Tim Follin's music!
as a kid, i lost a baby tooth turning the steering wheel of an off road arcade cabinet with my mouth. it was at the top of the seattle space needle
My Dairy Queen near my house as a kid had this game in the back. I loved it to death but hadn't seen it in maybe 20 years or so until finding in recently again in a barcade in my hometown during a trip. It's incredibly fun and visceral as an arcade game, because you can go crazy spinning the steering wheels when you turn. I can confirm the ports are pretty good too, though. I've got it on Game Gear and it's actually quite decent even there.
I lived down the street from that old funco land. Would always window shop there after the family ate at O.C.B...:)
I love that you mentioned FunkoLand. I loved that store. RIP FunkoLand.
You really remember those Paws Of Fury ads huh lol and this is the racing truck game I couldn't think of!!!! Thought I played this on regular Nintendo!! That's how young I was!
I used to have the NES port of this game as a kid.
And there was a boardwalk arcade I would go to every time my family took a trip to the beach. And the arcade version of Off-Road was there. And I played all of the time. I probably spent 50 bucks in quarters on this arcade game in my youth making sure my initials were at the top of the high scores screen.
In the 90s, I found a glitch in the SNES version where if you have a game genie on it and no codes or the switch off, the gray truck isn't crazy fast and the yellow truck just fidgets around.
One of the first games I rented for the SNES. I always liked it.
Will you talk about the other 4x4 game in this series? Super Off Road The Baja, is a decent fun little game and cheap too! I bought it because the cover with the Toyota Baja truck looked amazing
Me and some friends had some good times renting 'The Baja' once or twice. We thought it was funny how the when you make a big jump, using a nitro I think, the announcer would yell "ARRIBA!"
Ahhhh... I remember going to Blockbuster video on Fridays and renting games like this for the weekend. The nostalgia!
I LOVE Super Off Road! It's not a blockbuster by any stretch, but it's a solid game, and it was always a great rental title to get for the weekend when the new games got taken on Saturday morning. I always enjoy playing it from time to time as it definitely has that "pick up and play" mechanic to it. I'd like to see a new one in this style sometime!
God id nearly forgotten this game. Played it so much as a kid.
Awww yeah, this was a classic on the NES for me and my brother. My local arcade also installed an Offroad cabinet and MAN is it fun
From the second you said the silver car was the fastest I couldn't help myself but stare at that thing and watch it destroy everyone else in every single race. Did your voiceover continue after that? Dunno, might have missed it. Still a great watch
One of my all time favorites. This was and will ALWAYS be worth playing!!
I thought this game was a dream! I remember seeing this at a birthday party as a child.
Along with this game......Turbo Outrun was one of my favourite games......never saw a good port of it though.
I always upvote this game.. Whether is the c64.. The nes version or the snes version
A lot of fun and funny memories playing this game with friends. This soundtrack is just so good.
I'm in bed sick, this just what the doctor ordered. Thanks Dr.Drunk. that's probably a combination that normally shouldn't go together.
I've only played the NES version and loved it, and IT ACTUALLY SUPPORTS 4 PLAYERS. Honestly unless you just need the SNES soundtrack I'd just recommend that one
As a party game it's fun stuff. We use to take it to about Race 115ish before switching over to Mario 3
He briefly mentioned it in the review and he didn't like the quality of that port. I don't like that one either. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're desperate for a four-player game on a console. But that's just my opinion, and if you like that version, that's fine.
Loved the arcade version of this game with its steering wheel controls.
Yes. Yes it is. One of my favorite game of all time.
i think it's my 3rd favorite racing game on the snes. f-zero, mario kart, super off road
My school had the arcade for this in our cafeteria in 1999 and we played the hell out of it.
I loved this game as a kid. ^^
The grey CPU truck, my god. I still have PTSD because of him. The sucker had a million nitros.
I first played this in my local arcade a year ago, its alot of fun
Also just do a video on snes racing games as a whole, like you did with shmups and platformers
I fucking loved this game at the arcade when I was a kid!!!! I pumped so many quarters into this every time.
I've probably said it before, but, best intro ever lol
God i was obsessed with this game growing up.
Me and my bro loved super off road, that's why we love rock'n racing off road dx on switch
Speaking of the music in this port, the old "I love what you do for me Toyota" jingle is in there.
Total length of video: 335 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 5.5 secs.
1.64% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk".
Great math thanks doood
NEEEEEERRRRD!
whats wrong with you
Which is unfortunally. I wish it could be 100% of the video.
This was a most excellent SNES Drunk harmony. We are blessed!
Almost any racing game can be won by matching the speed of the fastest car and using racelines when driving , which keeps the vehicle moving in a straightest possible line and shortest distance around the track. If you can steer the race lines and can match speed with the number one car, you will win. Doesnt matter what game.speed and steering.
Peace be upon you, even though I am Arabic and I do not know the English language, but I liked the good video introduction, thank you.I love video games, but I want to know exactly what the channel’s content is.
Tim Follin's music is always amazing. Totally made this game even better.
Hey! My brother won a copy of this from a Nintendo Power contest! Neat.
the baja has SICK graphics
Wow this takes me back, what a great nostalgic game!
