Negative symptoms put my life to a halt. I went from working out daily and running, to sleeping 10+ hours a day and barely leaving my room. Then the voices and delusions came...
Jacob, thank you for sharing your experiences with us. My son is 24. He was diagnosed when he was 18, just before graduating HS. He takes the Invega injection and he recognizes when he needs it. Like you, he has educated himself about his condition and understands that his brain works differently than neurotypicals. Sounds like you probably have a good support system of family and friends too. Best wishes and many thanks!
My son was on Olanzapine (Zyprexa) as his first med. It settled down his positive symptoms and anxiety and gave him room to rest and recover. He gained about 40 lbs, which was the least of our worries. After a year it just stopped working for him. We tried two other meds and then found Seroquel (Quetiapine). That's worked well for 2 years. It's more dangerous though; that tremor he's talking about is a very dangerous symptom and can become permanent. Some users experience liver damage. So don't rag on your prescribers too hard if they hold off on Seroquel. They don't want to make things worse.
i'm glad to see you back and that the medication is working out good for you. i can imagine the frustration it must be going from med to med and dosage to dosage to find the right combination. hope your mom is doing ok too!
I've found your videos fairly recently, but glad to know I am not the only one who has had a terrible time on Abilify. My side effects on it were similar to yours, complete lack of any energy/appetite and it made me constantly angry. It really scared me off drugs for a long time, but due to symptoms worsening with stress or symptoms causing more stress (it's hard to tell sometimes), I'll be going back to a psychologist for the first time in years. Keep up the good effort, and congratulations on quitting the smoking habit. My longest time without was about 3 months... stay strong.
Glad to see your posting again. Hold on man i have been there is tought. And as soon as I thought that, you said it yourself you felt like a zombie. It was horrible. I was also on ablify or how ever you spell it. That stuff made me worse, I was even worse with depression. Now I'm 19 and I've found stuff to help. Like music.
If you find your negative symptoms are getting the better of you, consider asking your doctor about modafinil or perhaps even ritalin. It may seem counterintuitive to give someone prone to psychosis stimulants (if you can even call modafinil a stimulant), but there is evidence they can help. Not a nice way of treating anxiety. But... treatment is hit and miss and it always makes me happy when someone finds a med that suits them, even if some sides are still annoying. Also yes, I feel there is a balance between where the med helps just barely. Personally I prefer med dosages that do just enough to make it possible for me to cope, I have seen so many people drugged far beyond that and it scares me a little. Sure, they do not have much symptoms but they don't have much life fun either.
My love of Seroquel runs pretty deep. I cried in the doctor's office when she suggested once she take me off of it. Literally wouldn't be here without it.

Not sure if it was just my symptoms or my medication. Thanks for being a content creator too by the way. Just going through all your videos again.
I started taking Seroquel 2 weeks ago during an inpatient stay to manage Bipolar symptoms. I started having panic attacks everyday, so I'm in the process of weaning myself off. Glad it's been effective for you.
ABILIFY SUCKS AT TREATING SCHIZOPHRENIA. I was on it and it didn't help the psychotic symptoms at all. Just made my racing thoughts even faster. The only thing good about is that it's part anti-depressant.
I've been on almost the same medication and I'm bipolar, feels weird that they use the same meds for two different conditions. Abilify fucked me up, I got really bad mouth dryness and because of that I wanted to kill myself, when it's painful to drink water it's a bit too much, I couldn't eat either. Olanzapin is for my mania and I remember once they had to increase the dosage when I was becoming manic anyway it made me really tired, I remember sitting at work and almost falling asleep, that was after I stopped taking abilify. Then I have lithium that makes my hands shake, that's annoying, otherwise I don't have any issues with my medication. I'm glad that you're back, I love watching your videos!
@@yungsong1646 hello, with Seroquel I was like a zombie. Seems like negative symptoms of schizophrenia are way more helped with : Amisulpride in low dosage (50mg or under), Clozapine, sometimes Olanzapine. Did you have this negative symptoms like a secondary effect of your medication, or like a consequence of your schizophrenia ? Because in my case (bipolar), I get negative symptoms (anhedonia, slow and weird thinking, ect) because of the medication. So I was wondering if it's like that in schizophrenia too.
abilify was nothing for me. seroquel turns me into a zombie. i went to work on it a couple of times and people were all worried about me and said i acted like a completely different person
Congrats on turning 20 man! Very interesting video, as always. I have a question, does schizophrenia limit you when it comes to making friends/getting to know new people? and if so, in what way?
It does. You withdrawl and isolate with this illness and lose your personality sometimes. I became blank with no emotions. It's hard to find people who want a friend like that or to date someone like that lol
Im on a high dosage of zoloft and I get shaking with that too, its annoying but im used to it didn't help my nursing career though hahah and glad to hear you have a girlfriend, youre such a cutie!
bipolar here. I used to be on seraquel 100 mg in the morning and 200 mg in the evening and it knocked me the fuck out. Even worse then zyprexa in some ways. Now I'm not on any of them but I have a stash of Seraquel for when I'm going suicidal. 100 g of instant releasing seraquel makes me a zombie in less then 10 min and I can't do anything, including hurting myself. Then you just fall asleep. But I'm glad it's working for you!
my friend is bipolar and he takes some medication that really slows him down. if he goes off it only for a few days, he'll slip into a psychotic episode that can last for weeks. i feel so bad for him
Try sulphide ,I was on it for 20 years. Very few side effects. Make sure you always have a carer because if you miss medication for over two months. You won't be able to recover, that's why you need someone to look after your medication and be aware if you haven't taken it.
Interesting to hear u don't like zyprexa, I'm on it and it's my favorite, but I guess it depends on the body chemistry, I can't take neurontin, it makes me roll my eyes , I am bipolar and I have been on a lot of Meds too, but u seem to be doing really well, congrats on ur new girlfriend ! Take care! And thanks for doing ur videos!
well shit. I've just been prescribed risperdal. I'm to take half a milligram for now. as for seroquel, I draw shit and I don't like the sound of my accuracy being impaired. also what are your thoughts on Peter Breggin? He's not against the idea that mental problems exist, he's against the drugs.
I cant remember the name of the medication i was on but it cause a severe nervousness system breakdown (I think that's what they called it} and i was paralyzed it started in my feet and i walked out to the nurses station and they said i was fine. then i was having trouble walking and my neck muscles started to clench. It was so terrifying they had to bring me to the quiet room and give me a bunch of shots. I remember laying they unable to do anything.
I'm on zyprexa but I don't have schizophrenia. Im on it for my anorexia and trouble sleeping. Maybe it works better for that because its my favorite out of the meds I have to take. It does make you incredibly sleepy, but I have insomnia so thats why I like it. Also helps with obsessive thoughts because it calms my mind. I can see how it would make you feel like a zombie because of its calming effect.

It's great to see you again :) hope you're doing well! And the quality is a lot better than it was :)))
Thank you :)
abilify was nothing for me. seroquel turns me into a zombie. i went to work on it a couple of times and people were all worried about me and said i acted like a completely different person
It's hard to find people who want a friend like that or to date someone like that lol
yay he's back :) been waiting for ages lol
Im on a high dosage of zoloft and I get shaking with that too, its annoying but im used to it didn't help my nursing career though hahah and glad to hear you have a girlfriend, youre such a cutie!
My birthday was 3 days ago as well and I also turned 20 haha so happy belated bday!
Video games and music really help me so does drawing 😊
Nice to see you back :)
My boyfriend and I have been together for almost three years and we both have autism 😊
Good to see you're holding up, though I hope you're not too hindered by the tremors.
Awesome new video!
It's not too bad, just a little annoying.
Happy for you in your relationship Jacob! I'm so glad to see things are looking up for you :-)
Glad to see a new video
Hope you enjoyed it
Have you ever tried Latuda? I'm on it and have had great success with almost no symptoms of my MI and almost no side effects.
bipolar here.
But I'm glad it's working for you!
nice hair cut looking good
My hubby is on Seroquel. He gets severe mania so he is on thorazine as well. He said Abilify had the same affect on him.
I hate socializing too and always isolate myself
hi i alway watch ur vids glad to see u ..hope u doing great ... i have a mental problem but dont know witch it is but it helps watching u
my friend is bipolar and he takes some medication that really slows him down. if he goes off it only for a few days, he'll slip into a psychotic episode that can last for weeks. i feel so bad for him
Try sulphide ,I was on it for 20 years. Very few side effects. Make sure you always have a carer because if you miss medication for over two months. You won't be able to recover, that's why you need someone to look after your medication and be aware if you haven't taken it.
Good vibes, my friend.
I got ADD ... and used to take Concerta
back that time i was depressed cuz of bullies and my parents claimed the meds made me suicidal
Seroquel worked good for my schizophrenia for many years too.
well shit. I've just been prescribed risperdal. I'm to take half a milligram for now.
as for seroquel, I draw shit and I don't like the sound of my accuracy being impaired.
also what are your thoughts on Peter Breggin? He's not against the idea that mental problems exist, he's against the drugs.
Jacob can we have part two of this?
Good to see you again :)
Hallo
Maybe you should try smoking pot it gives you the munchies.
Thank you for letting us in your world. Difficult illness.
