Mmmm not sure on this Del. It reminds me of a shopping trolly, I can’t imagine it would be too safe in a crash
Just might stab you in the throat and make it quick and painless! This has to be what he was going for?
Symetrical oppositness. You mean mirrored! lol.
Chirality.
Just plain old "Symmetry".
Good work but in my opinion (like that counts) the fairing is too high after todays work. I liked it better when it was lower.
I agree. I think if he watches the video he will see from our perspective. He could take it down to the second curved level for the actual fairing and use the top piece for a mold to form the windshield with.
Weld on little tabs in each section of the fairing and fill the spaces with perforated aluminum mesh.
Loving this build so far ! :-)
Stay tuned mate, you're pretty much on the money!
@@Moonfleet41 looking forward to seeing it mate.
Don't see the point in covering it in fibreglass, you'd be as well just bolting on a Gixer fairing 😜
cant wait for the finished project!
How about treating it like an airplane skeleton and using cloth and dope?
Looks brilliant. Happy planning for the skin! Something airship like about that fairing.
Looking fantastic del 👍
Looking great, gonna be superb from some of the ideas you are toying with. Thanks :)
Your level 'point of reference' - that's how we 'Eye-up' angle beads when plastering in old & new houses ...... always looks right - never fails :-)
Starting to fit like a glove👊
Looks great Del. Getting excited to see it completed.
Sturdier than anything out these days, my fairing exploded into green confetti, this will survive forever!! Go exo!
Canvas! Like a vintage aeroplane
Looks huge but I'm reserving judgement Del as you always seem to come up smelling of roses! Very impressed with your skill and workmanship.
Thanks mate, stick with it, it will come together in the end!
Made my dull Tuesday more interesting❤️
Nice Dell...looking forward to seeing what you do with it next.
That bike is looking amazing, can't wait to see the end result 👌👍
Looking awesome, I wouldn't know where to start.
Very clever del, lovely job. Respect. 👍👍👍
Brilliant update, you the man
It's got "exoskeleton" written all over it Del - go for it - "nothing ventured" and all that? Thanks as always for sharing!
Yeah, its too sexy to cover up aye.!
Hi Dell, the framework looks fab but not sure how you will fare with a skin. This might be a little late but have you thought of using the old wire and felt pipe cleaners to help you form a shape, might be helpful for you in the future. I'm waiting with baited breath for the next episode of Hyabussa build. Have a great weekend, catch you later.
Thanks Andy, formulating a plan for the skin, something simple and effective, got a couple of supplemental videos inbetween, should be back on it in a week!
I just commented on your other video yesterday and saw your reply to watch today's video. Now I totally get it haha! The center bar finally makes sense to me. It looks KILLER!
Thanks buddy, it's sometimes difficult as we know what we're doing, but we've not loaded the video yet, thanks for sticking with it, much appreciate your support mate!
EXCELENTE 👌👍🙏
Saludos desde Miami Florida
That is one bad-ass frame! I agree, it would be ashame to cover it up.
Your attention to details and symmetry is impressive!!
Looking forward to the next step 👍
Hi Harold, wonderful to hear from you, and thank you for your kind words, I think no matter how raggedy something looks, if it's totally symmetrical and square, then you can live with it day to day... well I certainly can anyway!
Awsome job del love it..
Looking good! Great ideas and I'm curious to see how you will fabricate this and how it looks... success.
Before you mentioned it I was thinking how cool an exoskeleton would look, as that frame is so impressive!
I was expecting that frame to weigh as much as a bus though, haha :-)
Love how this is coming along!
Turning a barn find into a barnstormer!
Hey Martin, that's very nice of you, I though you were going to say a barn door, pip pip ol' chap!
Awesome doesn’t look to big keep it as small as you have, looking forward to seeing it completed great job
Thanks Steven, good to hear form you as always..
That frame looks sweet 👌👌
I have a 750 slabside Del, the front frame you have made looks very similar but of course has your own twist on it. Looks Wicked, well done!
Thanks Danny, it was never going to look identical hanging on a Hayabusa as the bike's almost a foot wider which will always distort the lines, but am very honoured that you consider it a close copy mate!
SUZUK in Japanese means BAD ASS. Great looking lines on that fairing, Del.
Thank you Sir, I reckon it does! It's certainly a look I'm going for... take care, and ride safe, always good to hear from you, D&Px
Te felicito, quedo excelente y es buena idea que quede como exoesqueleto. Pienso que en láminas de aluminio quedaría fantástico! Saludos desde México...
When you were talking at the start, whatever you were on can I have some. Loved the excitement of the anticipation of what you had to do.. its lookin good, what about making an internal plug and carbon fibre it. but looking good.
yeah. new video. many thanks. I really like your videos))
Looking good 👍🏻
I think when you come back to it you might see that the top curve and bar work is a little out of balance and too tall for the rest of the bike unless you are planning Dakar ;) Maybe a 1/2" strip along the first curve above the headlight to attach a low screen (or maybe no screen) will be better balanced. Definitely skin the outside and keep the smooth lines of the 'Busa, rat rod or not.
Good idea but it's a frazzle higher on the right but looks great on tablet can't wait to see the finished product
Hey that looks great actually Mate. You are not frightened to have a go at anything it seems. Well Done Del.
No indeed, if you don't try, you never know aye?!
I just want to say Del, what a beautiful piece of work as well as the absolute attention to details and your eye to symmetry 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 amazing mate. I have to admit, at the beginning of the last video I was a bit sceptical but you quickly made attention to the top central bar, and now we can see the stunning idea you had in that very wise grey mass they call brain lol. Once again, hat off to you sir.
Thank you my friend, I often have to bite my toungue to the critics, as so many like to pull the trigger when it's only half finished! Glad you're enjoying it, and thanks for your support.
Is it wrong that i like both of the channels,
Keep it up, fairing looks awesome also I really like your presentation style
Not quite sure what you mean Naitra, we only have one channel, and no affiliation to any other,, but thank you for your kind support anyway.. Del.
I like the idea of the top part being clear Perspex like a windscreen with the other parts wrapped in fiber glass but perhaps some seperate panels in the middle👍
I was thinking the same
I love it good job again so cool till next time bring it on 👍👍👍🏍🏍
keep up the great work!
Skin it with distressed thick belt type leather hand stitched would be bad ass . love your work brother confidence is everything God bless.
Cheers brother, I like that idea, that's cool, I saw a feature bike in BHS way back, a guy skinned his bodywork with 3mm leather, natrual flesh tone finish, then literally tattooed it, looked awesome!
just in time :)
I was thinking clear acrylic for the skin, but I like your idea better.
nice video again you the man to build me a cafe racer
enjoying the fabrication Del, Happy New Year to you both
Thanks Tony, Wishing you the same mate, and always good to hear from you.. keep in touch aye... D&Px
Great fabrication Delboy. It great seeing it grow.
Found out today I have a large Chest infection but always have time inbetween Coughing to watch the best Channel on UA-cam
Cheers Del & Penny
Thanks Gerry, always good to hear from you and really appreciate your constant kind support mate... we both wish you a speedy recovery, take care!
Love it
Del a great light weight idea, is wrap it in ceconite fabric heat it up till it's really tight around the frame, then put carbon fibre over it really light, plus ceconite makes it easy to do,
Thanks Kevin, Ceconite is amazing and would make an incredible finish, but I want the frame to actually show and not be covered... (a brilliant idea for a future project though!)... I have an idea, stick with it, we have a couple of supplemental videos up next and when we're back on it, we'll be making a start on the skin!
Das wird ein geiles Bike, Del.
Vielen Dank für Ihre freundlichen Worte, mein Freund.
Why do I keep thinking Silver Dream Racer..... Great Job buddy!!
grate video Dell .. could go with perspex for front ? maybe a git to shape tho ? just an idea
Tanned leather as fairing
totally agree you can't hide that frame which by the way is a wow factor
Thank you Tom, it's always great to hear from you, and really appreciate your comments... HNY!
It's got 70's Rickman fairing written all over it, might as well finish the look off and fibreglass it 👍
Coming along well, the shape of the fairing reminds me of the one on the Laverda Jota I bought in Oz in 82, I wonder if you could line it with something similar to what they used to do on the early aircraft, covering the material with "dope", ( I think that's what they used to call it), all the best both 👍
Thanks Geoff, Lots of options mate, and it's a lot of fun building this one.. Thanks as always for your constant support. D&Pxx
Hi Del, top job mate, top job👍👍😊
Thanks buddy, appreciate your support mate!
Looking good man!
Hello Matt, how wonderful to hear from you, Happy New Year Sir, we hope you're all well... thank you for your kind comments, I have to admit to being unashamedly proud of it, even if it did take 32hrs! And now it's done, I can dive deeper in to the world of Rat Rod, I've an equally daft plan for the skin!! And I think some more of this for the back end too... take care, and ride safe, keep in touch, all the very best, D&Px
@@Moonfleet41 Awesome man yeah I'm good - got an 8 month old son now so bikes don't get the love they deserve but I still get out and work on them when I can. Happy New Years!
What’s it gonna be what’s it gonna be (3 mths ago) nah no way... oh hang on... yeah that’s different... oh ok... oh yeah... oh hell yeah... shit yeah... oh that’s what he was going for! He was stringing us along the whole time!
Like it Del - I’m hanging to see the next one.
I'm not sure what the expense would be, but I'd bet they make the plastic that they skin airplanes with in a clear version. That would add almost zero weight, and keep your skeleton visible, And, it'd be flexible enough to create the shape you want and durable in the wind. The skeleton is awesome, though, and it will definitely give it a unique look having it visible. Well done, sir!
@Rick Simpson I've seen kit planes that are full size use a plastic sheeting to skin them. I'm not a plane builder, so I wasn't sure what it was called. Thanks for the additional info.
I like that, but I do think you're right, it would be a matter of price!... some have said carbon fibre, but this is Rat Rod so going to stick with hardcore stuff and step away from the space age materials!
Just settled in and saw you vid lol
Did you say crazy thinking ..... yes you are Crazy /Mad , but Dell we all are when we are out on the road , but l call it Freedom
Totally agree Brother!
Hi Dell,Have a look a Mike Patey making carbon panels on his carbon cub.The man is a genius in plane building.
Great work. I like that your using very basic tools ( I know a mug welder isn’t super basic but it kinda is) and bending by hand. I’m excited to see the finished product. Is it going to be raw aluminum? Painted or unpainted? Aloha from Maui🤙
Beautiful ! :-)
It would look cool just as it is,- unskinned.
Definitely keep the skeleton on show it’s a work of art👍
Thinking out loud, what about some sort of plexiglas or lexan? Maybe vacuum formed.
Sweet! You do magic with metal. I always use the adage, "measure twice cut once." I was wondering do you have a metal stretcher, I have a wood stretcher in my shop. (>: If not Spanner Monkey probably has a few in their catalog in case the preverbale screwup occurs. I would fiberglass it and leave the frame expose in the inside. On the openings for the sockets for the frame mount, maybe a reverse scoop facing towards the rear so you dont have a wind whistle as you approach warp speed. What color is this beast gonna be? Nice work my man.
And I was just asking myself, good Lord Del, how much does that weigh? Fears averted...😂
Was thinking that too.. dells a mind reader ..
@@cyberjack it seems like everyone can read my mind, I just thought it was my missus and the we girl, F%&K now Del, give me a break lol
Let go of what was , surrender to what is , have faith in what will be 👍🏻
How about clear epoxy as a skin? Challenging to set up the pour right, but not insurmountable and definitely unusual, and a great way of showing off the frame. Polishes up well too.
Excellent exoskeleton! So, it's either Irish linen & lots of strong dope, or leave it bare metal, Plasticote the frame in a nice baby blue & call the bike 'Petal' . . . (Thank you, thank you; I know, it's a gift, what can I do but share it? : ) x
Petal?? Awesome!
Could do black Perspex with the cage on the outside, would look weird, but also pretty cool
Hi! A coming along but wonder how much weight there will be? Keep up the great videos.
Dunno how practical this would be, but I'm just brainstorming.
Make a wooden form to fit on the inside of the exoskeleton, but with its outer profile following the contours of the outside of the exoskeleton (dubious spelling).
Then heat form clear or coloured 'Perspex' over the mould.
You would then have a light fairing, which still showed all your beautiful metalwork.
Hi Gary, I follow exactly that you're saing, very cool thinking, but I image wood former would be a six month projct for me all by itself!! ... I've a plan that mayt ake a little less than that!!
You could do a Mad Max Road Warrior type fairing and cover it with burlap or canvas. That way you keep the visual art work of the skeleton.
Stop having so much fun !
peas and loaf brother it's great to watch your process .
Evolution is the solution without dilution . 👍🏻☮❤
Said that right Brother, slowly making it happen! Have a great week!
Mmm... hyper or gs1200... either way.. very nice.🙂
fine wire mesh would be good, which could allow for some type of lighting effect from the inside .
Disco Fishnets! . . . welcome to the 20's man, we follow in your wake : )
HOld that thought my friend, you may be closer than you think!
Curvy swoopy is that a word? Exso skeleton sounds good and looks good in MY head
@moonfleet41 Nice work Del and I have to say because I am a geek of the first condition the first thougth that came to mine when you talked about skining from the inside was actually 3D printing panels which could clip onto the frame and even wrap around it. Not only would it allow the skelenton to be seen but also allow for easy maintence by popping a panel out when you need to. The finish can be made mirror smooth with acetone and if you want to you could spray over it anyway. I doubt you are such a 3D print officinado but I can promise you you will have a maker space somewhere close that could help out for sure. Just a thought...
Thanks mate, everyone loves 3D printing and it is very cool!... I have a plan for the skin, which will work really well, but I'm always going to keep that in minde for other projects... thanks mate!
Fantastic and i never expected anything else from you Dell,,,,BY the way Happy New year to you and Penny ,,,,,Hope you both have a FANTASTIC year,,,Stay healthy and safe,,,,,Kind regards,,,,,
Hey Colin, great to hear from you mate, and we both really appreciate your kind wishes, have a great 2020 yourself, wishing you many happy and safe miles this year!
clear lexan top coloured rest , don't know how easy it would be but i am sure you will find out
would it be possible to use fleece and fibreglass resin to make the headlight fairing?
See the Britten documentary from New Zealand. He did the same type of thin frame to start with.
Thank you man for your last message ,we are okay here in the Blue mountains, but is terrible for those beautiful good human been Australian who have lost everything , ,husband ,wife , childrens , home. terrible time for the nation ,and the implications after and in the future . with more then 500 million wild life decimated. From my house about 15 km two township houses have been destroy by the bushfire , yes anyways thank you for your videos it permit me to evade my thoughts cheers Robert
I have a serious case of workshop envy going on now!! Keep up the brilliant content :)
Thanks mate, it's taken me 30yrs to get here!
How heavy will the front fairing be? Oh you just answered me lol.
You want to show it off and be different go clear perspex or what race cars have on them very tough and durable and would look fantastic you could not easily screw cover on the bar work for easy removal plus get to the gym screws for frame its a win win in my book..
Clive greenall in South Africa said your channel is alot like mine. So i had to check out your channel lol. Great stuff on here brother. SUBBED !!! 👍 thanks! ARCO MN OUTLAW CUSTOMS
Hey buddy, great to hear from you, was pointed to you by Clive Greenall, took a very quick look at your latest video and really looking forward to reaching back in to your older videos and following the series forward... thank you for the sub and welcome aboard, hope you're well over there in the States, especially at this dramatic time, be safe and keep in touch, Del & Penny
great video. how about very thin copper sheet.
I love the frame. Even without any skin it looks amazing. I'd personally think about leaving it like a real life technical drawing. Impressed with how it's all come together without sitting and drawing and measuring. Super organic
Thank you my friend, work it out as you go along aye?!
Are you making a form to build your fairing around, or is that going to be part of the fairing?
Hi Dell & Penny.
That's a real work of art!
With the exoskeleton being mild steel, what are your thoughts for rust proofing it?
Cerokote?
Looking forward to the next episode
Regards from S Africa
Clive
Hey Clive, that's a cool idea, we're amazed at the amount of input from the viewers, we're so honoured that everyone is so engaged with it, thank you for your input Sir!
Exoskeleton will look great but...... What are you gonna use on top? Plexiglass or something? (FYI i love the fact that you heed the advice from your subscriber's)
Hi mate, you ask what I'll be using 'on top'... obviously an exoskeleton has nothing on top, it'll be skinned on the inside and I've a couple of option, just gonna work with what's the most convenient and what's cool!
@@Moonfleet41 all eyes and ears buddy
Exoskeleton would be good but those welds would have to be refined or ground completely smooth ,however I think if it had the weld showing it would look more ratrod like
Well it is a Rat Rod after all buddy!
