Cheers brother, I like that idea, that's cool, I saw a feature bike in BHS way back, a guy skinned his bodywork with 3mm leather, natrual flesh tone finish, then literally tattooed it, looked awesome!
I agree. I think if he watches the video he will see from our perspective. He could take it down to the second curved level for the actual fairing and use the top piece for a mold to form the windshield with.
I just commented on your other video yesterday and saw your reply to watch today's video. Now I totally get it haha! The center bar finally makes sense to me. It looks KILLER!
Thanks buddy, it's sometimes difficult as we know what we're doing, but we've not loaded the video yet, thanks for sticking with it, much appreciate your support mate!
That is one bad-ass frame! I agree, it would be ashame to cover it up. Your attention to details and symmetry is impressive!! Looking forward to the next step 👍
Hi Harold, wonderful to hear from you, and thank you for your kind words, I think no matter how raggedy something looks, if it's totally symmetrical and square, then you can live with it day to day... well I certainly can anyway!
Hi Dell, the framework looks fab but not sure how you will fare with a skin. This might be a little late but have you thought of using the old wire and felt pipe cleaners to help you form a shape, might be helpful for you in the future. I'm waiting with baited breath for the next episode of Hyabussa build. Have a great weekend, catch you later.
Thanks Andy, formulating a plan for the skin, something simple and effective, got a couple of supplemental videos inbetween, should be back on it in a week!
Thanks Danny, it was never going to look identical hanging on a Hayabusa as the bike's almost a foot wider which will always distort the lines, but am very honoured that you consider it a close copy mate!
I think when you come back to it you might see that the top curve and bar work is a little out of balance and too tall for the rest of the bike unless you are planning Dakar ;) Maybe a 1/2" strip along the first curve above the headlight to attach a low screen (or maybe no screen) will be better balanced. Definitely skin the outside and keep the smooth lines of the 'Busa, rat rod or not.
I love the frame. Even without any skin it looks amazing. I'd personally think about leaving it like a real life technical drawing. Impressed with how it's all come together without sitting and drawing and measuring. Super organic
I just want to say Del, what a beautiful piece of work as well as the absolute attention to details and your eye to symmetry 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 amazing mate. I have to admit, at the beginning of the last video I was a bit sceptical but you quickly made attention to the top central bar, and now we can see the stunning idea you had in that very wise grey mass they call brain lol. Once again, hat off to you sir.
Thank you my friend, I often have to bite my toungue to the critics, as so many like to pull the trigger when it's only half finished! Glad you're enjoying it, and thanks for your support.
Before you mentioned it I was thinking how cool an exoskeleton would look, as that frame is so impressive! I was expecting that frame to weigh as much as a bus though, haha :-) Love how this is coming along! Turning a barn find into a barnstormer!
Great fabrication Delboy. It great seeing it grow. Found out today I have a large Chest infection but always have time inbetween Coughing to watch the best Channel on UA-cam Cheers Del & Penny
Te felicito, quedo excelente y es buena idea que quede como exoesqueleto. Pienso que en láminas de aluminio quedaría fantástico! Saludos desde México...
Sweet! You do magic with metal. I always use the adage, "measure twice cut once." I was wondering do you have a metal stretcher, I have a wood stretcher in my shop. (>: If not Spanner Monkey probably has a few in their catalog in case the preverbale screwup occurs. I would fiberglass it and leave the frame expose in the inside. On the openings for the sockets for the frame mount, maybe a reverse scoop facing towards the rear so you dont have a wind whistle as you approach warp speed. What color is this beast gonna be? Nice work my man.
Coming along well, the shape of the fairing reminds me of the one on the Laverda Jota I bought in Oz in 82, I wonder if you could line it with something similar to what they used to do on the early aircraft, covering the material with "dope", ( I think that's what they used to call it), all the best both 👍
When you were talking at the start, whatever you were on can I have some. Loved the excitement of the anticipation of what you had to do.. its lookin good, what about making an internal plug and carbon fibre it. but looking good.
Del a great light weight idea, is wrap it in ceconite fabric heat it up till it's really tight around the frame, then put carbon fibre over it really light, plus ceconite makes it easy to do,
Thanks Kevin, Ceconite is amazing and would make an incredible finish, but I want the frame to actually show and not be covered... (a brilliant idea for a future project though!)... I have an idea, stick with it, we have a couple of supplemental videos up next and when we're back on it, we'll be making a start on the skin!
I like the idea of the top part being clear Perspex like a windscreen with the other parts wrapped in fiber glass but perhaps some seperate panels in the middle👍
Fantastic and i never expected anything else from you Dell,,,,BY the way Happy New year to you and Penny ,,,,,Hope you both have a FANTASTIC year,,,Stay healthy and safe,,,,,Kind regards,,,,,

Hello Matt, how wonderful to hear from you, Happy New Year Sir, we hope you're all well... thank you for your kind comments, I have to admit to being unashamedly proud of it, even if it did take 32hrs! And now it's done, I can dive deeper in to the world of Rat Rod, I've an equally daft plan for the skin!! And I think some more of this for the back end too... take care, and ride safe, keep in touch, all the very best, D&Px
@@Moonfleet41 Awesome man yeah I'm good - got an 8 month old son now so bikes don't get the love they deserve but I still get out and work on them when I can. Happy New Years!
I'm not sure what the expense would be, but I'd bet they make the plastic that they skin airplanes with in a clear version. That would add almost zero weight, and keep your skeleton visible, And, it'd be flexible enough to create the shape you want and durable in the wind. The skeleton is awesome, though, and it will definitely give it a unique look having it visible. Well done, sir!
@Rick Simpson I've seen kit planes that are full size use a plastic sheeting to skin them. I'm not a plane builder, so I wasn't sure what it was called. Thanks for the additional info.
I like that, but I do think you're right, it would be a matter of price!... some have said carbon fibre, but this is Rat Rod so going to stick with hardcore stuff and step away from the space age materials!

Symetrical oppositness. You mean mirrored! lol.
Chirality.
Just plain old "Symmetry".

Definitely keep the skeleton on show it’s a work of art👍
Good work but in my opinion (like that counts) the fairing is too high after todays work. I liked it better when it was lower.

Are you making a form to build your fairing around, or is that going to be part of the fairing?
Dunno how practical this would be, but I'm just brainstorming.
Make a wooden form to fit on the inside of the exoskeleton, but with its outer profile following the contours of the outside of the exoskeleton (dubious spelling).
Then heat form clear or coloured 'Perspex' over the mould.
You would then have a light fairing, which still showed all your beautiful metalwork.

@moonfleet41 Nice work Del and I have to say because I am a geek of the first condition the first thougth that came to mine when you talked about skining from the inside was actually 3D printing panels which could clip onto the frame and even wrap around it. Not only would it allow the skelenton to be seen but also allow for easy maintence by popping a panel out when you need to. The finish can be made mirror smooth with acetone and if you want to you could spray over it anyway. Could do black Perspex with the cage on the outside, would look weird, but also pretty cool
Did you say crazy thinking ..... yes you are Crazy /Mad , but Dell we all are when we are out on the road , but l call it Freedom
Totally agree Brother!
You could do a Mad Max Road Warrior type fairing and cover it with burlap or canvas. That way you keep the visual art work of the skeleton.
fine wire mesh would be good, which could allow for some type of lighting effect from the inside .
Disco Fishnets! . . . welcome to the 20's man, we follow in your wake : )

clear lexan top coloured rest , don't know how easy it would be but i am sure you will find out

Is this still a cafe racer Del?
How heavy will the front fairing be? Oh you just answered me lol.
