I also have to say, no need to dress the popper with treble hook kill, a single hook won’t hurt any viewers, plus we can keep showing us the rate. results, on a single popper hook, you probably missed few other bites while wrestling to unhook that gator ..

Nice Gator Blue! Caught dinosaur blues in NJ last week (see my IG posts). Changed out the back hooks on my SP minnows and pencil poppers to inline singles immediately afterwards.
Same problem with the plugs... i pulled out a new popper and and i gotta swap to single stinger hooks too. Pita taking out those treble hooks

Barbless hooks. Can't go past them for me. I've noticed no reduction in how frequently I land fish and I'm not breaking jaws with pliers to get them back.

How far are you able to cast this popper? I been surf fishing but wanting to reach further with my cast to that second sandbar. Also, I am curious about using an artificial and wonder how to target those bigger fish with a popper( for example) at that second/further sandbar. Thank you

how do you know when to fish topwater vs jerkbait or soft plastics for stripper/bluefish?
I’ve been fishing this area since I was like 6/7 so I just know based on the time of year and I’ve always done well here with topwater. But if I went to a beach I’ve never fished I would have experimented a little more to pattern the fish.
