I listened to I’m Glad My Mom Died because Jennette herself reads the audiobook. It was absolutely fascinating especially as someone who was right in that iCarly generation who saw all of this from the outside. What a gripping story, my mouth was open the entire time!
I read The Thursday Murder Club at the very end of last year and I think you'd LOVE it, Lucy! It's about a group of hilarious and tenacious seniors who try to solve cold cases in their spare time, but then end up in the middle of an actual murder mystery. It's so funny and comforting, but the mystery is exceptional and sooo satisfying as well. Highly recommend!!!
I'm currently reading Bunny, about halfway through, I picked it up solely because of your recommendation and wow, I both love it and have no clue what I am reading
Not me just adding Things We Do To Our Friends and The Cloisters to my neverending tbr... I love your book recommendations and I have just built my very first bookshelf which I'm so excited to organise and add to!
Loving all the book content lately! Just from your description The Things We Do To Our Friends really reminds me of the TV series Clique, also set in Edinburgh, also with a female protagonist at university level with a secret in her past, also her being lured into this dark, mysterious circle of female friends. Definitely going to give it a read just for that. 😊
I love your book videos. I watched all of your old ones, and because of you I read "Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine". This might be the best book I read... like ever. And I never would have chosen it by myself. So thank you! Don't stop doing this videos! 🥰
If you enjoyed Olivie Blakes's Atlas Six I would thoroughly recommend Masters of Death (I totally read it because of the blurb) - I love Olivie Blake, she was one of my fave authors last year.
What a lovely stack of books! I’ve just started reading Tomorrowx3 and I don’t think I’m emotionally ready! Something I did for the first time last year was at the end of each month I put £1 in a monzo pot for every book I read so I had a nice little pot of funds to then spend in the sales/January 😊
@@mandyjsmith Yeah! I accumulated a lot of books over lockdown and from birthdays etc so I’ve been getting through those and using my library more as well.
If you haven’t already read it, I highly recommend The Ninth House (and the sequel that just came out) Leigh Bardugo. It’s dark academia with magic and revolves around the secret societies at Yale, and the main character is mysteriously hired to oversee the societies’ rituals and to be a student there after she wakes up in the hospital after almost dying from a drug overdose. The sequel was a five star read for me and the first one was excellent as well!
Thank you so much for this video !! I have recently just got back into reading and these books are the type of books I would pick up I am definitely going to go book shopping soon and pick some of these up , thank you so much again for making this it has really made me want to go back into reading more thank you 🤍📚
If you want a book of people solving riddles in a cult following you should deffo try Ready Player One which I absolutely adore (bin the film though). I’m reading the skeleton key right now so thank you for the spoiler-less review 🤩
Yes! Ready Player One is possibly my favorite book of all time and any time I’ve lent my copy to someone, they’ve absolutely loved it as well. I didn’t even bother with the movie as it just didn’t look like it would hold up to the original.
The latest books I would recommend (both I read in January) are "The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches" which is a cute witchy story all about found family and "Tidesong" (which is a magical little graphic novel).
I love that we have such similar tastes in books - I loveeee the dark academia epidemic and I have added so many of your recs to my TBR it’s going to take me forever to get through them 😅
The Things We Do To Our Friends has SUCH a good cover… it’s one of those covers that has a lot for a book to live up to, if you know what I mean. Can’t wait for your thoughts. Lapvona is AMAZING. The feeling the cover gives you is just preparing/warming you up Lucy 🤣
How To Be A Grown Up is a non-fiction by Daisy Buchanan that genuinely made me cackle several times over but also felt like a warm hug from an older sister I never had. Think 'Everything I Know About Love' but BETTER in my opinion. Love her, so jealous you got to meet her!
Good morning 🌞 what a wonderful sunday chatty book video. I last read a nonfiction book "Buy yourself the f**king lillies" which was a really good memoir/selfhelp book. I tend to read one of those book in january.
25:55 Reading Ninth House and Frankenstein (lol - which I have never before, it’s wild). Had to pause so many times to add books to my goodreads. Love it. Also the pillow behind you is amazing ❤
I've been meaning to pick up Atlas Six myself but kind of lost track of it... thank you for reminding me! Excited to hear how you get on with it. Definitely a more dark and spooky selection this time around. Weirdly enough for some reason the last book reminded me of Midnight in Everwood too... I dunno why since they're not at all similar in any way.... maybe just the "ooo shiney cover" got me thinking and reminding me of books I need to hunt down.
I highly recommend Trevor Noah's Born a Crime autobiography. Also, it isn't dark academia, but A Thousand Splendid Suns by Housseni is a phenomenal book of female friendship and I think you'd enjoy it.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow was my favorite book of last year! I'm currently reading November 9 by Colleen Hoover, as well as As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh.
I just got a pretty big book haul today. 20 books omg Coles was having a major sale. 3,4,5 dollar books. I also when to two thrift stores, I went a bit crazy today.
Have you read Anatomy a Love Story by Dana Schwartz? It’s about a girl in Edinburgh in the 1800s that wants to be a surgeon. It’s dark, gothic, has a bit of magic to it.. I loved it & the sequel is coming in a couple months. Thanks for all the great book recommendations! ❤
As always, I walk away from this video with several books added to my "want to read" list (both because of the video AND the comment section). I am currently reading Cloud Atlas, which has been on my physical TBR for at least two years, and listening to the audiobook of Bad Gays, which is quite a fun time.
I think you should just turn your channel in to 100% book content Lucy 😂 - I get so excited when I see one of your book videos pop up. I have just finished Last one at the party by Bethany Clift and think you would really like it.
This year it was only those hardbacks that were stickered...previously it has been ALL hardbacks... was disappointed this year because I was hoping to purchase a couple of hardback collection books.
What do you do with all your books? Surely you could open a library by now? 🤣 😂 I read 'the girl on the train' at the weekend. In less than 24 hrs. Haven't done that in a while- it was really good!
The Skeleton Key def sounds like it was inspired by the real-life Masquerade by Kit Williams en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masquerade_(book). I remember being obsessed with this idea when I was a child, even though the golden hare had already been found!

Quickly becoming my favourite booktuber with all this content recently 👀😅
Jeanette’s book was one of the best things I’ve ever read. It was so impactful, and heart breaking.

I LOVED the things we do to our friends, I go to the uni of Edinburgh so the vibes were immaculate!!
Reading Circe, loved Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow

I am so keen for another book video if you have one up your sleeve 😭
Literally watch this with my wish list open whist I add all your fantastic recommendations thank you 🙏🏼

I love with the recent book content 📚❤️

Oh what a good idea. I'm going to start doing that. I've re joined the library but there's nothing better than owning books you've enjoyed reading.

I just finished that and LOVED it! I haven't gotten into Dark Academia books so far but the magical elements made it a great read.
Yessss excellent recommendation!
A u😮 Dr😢😮 10:39 ifiuI
Yes! I second this!
I actually really love your hair in this video! Beautiful ❤
Daisy has a podcast called ‘You’re Booked’ where she interviews authors while they look at their bookshelves. It’s wonderful! X

A few of these are on my TBR as well! I always sit with goodreads open for these videos just in case I need to add more to the tbr
The Skeleton Key cover vibes with your cushion perfectly

@@jarsofc555 ohhh, good to know. Adding it to my list right now! Thank you!
Goodmorning😍 lovely video as always :)
Just read and loved the newest installment of the Wayward Children’s series from Seanan McGuire, highly recommend!
If you like magical worlds and fantasy I always recommend Poison Study by Maria V Snyder !

The Skeleton Key is definitely going on my tbr! P.s. thanks for linking the awesome cushion! 😍
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on all of these! 💕 I also read I’m Glad My Mom Died at the start of the year and boy was it a doozie 🥲
I really want to read Jennette McCurdy’s book! I’ve only heard good things
I found this video piercing and vixen-ish!
Night crawling is amazing!
Ah, more books to add to my list ☺️ Currently half way through Miss Benson’s Beetle and loving it, thank you xx
I’ve just finished spare last week by Prince Harry and it was so good. Completely worth the read.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow was my favorite book of last year! I'm currently reading November 9 by Colleen Hoover, as well as As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh.

I loved Nightcrawling and Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow - hope you enjoy them too! Also, I'm Glad My Mom Died made it to my top 10 of 2022 😍

Love all this book content although its damaging my bank balance! Also where is the gorgeous cushion from behind you? 😍

So many good suggestions! Why is there not enough time in life to read everything?! ☺️ I'm currently reading The Birdcage. Enjoying it so far
my year of rest and relaxation was the worst book I've ever read... hopefully you have a better time with lapvona
I really want to read Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, but it is sold out everywhere I could get it :/ I guess it really is incredibly popular :D
I'm reading Richard Osmans book 'the Thursday murder club' at the minute - have you given that series a go? I am really enjoying it so far !
I think you should just turn your channel in to 100% book content Lucy 😂 - I get so excited when I see one of your book videos pop up. I have just finished Last one at the party by Bethany Clift and think you would really like it.
I’m so sad I resisted the sale 😂 some great picks!
Always trust your reviews! Bye money 😅
This year it was only those hardbacks that were stickered...previously it has been ALL hardbacks... was disappointed this year because I was hoping to purchase a couple of hardback collection books.
I’ve read daisy buchanan insatiable and it really surprised me. I enjoyed it and there are so many twists in it 😊
What do you do with all your books? Surely you could open a library by now? 🤣 😂
I read 'the girl on the train' at the weekend. In less than 24 hrs. Haven't done that in a while- it was really good!
Ha what you said about someone talking about a book and it scratching your brain is how I feel when you make book videos
Every book video 💸💸💸💸💸 😂
The Skeleton Key def sounds like it was inspired by the real-life Masquerade by Kit Williams en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masquerade_(book). I remember being obsessed with this idea when I was a child, even though the golden hare had already been found!
Waterstones prices differ in their stores to their website, but they price match to website at the till. Just in case anyones interested.
Cloisters is indeed a terrible word. It always reminds me of oysters
Love The God Father bit. 😂
Reading a taste of poison … it’s awesome
Insatiable by Daisy Buchanan is a brilliant book - it is however absolute filth so prepare yourself!
Halfway through Lapvona, it’s very freaky and dark, no one is likeable but you get immersed in these disturbing f***ed-up characters
You do realize that you can't be considered a full-fledged book lover before you read the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and
Brandon Sanderson?;)
I didn’t like Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. Really was overhyped.
