she’s my favorite teacher on youtube. she’s got such a great way of keeping me at ease and paying attention. i took a lot away from this and i feel like it’s really giving me direction and goals to work towards.
I also noticed she doesn't say "easy" when talking about basics you need to learn. It's small but a nice gesture because some of this basic stuff can be hard for real beginners.
You can play major or the minor of power chords .power 5ths heavy metal. Say in key of E. CAN PLAY MINOR AND MAJOR KEY OF E. Because power chords are not major or minor. A big help also is play licks mix a few licks together and chase chords. Play the notes in each chord. Lilke full barr G play them notes in licks over g.. When the progression changes like say next is A play the notes in that chord of A. Just use licks in them chord notes. Called chord chasing. Works great as as long as the changes arent too fast. But i preffer it over playing scales. Scales sound planned with no emotions or feelings.
Hi Ayla. I just wanted to say I really love your videos. I am a beginner, 3 years now. I must admit I have not been very enthused about practicing scales. My idea has been to learn a song and eventually I will know the scales. Lately I have been learning "No More Tears". The solo is in 3 parts; a pre-solo and the main solo which is in two distinct parts. The pre-solo and the last part of the main solo were easy to learn as they followed a pattern. The first part of the main solo gave me a lot of trouble as I could not perceive a pattern. Then I watched this video and realized that part of the solo was in D minor pentatonic. Once I realized that, then I could remember how the solo went, and even adlib a little as long as I stayed in that scale.
Ayla, you are so much wiser and thoughtful beyond your age! You have a unique gift in your ability to teach and communicate. Thank you so much for sharing your true appreciation and love of music. Stay well and continue to enjoy your passion!
I stopped having formal electric guitar lessons back in 1996 and had just got to learning the A minor pentatonic scale and trying to improvise over a 12 bar blues progression. I wasn't very good at improv. Since youtube I have just learnt songs I like by wrote from many various amazing online guitar teachers. I wish I could have learnt to be more creative in my playing and I can now see how the standard scale shapes can help big time. Better late than never- these 4 tips will get me deeper into my guitar journey and unlock my creativity. One can only hope...☮💙🎸🎶
Point four is actually the most important point for me as a guitar teacher right now. Finding songs for all kinds of things I want to teach. Chords, scales, strumming patterns, what have you. Everything should be connected to actual music imo. But that is a lot of work. Also, Ayla, thanks for the tipp of saying the degrees out loud while playing a scale. That feels like a very valuable thing!
Ayla..i just have to say. For the first time since watching millions of videos on youtube over so many years, I've come across someone with so much sincerity and conviction that made me glued to your video through the whole time. Right from beginning till the end I just couldn't take my eyes and ears off of what you had to say and share. As a guitar player who's being playing music for over 25 years, i must say that you have simplified the guitar playing so much so that the beginners will remember you for the rest of thier lives after watching and learning from you. Thank you for sharing. P.S your a beautiful girl and your smile just made my day❤️
Start with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Write it out . Play it and name the notes. Write a C scale. Play it and name the notes. Move up the neck . Play your scale and song in a different position. Once you learn it,..write out Mary Had a Little Lamb. Learn it. Write a C scale on staff paper in a random order. Play it and name the notes. This will force you to look at the page and not the neck or pick or string. Write out chords and arpeggios. Play them and name the notes. At first its difficult but we learn it. And we remember it. Then do it in key of G and F,..D and Bb,..ect.
Star Spangled Banner for me by ear, "Hendrix" style.. I'm still a novice & can't read a single note. Listen to what sounds right, cool & blends well. Still don't know theory but know a couple scales, power chords, hybrid chords, bends, pinch hormonics...
Every other instrument is a requirement to learn the notes. Guitar should be no different. Tabs are okay... especially when they are accurate and for learning complex things quickly But as far as music theory and becoming a real guitar player...you're gonna want to learn the note names. It will do wonders for you when it all starts clicking and you're starting to understand intervals and inversions and all that goodness. Learn em. There is some really clever tricks that exist in video format to help. It might seem daunting at first, but it's all patterns and gets easier the further you go.
@@sergedenovo2389 staff paper is a sheet of paper with lines so you can write out your own music. we used to have to buy it but now you can print off of computer. hope that helps !
I’ve been playing by ear for 30+ years, I’m just now studying my fretboard and introducing theory to myself. As I’ve no doubt plateaued. This video has been unbelievably presented. Learning the 3rds,5ths intervals etc, and how they’re presented is so appreciated. More!
Ayla is awesome! I have finally found a channel with a mellow teacher that KNOWS what they need to teach! A real "down-to-earth" person! Thanks, Ayla! 😀
She's spot on. To these four I'd add learning triads. You can start by learning them on the three high strings using the C major triad - 1, 3, 5. * I took a music theory class in college. Because I couldn't play the piano, I did my homework by the rules. I could write music, but couldn't hear it. 45 years later, after playing guitar and banjo, I learned triads. This opened up a whole new world for me, by connecting the theory with the guitar. Using Ayla's method you'll learn the theory gradually, but you'll hear it on your own instrument. Way better than taking a disembodied course. Great video, great advice. Thanks, Ayla.
I just love how she anticipates questions that beginners have concerning different skills and takes the time to explain “in plain words” what’s needed. So articulate and incredibly helpful to me. Thank you for your work! I learned something today that no one has ever taught me about 3rds, 5ths, etc., intervals. Every other “teacher” just assumes you know already.
Unbeleivable in the few videos I’ve watched here how intelligently simplified and practical these were ! I’ve been playing for 30yrs and was just exploring how most videos are confusing for beginners and almost a black hole of useless complexity ! These are the best explanatory videos i’ve seen !
Hi Ayla: I just wanted you to know that I really enjoy your lessons and I get something new from them every time I see you in action. I am 77 years old and have always wanted to play. Maybe this is the time and watching you makes it seem so possible. I really love watching you playing Carlos Santana and others so beautifully. You are a total inspiration for me. Thank you so much and Merry Christmas. Bill Goodyear
as a drummer trying to learn other instruments and feeling very frustrated, I am SO thankful for this channel. She is an amazing guitar player and an even better teacher
Ayla, I have been playing and performing for 57 years. I started teaching at age 19. You are the best of all the online instructors. What you teach is exactly the way I learned. I learned from other players I liked and I used their songs as my practice regimen. The other thing I learned from someone (I cannot remember who) is interval skipping. It made the Minor Pentatonic much more interesting. I would go from the 1 to the 5 or from the 4 to the 7, etc. I also learned that playing vibrato added emotion to the most simple patterns. I then learned that I could bend from the dominant 7th to the Root. For example in Ami Pentatonic, fret 8 (G on 2nd string) and a full bend to A (the same as fretting to 10 on the 2nd string). I realize you know this. What I intend to express is learning how to bend in the normal Minor Pentatonic took my playing to the next level. In other words, interval skipping and bending within the Minor Pentatonic took my playing from boring to interesting.
I LOVE your lessons. It's like having a friend show you the ropes in your living room..no talking down, nothing too pedantic..sharing wisdom learned from mistakes. I'm trying to learn guitar as an an old geezer. Had piano lessons as a kid, but it was straight classical...What had inspired me to want to learn was hearing my dad bash out 'In the Mood' on our old piano, making the whole house vibrate! I almost got bored out of music... hardly learned anything by ear ( learned more on harmonica that way..). Big 👍 Please keep doing what you're doing! 🙏🌞 PS. Love the green guitar! I suppose many of us have a favourite colour! Lol
I really enjoy listening to the soft spoken down-to-earth way that you present your knowledge... No pretense, just sincere and simple helps and style that gives the beginner hope, that perhaps one day, they will be able to succeed in their attempt to master skills that at first seemed to be unreachable. I have watched many teachers as they try to convey their methods but so far, you have impressed me the most. Thank you!
I'm a 60 y.o. player. I just tink every now and then these days. But I learned exactly the way you said. Learning songs to start. I learned theory later. And I realized I had already absorbed a lot from singing and playing the songs I was fond of. Spot on young player...music is mostly a folk tradition...if done right!
I really appreciate your very laid back approach to teaching guitar. Also how you are able to breakdown complicated and/or confusing musical concepts and make them much easier to understand. Thank you and keep up the good work!!
I started playing the guitar a year a ago and I found many different videos that have help me in my journey. One thing that was a major eye opener for me was seeing bar chord scales and how they relate to the pentatonic scales that were shown here. If you are a beginner like me, don’t shy away from bar scales just because they are hard to play - just keep trying. I still struggle moving in and out of bar chords but it is amazing to see how they relate to the whole fret board. Another thing that has help me was to use the pentatonic shape to find the key of a song. I figured out the basic chords to Daniel ( by Elton John) by just listening to the song and and moving the pentatonic shape up and down the scale. So I want thank Guitareo and many other talented guitar players for sharing their expertise on the internet - there is so much to learn!
I've been playing for over 10 years and am technically beyond these scales, but I never had the theory background. That interval exercise is a paradigm shift for me lol
Ayla, thank you so much! I am a 69 year old beginning guitar player, and this is one of the best tutorials I have watched! One request: could you please make a tutorial that goes into more detail regarding vibrato? I still have trouble with that, and I agree with you about its importance. Thanks again! I have subscribed to your channel.
Ayla I love the fact that you don't have any "jump cuts" in your video. When you make an edit you cut to a close up or back to a wide shot. Just like the pros.
I'm 66. I've been "messing around" with guitar off and on since I was 14. Mostly acoustic. I know the chords to popular songs from my teens well enough for sing alongs. But never learned to really "play" and improvise. I took personal lessons for about a year, but ahand operation stopped that. I've been going through the internet trying to find a teacher that I connected with. You are amazing at communicating information in a supportive and encouraging manner. I am subscribing and if you have more lessons or patreon or anything like that, I'm in. The highest compliment I can give is to say I would send my grandkids to you for lessons if you were near me. And I would. 🎸💗

I'm two weeks into Justin Guitar's Beginner's course. I watched this video a few days ago and started practicing the Minor Pentatonic scale. Well, tonight I tried improving over a backing track. It was horrible. Every other note I either strummed the incorrect string or had a finger in the wrong place. HOWEVER, it was an amazing feeling! I've tried picking up the guitar 4-5 times over the years with the goal of playing the Blues. It wasn't until I watched this video, that I truly thought I could do it one day. After tonight, I KNOW I CAN!
Been playing guitar for over 20 years and never got into much theory and pretty much stuck to minor pentatonic for soloing. This video made learning intervals via the major scale super easy. Great video and great teacher.
I started learning parts of songs and that helped me later. You will get better if you practice, so stay inspired. If you like rock take some classical lessons. And if you like classical take some rock. Don’t be afraid to be well rounded. It doesn’t hurt to find a fabulous teacher like Ayla. Her point about intervals is huge. I used to play too fast. It’s better to play slow, especially when beginning. Try not to be overwhelmed by all the information out there. Relax and have fun. It’s tough being a beginner but hang in there.
This is magnificent advice. Top tip I wish. From the very first scales you practice : sing(copy) the notes you play. Pick ANY letter in the alphabet to start on and sing (try) eg LMNOPQRS one octave. Go slow....coz you will be playing steady anyway. Sing loud and proud. DO NOT be worried about hitting the note exactly....that ABSOLUTELY will come with time. No more time than it takes your fingers to comply with your will. As you improve coordination and your voice tuning improves ( it WILL !! ).... Introduce proper WORDS. YES : a few lyrics that YOU have made up. Great channel. Thank you lots. 😊♥️
I've been playing for many years, and I wish I’d had this knowledge you have shared way back then! I’m totally self taught, and it took me years to learn these things.. Excellent videos. And Jimi Hendrix was also a great influence on me too!
Thank you, Ayla. The Guitareo has taught me from my very beginning of guitar and I found that about the music theory, Guitareo is the best. And I also like Singeo, too. Thank you all the teammates and crew of Guitareo.
Ive been a beginner now for a couple of years. Ive learned bits and pieces here and there, scales, songs etc. Watched a few different tutors on here and done ok with them. However, I have to say this young lady has absolutely nailed it for me with this video! She has such a chilled, calm, friendly manner and I just get it! When she explains things in her clear, concise way, it just connects with me. Absolutely my go to girl for guitar stuff on youtube! She really is fantasitc!

Such a kind and wonderful young lady. The way you teach is amazing. Very clear, informative, and you give great advice that’s actually very useful. I love learning through your videos, you’re the BEST teacher 🥰
I have owned a guitar for probably 45 years, but never had a teacher, but you make learning easy. I always thought a person needed to go to a top school for the arts to truely learn music, but you either have music in you, or you don't. The first time I ever had the chance to just jam out on a drum set; by the end of the day, I was playing with such speed and accuracy, that I astonished myself, and the two guys who were there playing guitars along with my drumming. They compared my drumming to the drummer for the band tool, but I don't have the energy to play drums anymore. The only drum lessons I had ever taken; were in the 6th grade, but I never forgot the basics I learned then, and I have always been able to identify my favorite genre of music, classic 1970's rock, by only hearing the first two or three notes. Like I said, "You either have the music in you, or you don't". The guitar has been a problem for me; because I have short fingers, and arthritis from working hard construction work, starting at the age of sixteen. I started doing Mason work, and with my short skinny fingers and body, (I weighed 145 lbs. soaking wet). I sometimes had to carry one 16" cinder block in each hand for eight to ten hours a day. I now have severe arthritis at 62 years old. That has not stopped me from continuing to learn to play a skinny necked guitar. Thank you for making it easy after 45 years. Your gentle spirit, and genuinely joyful smile, just help me with the whole learning process. Thank you for the shortcuts. I have improved tenfold.
I've seen many teachers on line trying to teach basics and can honestly say this one is absolutely the best by far...her style is simple yet comprehensive at the same time...many new players will enjoy what they're playing much sooner thanks to these lessons...keep posting more lessons please! PS: you are beautiful!
I wish I had of known that seriously. I played in bands when I was young and I used to copy the chords and leads to all the songs but I was always clueless on my own!! Now at 65 years of age I thank you so much for making it easy and clear. Not many people are like you that will do this!! Most like to hide it as a secret they see you struggle but won’t show you what you just showed me!! It brought tears to my eyes to know the unlocked secret!! Thank you again!!
Oh my gosh girl T H A N K Y O U for making this so easy to comprehend! I've been playing rhythm for over a decade and have always been intimidated by the idea of playing solos. of all the people who've tried to teach me no one has come close to making it this accessible. hands down the best teacher I've ever watched.

The perfect guitar for the month of Saint Patrick's Day! Why does it seem that these "kids" are often the best teachers? Ayla is a great talent as a player and as a teacher as well. Those two abilities do not always seem to go together with everyone who attempts to do both.
I practiced the pentatonic daily for like 10 minutes a day for 5-6 days straight and it straight up clicked and made my playing way better. So sick. Thanks a ton!
@@natinaeltalks64.5k8 Honestly, that's such a good point! But it's important to find what inspires you to keep on playing guitar so you can enjoy it every step of the way.
Great foundational stuff Ayla. Like you, I stumbled upon these very useful steps along the way without a guitar teacher really pointing them out. I learned the minor pent by simply listening to and attempting to cover BB King. Also his iconic vibrato that I never really mastered. When teaching students I do attempt to show them some "vocabulary" which might be a scale, chord shapes, or rhythmic style and have them learn a song that applies these skills. When practicing at home I encourage them to break it into three sections. 1. Warm up on a few familiar scales and chord progressions to get that muscle memory to kick in and relax a bit. 2. Spend some time learning a song, solo, or musical phrase that is new, and a bit above their current skill level. Start very slow, use a metronome, and really lock-in the movements before adding speed. Once you can play it well, ramp up the tempo and see how things progress. 3. Finally, always spend some time just playing for joy. Play a song you know well, take a little freeform soloing, or put on a jam track and lock in with the band. Let your musical voice shine a bit and have fun with it. Cheers!

My dad said the other day “Jimmy Hendrix didn’t just pick it up one day and start playing. He started from the bottom we all do”
What kind of asshole does that seriously?
I also noticed she doesn't say "easy" when talking about basics you need to learn. It's small but a nice gesture because some of this basic stuff can be hard for real beginners.
Very nice person. Easy to understand. And i love her guitar. Im irish... Nice.
Everything is beginning to make much more sense since I’ve started watching your videos. I cannot wait to implement this all! Thank you so much 🫶🏼
She is the real deal. A stunning talent that will only get better and better. Wonderful teacher too.
Wholeheartedly agree.. Nailed it
I love Ayla. I found her in 2018 and have no regrets. She inspired me.
I really enjoyed the way she explains everything, she has a great personality
Ayla..i just have to say. For the first time since watching millions of videos on youtube over so many years, I've come across someone with so much sincerity and conviction that made me glued to your video through the whole time. Right from beginning till the end I just couldn't take my eyes and ears off of what you had to say and share. As a guitar player who's being playing music for over 25 years, i must say that you have simplified the guitar playing so much so that the beginners will remember you for the rest of thier lives after watching and learning from you.
Thank you for sharing.
P.S your a beautiful girl and your smile just made my day❤️
My guitar teacher made me name my notes outloud when playing sheet music.
That really helped me learn theory.
That's a great way to learn!
Tabs are okay... especially when they are accurate and for learning complex things quickly
But as far as music theory and becoming a real guitar player...you're gonna want to learn the note names.
More!
A fabulous video. I'm a complete beginner and it's just what I was looking for. Extremely clear and explanatory.
I've played the guitar for over half my life now and this video was still super useful to me. Really glad I found this channel!
*
I took a music theory class in college.
I keep coming back to this video and it keeps making more and more sense as I learn guitar. Brava, Ayla! Thanks for teaching us.
Ayla is SUCH a GREAT teacher! She explains things soooo clearly!!!
Big 👍
Please keep doing what you're doing! 🙏🌞
PS.
Thank you!
She is superb. She's the best teacher I've seen
A natural educator. Wise and lovely.
Agree! She has a gift... actually three... or more...
I think your authenticity is compelling. Gonna add these 4 skills in my training. Thanks 🙂
Ayla is an excellent source 👏 of teaching playing guitar 🎸 👌 great 👍 job Ayla ! !
Love the way you teach. First time in 3 years i think i am starting to understand my guitar and love it even more. ❤
I have been a guitarist for many years and always trying to learn new things.Ayla is one of my favorite teachers on the internet I love her calm style of teaching.. Thank you so much!
Super helpful. About the most helpful beginner tips I've found that I'm not already doing. What a unique perspective/ideas. Thank you, will be subscribing 🙌
So glad you found this helpful 😊
Four a young woman you know a lot that took me years to understand!135 is cord 145 is Grove &236 miner 7th demenisht, pentatonic with blues notes that's a layover of a major scale! I will still watch after Cancer you would forget so much! Good clean tones like a tube screamer with a little delay😎🎸🎶👍🇱🇷
Thank you for giving me hope to someday master this instrument, absolutely love your way of teaching and your generous tips and advice.
In 14 minutes she teached what a lot of guitar teachers can't explain even in months!! Congrats for such a nice instructional vid!
As a beginner, I appreciate your words
Great video/advice! Love the quote "your favorite guitarist were once beginners" 🙏
She really is fantasitc!
i've been a (female) guitar player for a while now, and i've watched many many video lessons, which where always held by men. when i see you, i realize what i was missing all the time. it's so refreshing to see another woman on the guitar, it motivates me much much more to become better and practice more. thank you so much :-)
Check out yvett young from covet
Check out Helen Ibe, she's really good...

Such a kind and wonderful young lady. The way you teach is amazing. Very clear, informative, and you give great advice that’s actually very useful. I love learning through your videos, you’re the BEST teacher 🥰
The hardest thing for me personally was figuring out WHAT to practice and HOW to properly practice it.
And what you did
For sure. Did u stick with it?
Don't ever stop teaching you have a very special gift which not many people have I have been playing for years and this was so insightful thank you.
My discovery of the week : Ayla's golden teaching voice
I have owned a guitar for probably 45 years, but never had a teacher, but
you make learning easy.
I started doing Mason work, and with my short skinny fingers and body,
(I weighed 145 lbs. soaking wet).
I must say... you tube us full of so many guitar experts but they don't know how to teach like you. I'm playing since twenty year but you taught me a great lesson. You may not be a great guitarist but yoy a great guitar teacher . Thank you so much 🙏.
Me:
**already playing guitar for 9 years**
Also me seeing the title:
_Wow, interesting_
Haha same. 11 years here and I just came for the sick Duo-Sonic
I don't know how Anyone can dislike this video.. she seem so sweet and humble ! Great video
Hello from a 66 year old beginner, I just got my first electric guitar and never thought I would hold any guitar in my hands! But here we go I started and I like to say thank you for you very friendly and helpful tips, I shall try it out tonight, but I just wish my fingers were as flexible as yours ! Many thanks again
I really found my teacher. I've been for weeks watching several videos from other sources and her teachings are very easy to grasp and to advance quickly. Thank you.
I have been playing for almost 8 years, and the thing I regret the most not starting practicing from the beginning is ear training .
How do I practice ear training, I actually got down the beginning riff of breaking the law from it but that was too easy
Hi friends good scale ilove you veary nice scale
Yeah almost a lost art, so important
I've been playing guitar since 89 and I didn't get around to doing that until 99. I always played with people showing me, tablature, or sheet music, which is harder than tab but fun
@@user-ne6nz2lb6w I learned by just learning to tune my guitar by ear, it helps a lot. And playing with different tunings. Of
Best guitar 🎸 teacher I ever came across on UA-cam. Plus a great personality....
im still blown away by minor pentatonic shape playng with a major chord video....
Thank you so much! I just started learning guitar about a year ago and have watched hundreds of teaching videos and can truly say you are the best !!
You Rock !! 😊
You are an inspiration!......Thank you!
Truly a blessing to find your channel. I'm 55 and just picked up a guitar 2 days ago. Your lesson and tips, I feel will give me a head start.
The perfect guitar for the month of Saint Patrick's Day! Why does it seem that these "kids" are often the best teachers? Ayla is a great talent as a player and as a teacher as well. Those two abilities do not always seem to go together with everyone who attempts to do both.
What a delight she is. A joy to watch. Kudos too to whomever the producers are
If more than this bright brilliant star herself.
Fantastic.
I practiced the pentatonic daily for like 10 minutes a day for 5-6 days straight and it straight up clicked and made my playing way better. So sick. Thanks a ton!
You are an awesome teacher, i have been trying to play and often discouraged from the books, you solved all of my guitar playing problems. Thank you!
What do you wish YOU knew when you first started learning guitar?
How much time its take
How addicting it can be......in a very good way!.....:)
Literally what she just covered so eloquently!
Don't compare yourself to your favourite guitarists, measure yourself by how far you have progressed.
@@natinaeltalks64.5k8 Honestly, that's such a good point! But it's important to find what inspires you to keep on playing guitar so you can enjoy it every step of the way.
She is one of the most real genuine and down-to-earth people that I've ever seen. I believe her heart and soul is pure we need more people like her
truly what a gentle beautiful special young women, god bless you or trying so hard to help all us mere mortals
Cheers!
Ayla is fast becoming my favourite youtuber. It's a real pleasure watching her impressive attitude and demeanour on camera. She seems like a lovely person, but she is very definitely a wonderful guitar and music teacher!
I just love the way her nose moves when she speaks...so beautiful and talented!
Sabrina , lol
What a talented teacher you are!!! Real pleasure to listen…
