I can appreciate people raising awareness to help stop the use of illicit drugs. But having multiple painful chronic illnesses, opioid medications allowed me to function. Now that the media and celebrities can’t seem to separate the war on illicit drug use and the compliant patients like myself, we are often treated as if we are junkies! My meds have been decreased bc some guy that knows nothing about medicine has decided to pass a law limiting a drs ability to treat his patients. I am all for advocacy to treat your illness with MMJ but it’s not available in my state and likely never will be. Please tell the whole story!

Doctors are no longer prescribing? When did this happen? It's such a double-edged sword in society right now. I think even if they reduce prescriptions, a junkie will find more sinister drugs to use like heroin or phentynol, unfortunately. I don't think it will curtail anything, they'll find different means, ways, drugs meanwhile those in pain will suffer
I totally agree - the false narrative that our governments, TV shows, movies, press and celebrities are pushing, are pushing chronic pain/illness patients to the brink of suicide, depression and addiction. The actuality of a chronic pain patient getting addicted to legally prescribed pain medication used correctly used, is less than 0.01% and what they are doing is nothing less than medical malpractice - First Do No Harm.....
I'm glad Andy had Chelsea on. I miss her Netflix series. She inspired me to be more active politically. I have always voted but Chelsea really brought awareness to real issues that should concern us and had great guests on to explain what's happening. I miss her political voice! She's well read and informed.
The greatest motivator of the opioid crisis is due to the medical community not spending the proper time and energy diagnosing patients. Just because a patient complains about physical pain doesn't and shouldn't immediately be treated with pain meds. As mental health becomes more and more awareness doctors need to consider if an individual is actually feeling pain because they are physically unwell or if it is, in fact, a consideration of mental health. Any number of mental health concerns are felt like a compromise of their physical health. Depression often leaves individuals tired and run down and ultimately the whole body can ache. That shouldn't mean doctors immediately prescribe pain meds. If a patient is mentally unwell but they are prescribed physical pain meds its virtually guaranteed they will find the reaction to be one that allows them to zone out, exactly what they feel they need and in the long run to become hooked and essentially an addict. The medical community needs to become more aware of how to recognize and understand mental health. And doctors also need to take the time to thoroughly diagnose patients so they know for sure if a patient is experienced physical pain or mental pain and then treat it properly. Too often it's far easier and faster to prescribe pills and it is that lack of interest and motivation of "getting them in and out" that happens that shouldn't.
Even the drug tzar recognized that people with chronic pain need opioids. He changed the rules accordingly. Melissa doesn’t suffer from it obviously. Stay in your lane.

And MMJ doesn't work for everyone. And drug addicts don't get their drugs from doctors - they get them from the street.
